I am not familiar with Patterson, but this is how Stoops might look at him. High school players get recruited for their athleticism, agility, and toughness. Patterson is 6' 200 lb, and plays weakside defensive end for his high school in Birmingham. He is almost exactly the same size Wesley Woodyard was as a high school senior, and Woodyard also saw some snaps as a defensive end at Lagrange High School. That could be the comp, but it's only a guess. If Patterson stays on the defensive side in college, he is a safety unless he blows up into an inside linebacker. Woodyard played some games at inside linebacker for Brooks before he broke his leg and then got moved outside to Will. It would be interesting to know if maybe Patterson played an offensive position for his high school team at some time last year.
