And Cal did not recruit Noah he would be playing for SC if not for coach Pope.
Krista starting point guard?Always has to be a wet blanket.
We just won by 71 pts on 21 of 42 bombs and Krissa our starting pg didnt play a tic.
Save it!
At the risk of being labeled a know-it-all, I will say he's at an awkward size, not quite tall or athletic enough for a forward, I think he'll make a good guard over time.
I did have a smile on my face thinking that Perry and Noah will be foundational pieces the next couple years.
Fair. They still need to grow and mature, but luckily they have a lot of vets who can help guide them this season.I'm not yet sold either of them will be NBA guys, but I see these guys as potentially having great college careers. I think they will have professional careers, but I just wonder if it will be overseas somewhere.
Perry is a whole different issue. He looks so small and slow against an inferior team. And his handle is not tight at all. Hopefully Pope can scheme him some corner 3’s like Cameron Mills used to get.I agree... I wonder the same thing with Perry (PG size but more SG game). Hopefully both guys can put in the work to enhance their quickness a bit...wouldn't hurt if they grew an extra inch or 2 either.
Like you, I'm not saying they cannot/won't be contributors regardless b/c they already have good skills, but being in a college strength/conditioning program and adding a little quickness will help them immensely.
I was surprised at how well he ran the point. Handled the ball well. Passes well So much Bball iq. As he matures he will be a top pg.Perry is a whole different issue. Agreed ... if Perry is going to be used more as a PG, he'll have to learn the position as he goes along.I was surprised at how well he ran the point. Handled the ball well. Passes well So much Bball iq. As he matures he will be a top pg.
Dontaie was no where near Trent Noah level. Not only can the kid shoot, but he has one of the highest motor and work ethic out of anyone I have ever seen and I got to watch the kid for 5 years in Harlan County. He will not be outworked and he has as high of an IQ as any veteran player around college basketball. Once his body develops more with the weight training I am telling you this kid will be a major contributor for the next three years after this one. You won't find a better kid either maturity and respect wise.I get being excited but calm down lol. Dontaie had some exceptional games but never put it together regularly even after he transfered to a lesser league.
He’s got plenty time to learn without pressure with Butler and Krissa mentoring him. He sure knows how to play.Agreed ... if Perry is going to be used more as a PG, he'll have to learn the position as he goes along.
He was an off-guard in high school.

He does. He said Kerr was hurt because of the intense conditioning they did.Basically, I'd like to see Coach Pope emphasize physical conditioning in the same way that Coach Hall and Coach Pitino did. Their teams were both physically *and* mentally strong. They knew going out on the floor that they were in much better physical condition than the other team and it gave them a high level of confidence in themselves.
Pope is not concerned about anyone's NBA potential that he's recruiting. We, as fans, have gotten conditioned to looking at a player's possible draft position and going by that in our college performance projections. I really don't care how high or if a guy is going to get drafted, I am concerned about how they will do at Kentucky. It's all about banners now. He’s got plenty time to learn without pressure with Butler and Krissa mentoring him. He sure knows how to play.
What about his tips on offensive rebounds to open players who then scored. IQ plays.
Fans have to get away from wanting the Cal athlete vs the skilled high iq bball player. Not every player has to be great at both ends. Blend in varied skill sets.
Perry plays similar to an old school guy Louie Dampier. Not the biggest, quickest best defensive player but sure contributed with heady play and a deadly jumper. Hope he turns out close to him and he’s got 4 years to get there.
Easy man. McDermott was damned good. Like good enough to start from his freshman year forward. Averaged like 15 as a frosh and lead the country in scoring as a senior. Both are white. Both are 6'6". I'll give you that. But pump the brakes just a tad. It's not simple having Doug McDermott's skill set.Noah will be great here. He has the work ethic and he has good size. He isn’t Reed, but he will be a pro before all is said and done. If a guy like Doug McDermott can have a long NBA career, there’s no reason Noah won’t.
That's still a possibility considering last night was only an exhibition, but my guess is if he shows what most know he is capable of then he wouldn't be here for four total years anyways.I would almost rather Noah redshirt this year, just so we can get his peak for 4 solid years. I don't see the minutes for him this year with Robinson on the team.
Great point. I though Noah looks a little doughy and maybe 15 points overweight....turn that into lean muscle at 6-5 205 and I think we'll have a terrific player.A very big reason for Pitino's success is that he put his teams in outstanding physical condition. I see Noah as a player with very good skills who could develop into something very special with a year of intense physical conditioning. The same could be said about many players on this team. Mind you, I'm not saying that they're in bad physical shape now. But it would be good to see this team in condition to full court press for 40 minutes a game. Noah seems to be an excellent candidate for that. He's a Kentucky boy so he already has the motivation and he already possesses many of the basketball skills that he could benefit even more from if he was in elite muscular and cardio physical condition.
I think the euros in the nba have shown us that extra weight helps players who lack athletic ability. bullying is a skill all on its own.Great point. I though Noah looks a little doughy and maybe 15 points overweight....turn that into lean muscle at 6-5 205 and I think we'll have a terrific player.
It was easier for Hall's teams to do that: Hall was among the first wave of coaches who understood the importance of fitness. And he understood the methodical way to achieve it.Basically, I'd like to see Coach Pope emphasize physical conditioning in the same way that Coach Hall and Coach Pitino did. Their teams were both physically *and* mentally strong. They knew going out on the floor that they were in much better physical condition than the other team and it gave them a high level of confidence in themselves.
He wants to put players into the league and it is important to do so but it is not the primary focus but rather something that comes with success on the court.Pope is not concerned about anyone's NBA potential that he's recruiting. I’ll wait until some real competition, but with his size and play so far he can at least contribute a few minutes a game without being any sort of liability. That is great to have toward your 10-12th guys on the bench.Yes. And I believe he will work his butt off to get better, and coach Pope will do everything in his power to help him. That's a great combo.
So, only white guys?Noah's ceiling is Wally Szczerbiak/Matt Harpring, which is a pretty high ceiling.

Dontaie played for a man that did everything he could do to kill his confidence. Dontaie's biggest mistake was playing for someone who didn't even pretend to want him on the team.I get being excited but calm down lol. McDermott was an excellent college player. When he got an open shot, he made it. Plus his dad is a good coach that knew how to get him open shotsEasy man. McDermott was damned good. I do like watching Noah play. He looks exactly like what an eastern KY kid should look like out there. Tshirt under the jersey, appears to be a really tall 12 yr old, and he can just flat shoot it. He's going to be a favorite quickly.
If you're going to blame Calipari for his lack of production, then you also have to blame Rick Stansbury and Steve Lutz.Dontaie played for a man that did everything he could do to kill his confidence. Dpntaie's biggest mistake was playing for someone who didn't even pretend to want him on the team.
No, it is possible to rob a person of their confidence in ways that will never allow them to regain it.If you're going to blame Calipari for his lack of production, then you also have to blame Rick Stansbury and Steve Lutz.
