Just got word that Chad Scott stopped by Tampa (Fla.) Hillsborough today. He's been blazing his usual trail (or a very similar one) through his familiar recruiting area, meeting up with many of the high school coaches he knows, keeping his ear to the ground for anything on seniors, and most importantly laying the groundwork for a 2017 class in Florida that could be pretty solid particularly with Florida native and quarterback Mac Jones already on board.

The purpose of the trip to Hillsborough, or the main purpose, was to check in on four-star defensive end Zachary Carter.

Carter's a Rivals250 prospect (No. 10 defensive end, No. 237 in 2017 class overall) who we've reported on before. Before tonight the last time I had spoken with Carter was in September. At that time Carter listed Kentucky as one of his four favorites.

Tonight Carter backed off the leader board and said his wave of new offers has made him realize he needs to open his mind a bit and listen to what everyone has to say without preconceptions or favoritism. But he did tell me that he's still got a very good relationship with Chad Scott, that he was very happy that he visited the school and that UK is still an option he's strongly considering.

I've been saying for a year or so now, as have many of you here, that the next great goal for UK football recruiting under Stoops has to be to increase the number of elite athletes they sign on the defensive line. They got the banner offensive line class this year. Would be huge for the program's future to land players like Carter, fellow four-star Joshua Paschal and others.
