Travis Perry time

Has the coach indicated he is ready by moving him up in the rotation? If not, why not?
Thats not what you were suggesting. You were suggesting the kid isnt working his ass off and isnt playing for the name on the front of the jersey. Pope has said over and over that the kid works as hard as anyone he has been around and is a great teammate. Thats my point.

No that isn’t what I was suggesting at all. I’m suggesting that’s what time it is for Perry right now. I’m not saying whether he is or isn’t doing that. I’m not at practice. I’m saying when he is ready to play, the coach will play the kid. If you don’t believe me go read my post again. I love Travis Perry and think he will thrive eventually. I just don’t have a Kentucky boy fetish or secret agenda

Same. I’m surprised chandler didn’t see any minutes with butler and Oweh in foul trouble and Kerr struggling.

Chandler coming along is the potential missing piece to a F4 run. He has the size and athleticism so he a versatile defensive price for depth
Yeah I was surprised he didn’t at least get chance too, although he did struggle when he was put in against Duke so maybe that has something to do with it

Like i stated before I agree with Pope giving Kriisa a little longer leash due to the inexperience behind him. But i’m surprised at the passionate defense of a guy shooting 25% from the field, 24% from 3 whose defense has been matador like. If he continues like this, he’s unplayable. Doesn’t matter where anyone is from.

We need Kerr playing better to reach our potential. Thats all really. Pope isn’t playing favorites. It’s common sense that an experienced Kerr is better than a freshman Perry. Having said that, nothing wrong with trying something different the next time Kerr is playing poorly.

Kid is better than what he has played so far. If he can’t get it together, I’m sure Pope will start cutting minutes. We all saw how bad Kerr was the other night, it’s not a secret. The complete willingness to throw him out for our favorite is the issue. What you’re stating is rational and understandable— you are not saying the same thing as others. Let’s call a spade a spade

If Butler is out and we see Perry perform reasonably in a backup roll, I would not be surprised to see him play more going forward, especially, if Kerr continues to struggle with his shot. Pope wants to keep Kerr involved at least as long as he is out playing Perry in practice. Kerr has a little more bounce/change of direction than Perry. If Perry can get just a touch more explosion, the dude could be lethal. He just needs to be able to create some space to get a shot off and then find a way to stay in front of his man on defense. Once he gets there, then the ball fake and drive is in play as well. If he gets to that point, we are cooking. I would be getting lean and strong if I were him. Knees over toes baby! He has the intangibles.
If Perry plays tonight he will do well. Why. Cause it’s a big game and freshman tend to focus much more if they know they have to produce No one is really focused in a blowout win so how he or Noah plays in mop up duty isn’t any gage on how either will play . As for pressure we will see sometime this year how they handle it. Remember Uk is not for everyone. 😁

I’m a huge Perry fan and I thought he would be playing better than he’s shown.

It’s obvious he’s trying to do too much when in now.

Pope sees him everyday. And sees him going against Butler and Oweh and makes his decisions on that.

Not anything else.

As much as I want Perry to excel I trust that Coach Pope is doing whatever he thinks will help us win.

I do think Perry’s time will come. It just may not be this season.

Go watch the pg for Creighton. I think Perry could be a much better version of him someday.

I’m sold on Perry. But I am biased.

I know the whole family.

Probably saw him play 20 times.

He’s an odd player to watch. Nothing when not playing makes you think he can play.

He doesn’t look athletic. He’s not very big.

But when he plays he gets to his spot he wants to be.

He gets open when you think he can’t.

Reminds me of Bobby Hurley playing.

Just does things you think he can’t.

But right now the others are better.

If we can learn to patient as well as him, he can have a legendary career.

All Freshman take time to get adjust to playing bigger, faster, stronger athletes. The higher level competition in HS, the faster they adjust. He will be a really good player once he makes the adjustment and gains some confidence. He will certainly not do that with exceptional athletic ability, it will have to be with very good ball handling, shooting and passing. Pope’s system will help him get the most out of his abilities.

I’m being objective, not negative. The Colgate game put it on full display for everyone to see. Perry is slow. Glacier slow. He makes Jim Master look fast. Good luck young man.
I always had faith in Perry because he was solid on the AAU circuit and he had a nice offer sheet besides UK.
I just figured these coaches and the national anyalist couldn't be wrong on him.
It's still early but it's hard to defend Perry against any of the criticisms he's gotten so far.
Honestly I'm not seeing any abilities beyond that of Jarrod Polson and FWIW Polson could dunk with ease.
JP Blevins, who really didn't pan out but still was a little taller, quicker, with a better handle than Perry has shown so far.
I think it's PG or bust with Perry as we'll have Jasper and Chandler at the two with Noah being able to swing there also

Reed’s greatness led us to believe that Perry could do something similar. But the reality is, Perry hasn’t cashed in on wide open threes all season, is a defensive liability, and just doesn’t look like he’ll ever be able to hang with SEC talent.

Unfortunately, I think you’re right. The more I watch him, the more he looks to me like someone who’s probably always gonna be a step too slow to be a driver or to defend those really athletic D1 guards.

And I’m still not sure what position he should play. His size says point, but his game appears more suited for the wing.

I really hope I’m wrong, but I’m significantly less optimistic about his future now than I was at the beginning of the season.

Many kids come into their Freshman year looking slow and out classed. They work in the weight room to change their body and film room to find nuances/tendencies in their opponents and they practice shot fakes/change of pace, etc only to be a significantly different/better Junior or Senior player. Let’s not over hype or trash anyone after 10 games. He, Noah and Chandler(who has not made the splash I thought) will have to do the work. However, if they do the work, I think all of them could be significant contributors by their Junior year. Chandler obviously has the highest ceiling because of his athletic ability, but he is no guarantee.

I think a lot of fans were hoping Perry would be the second coming of Reed Sheppard. Clearly, that is not gonna happen. Hopefully Perry can give us effective minutes by the time he is a Junior.

It's ok for fans to now relax a little bit and trust our head coach's insights on personnel. I know Cal drove us crazy and seemed hell-bent on butting heads with the fanbase. Pope ain't like that. So if Kerr is the backup, that means Perry isn't ready for it. If the 3rd string PG role then goes to Jaxson, again, that means Pope doesn't think Travis Perry is ready. It's ok to be ok with that. We don't have to clamor for the Kentucky boy to get more time - trust Coach Pope, he ain't Cal

Had people get extremely angry at me and making fun for saying the exact same thing. Pope doesn’t hate Kentucky boys and he loves three point shooters. When Travis Perry is ready, he will play. In the meantime, we should support whoever Pope puts out there.
