Wilkerson will be starter with or without Lewis
Do not think there will be much difference
I think it’s about PT and pecking order for Lewis.Pettiford didn’t start for Auburn but was one of the most effective guards in the country.
You had me up to this point. I like Perry as he seems like a great kid but if he was from Minnesota we wouldn't be saying he is capable. I've witnessed this fan base ready to get rid of players who had better production than Travis.
With his dad going to jail for stealing money, I'm guessing the FBI froze/confiscated a bunch of those funds. So the kid may feel the pressure to go out and get the biggest bag he can.Tampering, wanted a guaranteed starting spot or bigger bag thrown at him ? Something else ?
This is nonsensical. If that were true then he also would’ve passed on Lowe. The worst thing about this is I do believe Pope passed on Dent because he didn’t want to lose Lewis. Ohh well, on to the next.
Calab Foster was #20/5 star and riding the bench for the second year. Have not heard of him thinking about leaving - at least yet.But these talented players are willing to be bench warmer in duke, lol
I think that's crazy to give someone, who hasn't played 1 second in college $800k, much less what the bigger names are getting- does anyone know if the NIL $$ these kids are getting are taxed like ordinary income??To answer OPs question, I am going to guess YES.
My guess (total guess), is that Acaden got somewhere in the $800K range in NIL.
So that frees up an extra $800K to get Wilkerson.
Get Wilkerson, and prep Jasper/Chandler to be PGs 2 and 3, PLUS we have Perry who is capable, and let's ride.
Turning your comment around a bit - A talented player should ride the pine if he does not “earn” playing time! Not terrible at all. He is going to face competition at all major Div 1 schools. If he wants to play more or potentially be “the man” go to a mid-major. Alas the $$ are not available from the mid-major. Sometimes you cannot have your cake and eat it too!Terrible news. I think Jasper would de-commit as well had he not been from Kentucky. You can’t recruit talented players like that and expect them to ride the pine.

Hadn't seen good old Mr Whipple in a generation or more. The same Jasper that just talked Quaintance into coming to the table and hearing what Pope and UK had to offer?
Sure.

I doubt anyone is getting 30 on average.I think it’s about PT and pecking order for Lewis.
He knew he wasn’t starting, but he was getting pushed further and further down the pecking order with each new portal commitment.
He saw that he wasn’t going to play much barring injuries with all the guards/wings in front of him.
1 Oweh- going to play 30+ minutes.
2 Lowe- going to play 25-30 minutes.
3 Wilkerson (or whoever takes that spot)- going to play 25-30 minutes.
4 Johnson- going to play 20-25 minutes at least.
5 Williams- going to play 15-20 minutes at least.
6 Chandler- going to play 10-15 minutes at least.
Where did he fit in? With Wilkerson or another shooter like him coming in, that means less minutes for Johnson on the wing, which means he is going to get first crack at backup PG minutes. He’s the hometown boy and higher ranked than Lewis. He’s a CG who is looking to be OAD and at 6’4, his NBA position is likely PG.
Lewis saw the writing on the wall. He was low man on the totem pole.
As for the Pettiford comparison, I would say Johnson is the guy that probably plays that type of role for us next season.
I look for Lowe and Johnson to see most of the minutes at PG with Wilkerson (or whoever we sign for that spot) being the third option at Point and Chandler/Perry as the emergency guys like this past season.
We will probably regret that he left, but he probably won’t. He will go somewhere and get 25+ minutes a game at PG. Can’t blame him for leaving under these circumstances.
If we now get Pierre because of this, I will forget the name Acaden Lewis forever!!!I think we were getting Wilkerson anyways.
Makes me wonder if we have more cash to get back in on the Pierre convo now….or close on Lee and Wilkerson.
then again….maybe Pope signs Wilkerson and guarantees Jasper backup minutes at the 1 and 2 to get his 20+ min a game. And you have Chandler as the 3rd backup and Perry as the break in case of emergency
I believe this to be the reason we may have missed out on so many of the top recruits. The same Jasper that just talked Quaintance into coming to the table and hearing what Pope and UK had to offer?
Sure.

True point guards are so important at the college level. You see how it worked out when both Butler and Krissa were out, and even when it was just Butler as our only true PG. It wasn't pretty watching Oweh and Chandler having to man the PG duties. In fact, not having a true PG at the end of the Oklahoma game almost cost us a first game exit in the SEC Tournament. So yes, we need two traditional PGs if we want the best possible team on the floor at all times.I don't think Pope needs a true traditional PG in his system as some think. Pope runs his half court mainly through the 4 or 5. As long as we have guards that can handle pressure, we'll be fine.

Yes, but states like North Carolina are passing legislation to keep NIL earnings tax free.I think that's crazy to give someone, who hasn't played 1 second in college $800k, much less what the bigger names are getting- does anyone know if the NIL $$ these kids are getting are taxed like ordinary income??
that would be a big advantage to those schools in those states who do thatYes, but states like North Carolina are passing legislation to keep NIL earnings tax free.
