UK looks good at adding 3 more players...Ben Roberts

Bamba, Johnson, Barker

I disagree that this is the "likely scenario". Best case scenario for sure, but likely? not right now.

If that's who we finish this class with, consider me pretty damn pumped for next year.

As of now UK will have a tough season. Plenty of highs and lows. But with those 3 added, I think next year could be a team where if they mesh well and improve like they should, damn good chance of stealing a title. From what I've seen, and things could obviously change, college bball next year is going to be pretty thin overall on talent.

Do you have any personal, inside info that makes you think this? Not being a smart ass, really. Cause I think we stand a good chance at getting these 3 based on what I've read from different sites and from what those "in the know" are saying. The 3 Rivals guys who predicted Texas for Bamba are really the most visible dissenting opinions for where he lands.

Yep, this addition of these three, with what we already have coming in, will be a big, athletic, and fast team with plenty of shooting ability.

Tough season? What, we only win 27 or 28 games? Are you kidding me? Only at Kentucky.

You consider a season with 8-10 losses a good one by Kentucky standards? Have you been aware of the majority of the posters on this board during one of those types of seasons? Or how about this most recent season where we lost 6 games. You'd think Armageddon was coming to earth.

With Fox and Monk's departure, UK was losing 43% of it's scoring on the season. With our seniors and Briscoe leaving, that's at least 70%. Might as well consider Bam leaving, and if that's the case that at least 80% of scoring gone. And you think the current team as is is going to slide right in and pickup close to that production in the beginning of the season? Get f**king real dude.

I don't think @JFCats22 is speaking in the sense that he knows it's not going to happen. I think he's saying don't assume anything until the guys actually commit. Recruiting is fluid and alive, things happen and change.

True but I believe we are in the drivers seat for all 3 right now.

.
So, you are basing your assessment of whether a season is good or bad on the reactions of the least stable and most loud mouthed posters on this board? I predict if you use that metric Kentucky will never have a good season.

This would be considered the greatest recruiting class of all time...

Mo Bamba *****
Hamidou Diallo *****
Jarred Vanderbilt *****
P.J. Washington *****
Quade Green *****
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander ****
Jemarl Baker ****
Cam Johnson (grad transfer)

...thats a ready made team from jump street. Add in Wenyen and Sacha and you have seven 5-stars and a handful of other guys who can contribute from day one. If this works out, I actually expect the NCAA to step in and find some way to make it illegal to sign this many top recruits again.

No, I base my merits of how good a season is by total number of wins and progression in the NCAA tourney. This most recent season? Pretty good. The one before? It was ok.

How much the average fan complains about how the season is going on though during our February stretch where we usually struggle, and despite most knowing it, gets pretty old to listen to. A lot of people say "trust in Cal," yet we still have constant bitching during the same period every year about said coach. If that sometimes doesn't frustrate you, then more power to you. I envy you, no sarcasm, that you can block out the noise. I have a lot of diehard UK coworkers though who are older fans and therefore my views usually don't match with theirs. Their complaining gets old to listen to.

The point I was making though is that current team as is, will struggle heavily during the year, and has a much limited ceiling for how far they will advance in tourney. So by that criteria, the team as is will have a tough season ahead of them by UK basketball standards.

Diallo is the key to next year IMO. We will need that one guy that we can hand them the ball and say "get me a bucket". If Diallo can be that we'll be good enough defensively to have a shot at the title.

Have you ever seen that poster say anything positive? Not trying to be a smartass either, this is pretty much what he does. Cry and spread negativity

I put him on ignore as some of the comments are silly and just negativity for its own sake . There is zero chance we lose 10 games next season . IMO we will lose 1 non conference game ( 2 tops ) and 3-5 SEC games due to how damn good it will be next season but we will still win the conference and be a 2 seed. If we get Bamba regardless of whether we add Johnson or knox we will be the best team in the land by March , of that I have no doubt. We will look bad at times like the we do almost every year with all freshmen but we won't lose much do to the talent level.

I just think "likely" is a bit much. Possible, maybe even probable? But to say it's likely is an overstatement, IMO. Bamba is 50/50 at best it seems and Johnson is a total unknown right now.

You're right I should. As of now I have no one on ignore. Not even posters like Zay. Maybe I should use that feature

I too think we will be looking great come late January thru March.

I worry about Zona with Johnson. They just visited him, and they pick up 1 or 2 grad transfers every year it seems. There's numerous good programs in the running for him. What are the reasons insiders think we lead for him?

Why? Sure I can see 8 losses or so as this team stands. But after Vanderbilt showed what he can do in the hoop summit I feel much better same for Alexander and Richards. We have a play making point guard an explosive 2guard who got a half season headstart, a 3 who plays like a point forward to put at the freethrow line against the zone, a stretch 4 who rebounds well, a 5 that is a 7ft rim protector whith some weight and a means streak. Back up guard who is a 6ft6 with excellent length. Some muscle off the bench inside and a versatile 5stsr back up forward. When that team gets it and learns to play together not alot of weaknesses besides three point shooting and we will be long and brutal defensively. This team as is is deeper than the 2011 final 4 team

Yeah I think "likely" probably shouldn't have been used.

Let's say we have a 70% shot at getting each of them. That means we'd only have a 34% of getting all three.

Which doesn't sound "likely" lol

Cal's relationship with his father and both being from the same town I imagine. Plus we're UK,

Not saying we can't or won't be good, but that we need to temper expectations. Especially after the performance in one all-star game. Also, we need to remember how much production we're losing.

Skal looked unstoppable in that game as well. We know how the rest of the story went.

Deeper than both 2011 and 2012. Neither of those teams were particularly deep. But the nuclei of those teams were great. I think next season's roster is sneaky good and could end up being one of Cal's best when its wall said and done. All depends on how the pieces fit. With our versatility and length at all positions we are going to have a lot of weapons and looks to play with. Going to be another fun year with potential for special status (if we add Bamba).
