UK vs. KU in Big 12/SEC Challenge this Year

Last year we were 38-1 and with all the whining, you'd a thought that was reversed. What's it gonna be like if we lose 3-4 of those non conference games?
4 would be bad. That would mean we lost at home to UofL, and then one of UCLA, Arizona St., or Ohio State.

Very excited for the cats to play at Allen. And if I learned anything from last year is that regular season losses mean nothing. All that matters is winning 6 straight in the tourney.

It's going to be brutal in non conference play. UK really needs to take care of business with the teams they are clearly better than which is Ohio state, Arizona state, South Florida, UCLA, and Louisville. UK is slightly better than Duke and Kansas but I wouldn't be surprised to see two losses out of that and one other loss somewhere in December. As of right now I think we are looking at 9 to 11 non conference wins. That isn't a bad amount of wins given the non con strength of schedule.

So is this game going to be the standard 40 minute college game or are we going to play until Bill says he's had enough time?

Maybe a 45 or 50 Minute game?

Man, people will cry about anything. It will be nice to get a chance to knock off Kansas at Kansas. If healthy, both teams have a great chance to be Top 5 at the time. The whole country will be watching.

Honestly, I wonder why some of you even follow the sport. What kind of games do you want?

Cal clearly said yes to this because we're getting Murray

yes I'm sure of it

Man all them teams are gonna try an open a can-o-whoopass on us, revenge or cause they think we're not as dominant as last year, eat your wheaties boys and put your crash helmets on and be ready to play. Go Big Blue

The question is, can we ever beat Duke? We blow every opportunity to play them when we have elite teams (2010, 2015). They'll beat us next year, again.

The game will be another classic. Both teams will be preseason top 5, and if Lee can score in this one UKl will win.

If duke is going to beat Kentucky they will have to hit shots.

All things being equal, I'd really, really feel better having Swanigan or Murray commit in the next two weeks. Those three teams will be absolutely loaded next season.

Kennard and Allen will be represent two of the best scoring guard sin the country next season. Throw in a vet like Matt Jones, a lightning-quick setup man like Thornton, and a do-everything wing like Ingram, and I don't think Duke will have trouble scoring from the perimeter.

Honest question: would Cal have a say-so in such a scenario? I mean, Kentucky is obligated to play in the Big 12 series; are they not?

Actually I don't know. It seems so fluid every year, I'd be surprised if the coaches don't have input.

I like our chances of winning at Kansas with Ulis and Briscoe. Kansas is always soft on the perimeter and like those two being able to get into the defense and dish. We need a fully recovered (and confident) Poy and a much better Marcus Lee going into that game.

Oddly enough, Kentucky has played FIVE Big-12 teams in the NCAA tournament since 2012 -- with predictable results: Iowa State, Baylor and Kansas in 2012, Kansas State in 2014 and West Virginia in 2015 = 5 wins, zero loses.

Actually, we lost to Baylor in 2013.

We don't play UNCheat this season.

I've got three tickets in Section 9. Make me a REALLY big offer and they're yours
Hmmmmm. I live close enough to make the drive up for that game. Just wonder how much of a 2nd mortgage I would have to sign up for to afford four tickets.
This is the 2nd year in a row that Kansas gets to play at home. They played UF at home this past season.... maybe that wasn't part of the "challenge" thing, but I thought it was.

Kansas was @Florida the first year and home against Florida last year. I assume with this year being Kentucky @Kansas that next year would be the flip side with Kansas @Kentucky.

I would think that at least preseason KU should be heavily favored, it will be more evened up if we land another big and a wing like Murray then I like our chances. Maybe they will be having some turmoil with all those front court players thinking they aren't getting enough minutes.

Nah, not heavy favorites at all, especially if Kentucky lands Swanigan. Both Kansas and Kentucky will be preseason top 5 teams and it will be a very exciting game. I am glad the game has been moved to the end of January so that the young guys on both teams can get up to speed and we can see a good match up.

For those with some serious cash that manage to score tickets, I hope you enjoy your experience at Allen Fieldhouse. There is a zero percent chance that we will be giving up any of our tickets. I assume it will be a prime time game so the crowd should be loud and rowdy after a long day of prepping. I expect that I am going to be without a voice for a week after the game. Should be a great game!

I would definitely love to watch a game in PAF, although the UK would be too rich for my blood. But watching a game there is definitely a bucket-list item.

I don't really know a lot about Kansas' roster next year, but it seemed like your guards/wings struggled a lot. Any pieces added to make that better or are your players just going to have to improve?

In OOC play we did lose to Baylor 2 yrs in a row. Once in Dallas and then at Rupp, I don't think anybody thought we would of lost those two.

KU's guards in Frank Mason and freshman Devonte Graham played great all year. SG Wayne Selden was hot and cold and Oubre was bad early and excellent late. There are tons of guards at Kansas that play well, what KU sorely lacked was a rim protector and physical bigs, especially once Cliff was out.

Using that same line of though shouldnt we be playing @ Texas this year?

I would liked to have seen UK make a return trip to Austin, bored with playing KU again. These should be 2yr. matchups, imo.

Should be a good game, but winning at Allen Fieldhouse would be a monumental task for this team.

I like our starting backcourt (Ulis/Briscoe) better than theirs (Mason/Selden), and I'll take Labissiere over Diallo (though it's close). Ellis and Poythress are a wash, IMHO. Whoever plays the 3 for them probably has an advantage unless we get Murray. Their bench is a lot better and much deeper than ours.

With homecourt advantage, I think KU wins this one.

aaand the Jaybirds just circled a game on their schedule. Superbowl in Larry, KS

I'm sure they're looking forward to Cal walking into their gym for as much as they came unglued with his arrival in Lexington.

Unfortunately I agree. If they can't get a win in that game, they may never beat us again.

Don't expect a win in that environment, but the atmosphere of the game should be great and there's a lot to shake out between now and January 30. Hope KU makes a trip to Rupp soon.

Having them on the schedule regularly would be just fine by me. Maybe make an annual event of it and let Indiana and UCLA play as the has-been undercard.

Number of KU season tickets sold just skyrocketed as did fifth mortgages on double wides in Kentucky

No skyrockets. Kansas will have 240+ consecutive home sell-outs by the time that Wildcats play in AFH on January 30th. Roy was coaching the last time a seat went unsold.

Wouldn't have minded it so much with last years team. Or even if Lyles, Johnson and Booker had returned. Seems like a bad deal for us to take a really young team there.

I actually like seeing it in late January rather than November or December. Both teams should be much improved when in the middle of conference play than they are at the very start of the year.

Backcourt won't be an issue for Duke at all. Up front, on the other hand... all I'll say is Jahlil Okafor won't be walking through the door for them. Sean Obi is a big body and I'm sure his rebounding should translate fine. Who really knows about his offense, though? I sure don't. Marshall Plumlee and Amile Jefferson are fine role players/glue guys, but it's ridiculous to expect any more from them than that.

Then Chase Jeter has some skills and in time could be a really good college player, and granted, his skill set is MUCH different, but I don't see him bringing that big immediate impact Okafor brought.

They probably look a little more like 2014 than 2015 Duke.

Still, it's usually the 1-4 spots that win it for Duke.

Even last year, it was the guards and Winslow down the stretch that carried the Devils to the title, not Okafor, IMHO.

They will be very good again. Top five team along with UNC, KU, Maryland, and UK.
