U of L sitting at 2-19

Cal’s only coaching ability is to load your team with NBA talent and hope they figure it out. His coaching tree has failed miserably across the board because he has nothing to pass on to his assistants that they can use at a head coaching gig.

No NBA talent, no wins for Kenny.

What team has won recently without NBA talent?

Well, looking at their history, this actually won't be the worst season percentage-wise because they went 0-3 their first season. They also had 1-13, 1-15, and 1-18 seasons. But in terms of number of actual losses, this will definitely be the worst by far, as the previous record appears to be 20. They will eclipse that very soon.

The best part of the 2-19 is that most have been on national television.

Didn't think Louisville would be this bad even if they tried. KP is just a horrible head coach They have much better talent than how they are playing and, as always, that falls on the shoulders of the HC.

Great news - they can't keep him being this bad but can't fire him as he's a protected class only 1 year in. So either move they make will ensure the dumpster burns bright for another season or 3.

Skyy Clark could be joining them soon. Not sure if he can play right away but if he can, boy, watch out!

Way to suck, Georgia Tech. :/

U6 68 - Georgia Tech 58

So the Cards improve to 3-19 and aren't at the bottom of the ACC any more: they're 1-10 in conference play, and Georgia Tech is now 1-11.

7-16 (5-7) Florida State's next up for U6 (Saturday at 2:00), and heavily favored.

Actually, you raise a very valid point. Has anyone in Cal's coaching tree had a modicum of success?

Two seasons ago we had the worst season in the school’s history. It‘s gonna be a LONG time before I’ll make fun of any other program.
9-16 is way different than 3-27 or whatever they may finish. We actually lost about 7 games by like 2 possessions as well. It sucked and is inexcusable but we were competitive is what I mean.

The amazing thing is that 9-16 Kentucky squad finished the season ranked 49th in KenPom, which isn’t bad at all. It lost a lot of games to good teams by one or two possessions and didn’t play any cupcakes. Louisville is 292nd on KenPom and played a number of cupcakes that it lost to anyway.

The statistical efficiency associated with those rankings means that if the 9-16 Kentucky squad and the current Louisville team played each other on a neutral court and both gave their average performance, Kentucky would win by 20 points.

So I hear what you’re saying, but our rock bottom was nowhere near what Louisville is currently experiencing.

I feel bad for Kenny Payne but I don’t like Louisville. Payne and Cal have something in common they coached their respective teams to the worst regular season loses in school history.

Hate that they blew their chance vs UNCheat.
Let's hope they don't do the same, and can win at Duke!

Kansas just last year. And the majority of Champs other than 2012 UK and 2015 Duke.

Kansas had a team of College Developed basketball players full of Juniors, Seniors, and Superseniors.

They had 2 NBA picks last year but they were a Junior and Senior respectively. Our 9 win team had 3nba picks but they were all undeveloped freshmen.

There is a difference between a system developing players over a couple years that turn into NBA players vs getting the latest batch of 18 year olds with nba measurables and hoping they live up to the potential and turn into a well rounded college basketball player in 6 months

High school just doesn’t consistently produce Kobe, Lebron, AD, Wall, Cousins, Zion level Day 1 NBA guys for it to be effective yearly…especially now that it’s rare they all go to the same place. A top 5 guy in one years class may be #20 and need 2-3 years of college if they were in a different class. But when your model is built on that you have to clear space for the next batch

Ochai Agbaji would have never made it to his senior year here. Nor would Jalen Brunson/Mikel Bridges/Josh Hart off Novas elite teams. They either would have went to the league a year too soon or transferred

That's NBA talent when you have 2 first round draft picks.

Again, what team didn't have NBA talent and won a championship relatively recently?
