Yes, in the context of Power 5, the ACC is a weak football conference. I don't know if UL is a "bottom feeder", but they are middle tier in their conference at best. Since Jurich was fired and the cheating was reeled in, the Cards haven't been competitive with top tier ACC teams even though top ACC programs themselves have generally been going in the wrong direction. The UL fans believe Brohm is their football savior who will fix it. That remains to be seen. Clearly, though, any reasonable person who has watched the last 4 UK-UL games could see that UK players are bigger, stronger, and better up and down the two rosters.

That doesn't necessarily mean UL should be dropped. Having a likely win on the schedule is not a bad thing. An annual reminder to hs coaching staffs in our region that UK is a higher quality program than UL is not a bad thing either. The rationale for dropping them, if we do that, is that UL has one of the most dysfunctional departments of athletics and one of the most corrupt fan bases in Power 5, even now. To put it bluntly, they are a trash athletics department. All kinds of troubles cascade from that. That's why the series may not be worth it from our perspective.

Disagree. Our strength of schedule isn't our problem...being competitive vs UGA and beating UT with more regularity is our problem. The UL game (or a swap out for another squad) won't impact our biggest flaw...beating marquee teams within our own conference.

Not sure why we would want to give up the opportunity to whip their a$$es every year anyway. They're a hated inter-conference rival. You don't see UGA wanting to give up GaTech....FSU and UF thinking of ending the rivalry? Clemson & So Carolina? Nope....Iowa vs Iowa St...Utah/BYU....ND/Navy?....

UL is a reliable P5 victory every year that helps us draw the quality players from inside the commonwealth. A game that draws the eyes of fans from one great conference (SEC) and one good conference (ACC). A good game for UK all around (and usually a win). Give the Gov's Cup up for a game against WVU, Cincy, or IU...Thanks, but no thanks.

Nothing new, but I find playing them every year tiresome. Once every 2-4, Ok. I'd prefer variety with OOC teams such as WV/UC/IU. With the no divisions SEC setup, we'll be playing them more often than all but 1-3 SEC schools. I find that ridiculous.

A lot of folks say this as justification fir playing Louisville. So, we have beaten them every yr we have played since 2018 (no covid).

What contributing player is on our roster now who wouldn't be if we had lost 1 or 2 of those games?

1. It helps us with recruiting especially in Louisville as long as we keep dominating.
2. They are usually over rated so a win over them helps us in the bowl rankings
3. Rivalry has built in motivation.
4. They fall last on the schedule so there is no opportunity for a "let down" game afterwards, whereas if we scheduled some other non sec P5 team in the middle of the season it can lead to a let down against a SEC team falling next on the schedule.

I agree with this, UGA doesn't want to end the GT series, Carolina wanted to go against the SEC rules in the covid year to play Clemson, they don't want the series to end, FSU and UF want to keep the series going. The 4 cross over games on rivalry weekend is a pretty big deal for both conferences. But everyone is entitled to an opinion. SEC is mandated a P5 opponent and may still when/if we go to 9 conference games.

I am sure each of the 4 fanbases has fans wanting to end their respective series. But the majority want to keep playing

I sgree, beating UC every 2-4 years would help our long term recruiting much more than beating UL and locking down the state. It’s a no brainer that the quality and quantity of recruits in that region (including NKy) is higher and with Brohm at Louisville it will make it tougher to pull kids from there win or lose imo. As far as the remainder of our state, most kids are going to favor us no matter who we play or beat and we also have IMG in our backyard.

But I do get lots of enjoyment from our consistent throttling of the Cards and listening to their delusional fanbase whine. Best part is this time of year when they’ve convinced themselves that their going to demolish us and regain their nationally recognized “blue blood” status. Delusional.

It's a rivalry to us but it's really not a rivalry in the context of national significance.

Anymore the game doesn't do a whole lot for the program.

Recruiting...were not recruiting in Louisville, against Louisville anymore. We've progressed.

The more time and effort we spend in-state the less time and effort we're spending in Florida, Georgia, Texas...

It's about time to drop some Lake Erie area commuter schools as well as we're about tapped out in Ohio. Again, playing those schools doesn't do a whole lot for program in terms of competitive preparation for the SEC and we kind of need to move on in terms of recruiting as well. Our ties are pretty established in that state now, and we really aren't going to bust through the wall that gets us the Ohio State, Penn State, Notre Dame, Michigan, talent.

Recruiting is about expanding the brand. To get into new areas and make new ties you have to be seen and heard in those areas. Playing Miami, UCF, USF, Houston, SMU, Texas Tech will net more talent than playing small Ohio Valley/Great Lake region commuters.

Yeah, that may mean a home and home...so what...BBN showing up in Dade County may cause some youth or high school footballers in the stands to say "hmmm Miami isn't worth a lick anymore, ACC is weak...lot of blue and white in the stands...what is this UK football all about..."

Same goes for east Texas. The 3-star talent in that area is 4-star talent or better almost everywhere else but Florida. Plus the population boom that specific section of the state has seen thanks to the California exodus...new influx of talent...

Nobody outside the Commonwealth cares about this rivalry. This game will always be on SEC or ACC network regional TV. Probably noon, to make room for all the real end of season rivalries with real history.

Hell some years when 1 side or the other is crashing does everyone in Kentucky even care? Did UL fans care that much last Nov, didn't seem like it even though they had a decent shot. Not sure UK fans cared a lot with the disappointing season.

The correct takes. I’d only add its great for fellowship if you have mix of UK friends and family. It’s an awesome week and an awesome excuse to hang out, share texts/calls, and build a communal experience. It’s important to play for non sport reasons.

Agree. I posted several times over the past few years they should be kicked from the schedule. They desperately need us and we gain nothing from playing them.

Their whole season is focused on beating us in hopes of gaining visibility and turning around in state recruiting. Whereas if we beat them, we're supposed to.
