Tucker: UK will rely less on true freshmen, but here are five I think will play

New Story || As UK football improves, it'll rely less on true freshmen. But here are five I think will play in 2015: http://www.courier-journal.com/story/sports/college/kentucky/2015/08/13/five-uk-freshmen-most-likely--play/31657893/…

If you aren't signing 7-10 guys who can come in and play as true frosh you aren't getting it done on the recruiting front, out of any given class there you will be lucky to get good contribution from about half of it, 4-8 are likely to give up football or transfer and the rest are career backups or scout teamers. Only about 50-55 actually play regularly.

Tall corners. It will be SOOO nice to have those guys around for the next four years.

Like everyone, I'm really excited about Asafo-Adjei. UK's o-line along with those young corners might be the difference between 6-6 and 8-4.

GBB!!!

I've got to watch the freshman corner #21 at a couple of practices. He is an NFL prospect. Uses his long arms to come over receivers.

Only concern is that he is very lean at this point, but covers receivers like he's 5'10.

You can tell a lot from what Stoops has said this week. At least 5 true freshmen will play, but no more than 8. Stoops has already basically said Walker, Conrad, and GAA will play. Reading between the lines, King and Westry will also play. Those 5 are obvious. Jones, Daniel, Baity, Greenwood, and Richardson are in the group that might or might not play, but half of them will redshirt. All the other true freshmen should redshirt.

Pretty obvious that Stoops is really wanting Westry to play big snaps this year. Reminds me of his Kendall Randolph love last season. He may be my favorite player in the class.

Really hoping we redshirt Greenwood. Hes going to be awesome. HATED that TV Williams played last year. Wasted season.

Stoops is giving kids the option of playing or rs'ing. I think that is where some of the confusion on our side comes from. Maybe a kid was told if he makes 2 special teams and 3 deep the he will play so they stick with it. I'm pretty sure that's why we got some of them including Westry. He said he knew we had pt at cb this year and that was a major factor for him.

Yeah I agree that these days the really good true freshmen are able to come in and contribute right away and fill some spots (especially at the skill positions)..now you don't want them to be the bulk of your team or anything, but if you're recruiting at a high level you should be bringing in several of those true freshmen that are able to come in and plug in some holes and make an impact..those young guys are better equipped than ever coming out of HS and more and more are enrolling early

Starting to prove what Maggard and others were saying about this class. Not the highest ranked class, but filled with true football players with the size and ability KY has been lacking for a long time now.

To me, its a very good sign seeing some of these guys already making an impact because it seems the impacts being made are at positions that have been a serious weakness since Stoops got to KY.

This team is going to surprise some folks and will be a setup season for what I have felt were going to be the true impact years for this staff starting in 16 when all of this talent is developed and ready to make a big statement.

I think the offense in 2016 has a chance of being very special. On defense this year, 2015, some of the younger guys need to get ready in 2016 to take over because whatever you may think of them there is going to be about 10 seniors in the 2 deep that won't be back. That's a good deal of experience.

We should be more talented next year but we will be young. Should be plenty of "wow" moments sprinkled in with "what the hell" moments.

I would not be surprised to see Walker running behind McClain at Nickel.

Walker is playing at safety and I expect him to redshirt based on what I've seen Stoops say about him. Basically said it was a luxury to finally have enough depth to redshirt a guy like Walker that would've been asked to play before this year. Beckham is the guy that you'll see playing the nickel from this class but he'll likely redshirt too
