Travis Perry to the portal

Let's admit that he was a huge disappointment. He actually scored more than Reed, looked great in High School and tournaments, won the 3 point contest and yet couldn't hit shots in real college games even when wide open. I remain shocked at how poorly he did perform.
Had to be nerves. I’m sure wherever he ends up he will be knocking them down like it’s high school again. 23,000 at Rupp may have been too big of a stage for him. Also I hope ppl remember Noah and Perry won us a couple games this year as freshman so it’s crazy to say they couldn’t contribute as seniors. We don’t win that Tennessee game without them.

because of injuries Perry ended up being a big rotation piece. When I seen he wasn’t in the rotation at all at the end of the season I had a feeling he would be leaving. Ik he had a wrist injury or whatever but he said he was good to go. Pope let him know as clear as day.

High school success is irrelevant to college success. It's as simple as that. We saw it with many Cal recruits that played much tougher high school competition than Perry.

Wish him the best wherever he ends up.

Looking back i wonder if this will be a tale of 2 different paths. Perry bolting after 1 year and Noah staying the course. I think Perry could have become a good spot up shooter for us down the road like a Mills but I guess we'll never know.

I truly hope Noah gets some mins and keeps developing here. I think he could be a starter by Jr year if he keeps working and muscles up.

People wanted more opportunities for Travis Perry, and they also wanted a Kentucky roster that had more athleticism, could defend and rebound and had the overall talent of Florida, Alabama, Auburn and Tennessee last year.

Both weren't going to happen, and it wasn't just because Travis has too tight in his chances last year. He was never going to be an SEC-caliber defender. That's just physical ability he doesn't have. So, he could have become a major contributor, a key reserve. But there was never going to be a Kentucky team that competed for National Championships with Travis Perry playing 32 minutes at Point Guard.

Pleased the kid recognized that, and decided playing and maybe being the starter somewhere was more important to him. Vaya Con DIos.

Coming a year after Reed may have been the worst thing possible for him. No one expected Reed to be a lottery pick. I still don’t see how he was the number 3 pick. Also he’s the first top three pick I seen ride the pine as much as he has.

I called this. Sorry but doesn't have what it takes to be a starter here at this point. Smart thing for him to do honestly, he will be able to play more and develop his game.

Really disappointing, kid has skills that would allow him to be extremely productive throughout his career. Great kid, hard worker, really good shooter. He would have developed!

He was put in some tough spots, never complained! I hope he end up at Purdue, I know Coach Painter was a huge fan of his and he will fit really well there.

I'm kind of surprised by this, but i get it. I'll reserve my judgement until next year. Maybe this'll be a great move for him.
Is it possible to enter the portal and still return? Just check to see what's out there, sort of like testing the waters...? Or once you enter, you can't go back kind of thing?

The game has changed. Older players have a huge advantage with the portal system. Working your way up the ladder will require starting at a lower level school . We saw this with so many players this year who played key roles for most of the sweet 16 teams. Only the top 10-20 Freshman will play a key role in the new landscape of the top 25 college programs. Perry was never considered to be in that group so he would have been better doing what Max Green did and be a big fish in a small pond and then move up the ladder. I have always had more hope for Noah due to his size

Or did he come to Kentucky to fulfill a lifelong dream of playing for the Cats even if just for one year knowing he'd eventually be recruited over?
Yup I believe that is the case . Since you can automatically transfer now it makes sense .

With him transferring at the last minute he probably reallly struggled with the decision too .

I didn't read the entire 6 pages on this, but isn't it a tad late to be entering the portal? Doesn't it all end tonight at midnight? What if no one comes along that is enticing enough to leave Kentucky? I guess he returns, correct? I'm sure someone has already made a deal - wouldn't surprise me if a lot of these kids have already been contacted and enticed to enter the portal from other schools, so it's likely Perry already had something in place.

If you were disappointed with Travis Perry this season then your expectations for him were out of whack. He was signed as a shooting guard to run off screens and hit open jumpers in the flow of the offense. We all know what actually happened. Due to the injuries to Butler and Kriisa, he was thrown to the wolves playing out of position in the fierce SEC. It crushed his confidence, to the point he could not make open shots for the first time in his life. He never had a chance to integrate his own skillset into the team concept in the normal way.

