UK Ranked 14th in AP Poll

Opportunity. Sure the season could revert back to where it was a few weeks ago. But the Cats can make a run and get a 2 seed.

If it weren't for the inexplicable loss to Tenn where Kentucky dominated them and then somehow lost a 21 pt lead, the Cats would be in the top 10 right now. Not to mention the Kansas OT loss. Woulda/Shoulda/Coulda but the Cats EASILY should be 21-4 right now, looking at a 2 seed and the chance to go even higher.

One game at a time the rest of the way. Vols up next. No time for a let down.

Eff it, we can win out. Aside from that inexplicable collapse at Tennessee, we've had one hell of a stretch of games. I don't think we have any more @UT performances left in us.

And what's easy to forget is that first half of the UT game was a MASTERPIECE by the Cats. They got gassed from Two road trips in 3 days.

I thought we would climb to 16 so this is a nice surprise. You guys are forgetting about Auburn too.

ap poll on ncaa site has uk-iowa st tied at 13. AP website has X and mich st tied at 8. weird.

I think we are better than #14, but with the way the polls work that's a fair spot. And if we really are better than #14, we will have the chance to prove it and it won't end up mattering. Looks good to me!
We are better than 14 but you don't see too many teams jump more than 8 spots in one week.
I'll take it.

If we can keep winning to close out the regular season, we have a good shot at a top four seed. Maybe even a 2.

Iowa St still getting that Big 12 love I see.

We are the highest 6 loss team but trail 7 loss Iowa St

Iowa State has 7 RPI Top-50 wins, and only one loss outside of the top 50.

We have 5 RPI Top-50 wins, and 5 losses outside the RPI Top-50.

And you think we should be above them??

Explain please.

All of that won't matter when the tournament starts.
We have a lot of red marks on our reseme right now but it looks to me like those ugly losses have fueled this turnaround and if UK can somehow scratch out a 2 seed after all of that I will be very happy.

I just want to at least get a 3 seed. While I don't fear anyone with how we are playing, think getting 3 seed or better really helps the odds. Don't really want to be a 4 or 5 seed and be stuck likely playing a 1 seed in the Sweet 16. A 3 seed or better is a pretty big deal IMO.

Yeah, our losses are ugly, really ugly.

I totally agree...and those losses will harm our Seed.

But to you and me, everything prior to the past month is immaterial. Cal's 2016 tweaks have totally changed our aptitude and altitude. Ask Vandy. Ask Kansas. Ask Georgia. Ask Florida. Ask Frank Martin.

So, after that decisive win, at home, Duke moves up 10 places in the AP and 9 in the Coaches. Seems about right for them. Not for any other team, but right for them.

I agree. To me, its not about being afraid of playing anyone. It has a lot to do with when you start running into those big games. A second round 3 vs 6 or 2 vs 7 can take a lot less toll on a team than that 4 vs 5. Also, those first round upsets on a 4 vs 13 and in particular a 5 vs 12 happen pretty often. Once you get to the second weekend especially with parity this day and ago, every game is a big test.

Duke beat 2 Top-13 teams last week, and pretty much everyone else in the Top-25 lost.

Come on now people. Common sense. It's not a conspiracy

And yet, RPI ranks us 13th and Iowa St. 15th.

If you are going to base your entire analysis off of RPI, shouldn't you take RPI's word for it that we are better than Iowa St.?

Rather pleased with the rankings
I was thinking (Yes, I know, dangerous), it's expecting too much for 40-0 right? I agree, so I modified it to, let's say, from this point to the end of the season, we go 15-0. That's less than half, puts much less pressure on everyone concerned. It's only fair, right?

I was making the point that they did not beat Virginia, they were given the game. Everyone voting knows this.

Forgot to add, beating an over ranked and dead man walking ul does not warrant that type of jump either.

My point was simply that they have more quality wins, and FAR less bad losses.

We lost to Tennessee, Auburn, and Ohio State. Those are BAD losses. Very bad.

They have wins over KU and Oklahoma (better than any that we have), and virtually no bad losses.

They rank higher in BPI, KenPom, have a higher SOS, and more quality wins (by NCAA committee standards).

I wouldn't argue one bit if we were ranked higher, but anyone complaining about being ranked below them is grasping at straws.

We are 9th in kenpom and they are 15th. But keep trying.

Btw, BPI is flawed because it has only given us partial credit for our last three wins, because Poythress didn't play.

This is especially damaging because they happen to be our 3 best results of the season. That's why we've been flying up the other computer models while barely budging in BPI.

So maybe on selection Sunday when the committee is placing Kentucky they really shouldn't give much weight to the wins over UL and Duke right?

Any reasonable person can't disagree with what you are saying. UK does have some terrible losses. The silver lining is I personally think they are playing really good basketball at the moment.

Duke is playing fine, imo, and deserves their ranking.

Will you guys get Jefferson back this year?

They act like there's a chance he can return while at the same time talking about the pain he's still having in the foot. It makes no sense. They should just give a medical redshirt. There are only six regular season games left. It's perplexing to me.
