Travis Perry to the portal

I'm the opposite of most, I don't get it. Why give up hundreds of thousands of dollars to go somewhere else just to play? Unless he has ambitions of playing professionally then staying at UK secures your future better.
If he wants to play, of course I get it. He just wasn’t going to play anything but garbage minutes here. But if he wanted a lucrative career that didn’t include potential pro ball prospects? Yes, it’s dumb. He could have made tons of money for four years, then stayed in Lexington as a former 4 year UK player, former Mr. Basketball, and a state champ. He’d have business opportunities coming out of his ass, and he’d be a millionaire many times over.

I would guess someone is in his ear about getting paid AND playing big minutes.

There are a few P5 schools that still have their roster hit hard by the portal and willing to pay for a Kentucky player.

Hey was important to Pope early on, but Pope had to realize that even fully healthy he needed a stronger team this year. Kentucky has little room for sentimentality in this era. He'll have to get that assist to turnover ratio under control if he wants to lead a team.

He sees the handwriting on the wall. He's not going to get much game action except for mop up minutes with the roster CMP has for next season. Best of luck young man. 👍

Love upgrading the roster but really wanted the ky kids to stay on board to develop.

Many here got upset when i pointed out he was way behind Noah but it was true. He got plenty of opportunity last year and was just a liability especially towards the end.

I still think he can contribute down the line and hope they all find some way to bring him back.

Guys in the portal don't enter to be the 12th man.
The fact he was the 12th or 13th on our roster speaks volumes as to how loaded we are.

If he goes to a place like Ole Miss, he probably still doesn’t start but at least he’ll be #7 or 8 off the bench and still get 17-20 mpg.

To act like there hasn't been a massive shift away from developing within one program to simply transferring somewhere new is naive at best and ignorant at worst.
Who is acting like that? Nobody I see. I think everybody even slightly paying attention gets it by now.

The whole concept of “development” players is basically now outdated thinking. That’s just not the way it works nowadays. What matters is this year only …not what might happen years down the road.

Efforts toward developing the undeveloped will most likely just be money and time wasted in this era. The fruits of your labor will be enjoyed by some other school after he transfers.

Meh. The bar for mythical ‘always a Cat’ status should be a little higher than a lone season averaging less than 3 points off the bench before hitting the portal? Before becoming memorable, isn’t there a required component of accomplishing something memorable? To each their own.
I just meant it wasn’t any hard feelings. He wasn’t gonna play much if at all this year I don’t blame him for trying to get some pt somewhere. As long as he don’t go to a rival he’s always a cat in my book.

Perry seemed to have the same shooting and adjustment woes, transitioning to college, that Sheppard is experiencing at the pro level. Perry is looking for a better fit. Good Luck to him !!
I understand his leaving and wish him well.

It's quite possible that Perry may not get paid as much now as he did at Kentucky being a benchwarmer.

This MF gonna drop 35 on us at some point. Doesn’t mean he should stay just that’s the BBN karma.

If Noah had gone to USC same deal. Those in state dudes curb stomp us every time. I see Chris Lofton in my nightmares.
Lofton could beat Perry in one on one today. Perry isn’t half as good as Lofton was.

Don’t think he really wants to go. Might still stay. Actually think he should. He’s got a better chance at minutes going into this year than last year IMO. He had 4 experienced guards ahead of him last year. This year he’d have 3 and a freshman who I think he would have pushed for minutes and maybe even beat out. Got a feeling JJ won’t be thrilled with his pt unless he makes major strides over this summer.

Sooo. Is Perry on the same level as Sheppard with BBN now?
Not even close in my mind, unless he goes to UL, Tennessee, or the like. Remember, he was the only kid to stay when Cal left and took his players and recruits with him. He always wanted to come to KY only, as a KY kid, and the guy had some high D1 offers. It’s just the nature of college basketball now. It’s a business and coaches have to put the best that they can on the floor.

Shocked Bama is interested in him after they targeted him and abused him. It’s the exact opposite of why we targeted and got Mo D.
I'm just as shocked that some people think his defensive issues are not something that can be improved and that good coaches can't work with because of the potential he has a a shooter with a very high basketball iq. He is a gritty player and he allows a coach to spread the floor and he also makes smart plays. Travis will develop into a good college player I promise you there are many high level programs that are after his services right now.

The way he plays defense he will never get 20 mpg for a team coached by Beard.

This is a shock, I figured he was a Ky fan and would be here 4 yrs.
Yeah, but when you only have 4 years of college ball to play and you see 4 or 5 better players coming in at your position and you realize it's likely to happen again next year, you have to figure out what you want more. Do you want to be a legacy player that never plays, or do you want to go somewhere and actually play?

Can't blame TP for wanting to go somewhere and play right away.

No, but he understood he wasn’t going to play.
The rumor is Ole Miss so he will still have to develop more lateral speed and strength to get playing time imo.
We have brought in higher caliber athletes that definitely would impact his playing time.

I hate to see him go and wish him the best.

Just don't go to U of L or Indiana.

The kid wasn't good enough to be here. Ky high school legend, completely overmatched at high D1. I seriously doubt if ANY of the big schools after seeing him play will offer him anything. Would fit well at Murray or someplace similar. Finally he was given a chance by our coach to stay here learn improve and try to help us build something. He chose to leave . I don't want him back as a senior which I also believe has 0 percent chance of ever happening. Much like the kid that decommitted, if he isn't willing to fight for a place in line up WE DONT NEED HIM.
Truth!

I would be surprised if he went there. I don’t see him getting major minutes in the SEC, except for a door mat team.

Doubt he was pushed out, more likely told and he knows his minutes would be dwindled this season and he may be able to make a little more money than we were willing to pay for a 10-12th man.
That sounds like pushed out to me; or at least a hard nudge.
