UK now trending for Vick

Vick will be visiting Kansas State this weekend, Kansas next Wednesday/Thursday and Kentucky after next weekend.

I like that this A-gives us a little time in which hopefully Murray makes a decision on which class to be a part of and B-gives us last crack at him (unless of course Self can Coax a commitment while he's in Lawrence and he never gets here). Go get him.

Even if Vick goes to Kansas, I doubt he will see much time this year. He would have Mason, Graham, Greene, and Selden ahead of him. Possibly Svi, depending on how Self would use him.

As much as I hate KU, and think that Self has not done that well with OAD types, I think they could be one of the favorites next season. Last season they were wanting in the frontcourt outside of Ellis, since Alexander didn't work out for them. Adding Bragg and Diallo helps in that regard, and they are set at the other positions. Yet another B-12 title is a lock, but hopefully that will be the only ship they get.

Kansas is selling Vick the "Ben McClemore" plan where he will either RS or ride the bench for a year while learning the system and growing fully into his body for plenty of minutes next year.

Cal has offered Vick a scholarship for 2015 but not 2016. That is where the confusion lies at this point concerning who has offered, IMO.

Cal does not expect Vick to be a contributor and Vick is 100% OK with that. He was about to go to prep school. Remember? At UK, he will have the luxury of maturing against the best players in the nation day in and day out. That seems like a MUCH better option than prep school to this fine, well-spoken, hard working man.

He is a great athlete with a knack for the intangibles, but is still a bit "clumsy" with his game. He would be an EXCELLENT signee for UK at this juncture, but pumping him up to be a player that will be competing with Matthews and Mulder for minutes is premature at this point in time.

Between his height and skill set, nearly EVERY team in the nation would love to take a flyer on Vick this late in the period.

Vick's recruitment has absolutely ZERO correlation to the recruitment of Murray.

Murray would be in the rotation from day 1, Vick is not at that point yet in his game.

Not a "put down" on Vick AT ALL. He could become a GREAT player for UK, but it will not be this year, in my worthless opinion.

As always, I am completely full of crap and everything I say is told to me by small fairies at night LOL

UK is still looking to sign 2 more players, as I have stated. They are not necessarily looking for "instant big impact" players. The talent in Lexington is already at an insane level that is capable of cutting down the nets.

That is not a put down to any other future signees UK gets, either. Every team needs a rosterfull of players. Not all are recruited to be instant contributors.
Sorry but Vick WILL contribute next year. That's where you're wrong. Only way he doesn't contribute much is if Murray comes

Vick had multiple 40-point games in high school last season and was impressing on the AAU circuit. I agree with you. He brings offense. As a frosh.

Thats if he doesnt commit to another school before he gets to see UK. Sometimes the last visit doesnt even happen.
Yep, I'll be surprised if he makes it here. Does he even have an official offer? If not, then he won't make it past Kansas. Self won't let it happen.

IMO, if we offer, then it's not looking good for Murray.

If we keep waiting, it's not looking good for Murray. I would rather add a quality offensive player on the wing than adding nobody at all. UK can't just sit and wait forever for a teenager to make his mind up.

Huh? How does our waiting have anything to do with Murray's decision? We can't force him to decide sooner.

But we can't wait forever. If we wait too long and not offer Vick, only because we're hoping that Murray reclasses and comes to UK, I'm offering Vick and taking my chances on Murray reclassing or not, because adding one good, athletic offensive player is better than potentially adding nothing at all.

UK needs another wing for next season. There's no guarantee that Murray is even going to reclassify (although it looks like he will) and there's no guarantee he picks UK even if he does. I think there's a better chance that UK can get Vick than getting Murray in either 2015 OR 2016.

He's also visiting next weekend. I'd say a decision will be done within the next 10-12 days.

Murray >>> Matthews, Mulder, Willis > Vick

You wait on Murray as long as it takes.

Kentucky is not a program that should/will potentially harm itself based on several decisions of one kid. If Murray wants to take his time making a decision to reclass or not, and then likely take more time to make a college decision, UK needs to move on with recruiting and do what's best for it. If Murray wants to jump on board, we would all be happy, but there are too many questions in his recruitment to bring a halt to the world and stop recruiting everybody else just to recruit him. We don't even know if he's going to reclass. He may end up never going to college for all we know, which is nothing.

He already stated that he would not be playing with his EYBL team this year. Said he's staying in Canada to work on some things, though I can't remember what those things were off the top of my head.

Yeah do you wait for Murray and his unknown time line and risk getting neither or go for Vick now?
After what happened in April, a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush. If Vick wants to commit, we take him. But Murray is in a different talent class. If Murray wants to play at Kentucky, he won't care about Vick. Murray is the better player by far. Anywhere Murray goes, there will be competition. And Calipari isn't running short of scholarships. But it is far from sure whether Murray will reclassify.