This is a shock, I figured he was a Ky fan and would be here 4 yrs.
Just because a player grows up watching and cheering for Kentucky, doesn't mean they are willing to sit on the bench and watch guys be recruited over him. The front of the jersey thing no longer exists. Guys come here for money and leave here if they think they can get better money or better playing time. This guy is the all-time leading scorer in Kentucky high school history. Do you think he's content playing 8 minutes game because he grew up a fan...heck no.

When Coach Beard from Ole Miss made it a point to talk about Travis Perry even though we weren’t even playing them, I had a STRONG feeling that Perry was on the market to transfer.

No doubt in my mind that there are teams that have been in contact with him and want him to come to their school. He was probably weighing it until UK’s roster was complete. Now that he sees he won’t be in the rotation, he is going somewhere that he can play now.

Good luck Travis.

Welcome to 2025. Everything has changed.
That's why you got to be careful who you sign , you can get one player and loose 2.

I just read there is speculation he is going to a mid major school I am sure we will here about it soon . Western Kentucky or st Louis maybe 2 mid majors close to home

Hard to say. If Pope pushed Lewis out the door then of course he will Perry. Not saying he did that to either one but that seemed to be the deal with Lewis from what I read. No Kentucky will never NEED Perry but as a senior he could have been a nice player off the bench. I don’t look at this as Perry didn’t want to compete or anything like that.
This is all correct. I was a huge fan of him and would have been saddened by his departure until the LSU game. Pope put him in against lowly LSU and he immediately caused a mini run for them and had to be pulled. I do not think he got back in either despite the lopsided score.

Yes. You said it better than I ever could.
He is a shooting guard and needs a situation that better fits his skillset.

Hello fellow Alumnus. Head, Head, and Morehead!!!
Wellllll...an "alum" of three years, who knew nights out at the Brass Eagle, Spankys and day drinking with the frat brothers instead of going to class was frowned upon? Im an alum of UCF (eventually). Always good to meet a fellow Eagle! I was there 89-92.

Best of luck to the young man. I hope he has an excellent career elsewhere unless he’s playing the Cats.

The writing was on the wall with how we upgraded the roster athletically. Bottom line is at this point in time, Perry is not an SEC player.

I’m not upset, mad or disappointed. And this is another situation where if Perry was from Montana, no one is lamenting the loss of his minimal production.

I just said yesterday that I hoped both of our Kentucky boys would come back and thought they would. Then this morning I read this, and it really doesn't surprise me. I talked to a really good friend of Perrys last year and he told me if Travis didn't get to play much, he wouldn't be there long. His minutes weren't the problem, it was the fact he was going to be the last guard in on a guard heavy team, I can understand that, meaning he might equal last year's minutes, and that wasn't going to be a sure thing, but he wanted more playing time than that and wasn't going to get it staying at Kentucky. I wish him luck wherever he goes and wished it could have worked out at Kentucky.

Random thoughts … the romantic side of me says I wish he would be a 4 year guy .. add some serious depth and experience to step in at the right moments .
Secondly is this move gonna cost him major bucks ??? He’s wildly popular in / around Lexington and the entire state . Gotta have nice NIL going , to go be the 8-9th man at a nice D1 or go score 45 a game at UPike .. either cost him money . If he goes to non power 5 he gets PT but no money .
Lastly I hope he goes outside the SEC - I don’t want to root against him , all else outside BBN is the enemy .

These are probably better options than Ole Miss. He will continue to run into bigger more athletic guards in the SEC.
Maybe a mid major will give Travis a opportunity to work on His game and transfer back it happens

I could see Perry going somewhere, finding his shot as he gets more involved in the offense, and then becoming a coveted scorer in the transfer portal next season or the year after that (his senior year).

I feel the same way when Lewis decommitted here, nothing. In this era players come, and players go. I still love watching the games, but everything in between has gotten crazy.

Maybe this can put to bed the whole KY boys will have no problem waiting their turn, everybody wants to play and play now.
