Transfer Portal Opens Tomorrow

See someone on twitter says he is Lou lock.. He also has "don't contact" tag

Make sense as he can play same role with Reyne Smith there
It’s uofl fans saying that. It’s looking like it’s UK, uofl, unc, and WVA for him. I honestly really like Josh dix the more I watch him. I like him a lot better than I do eaglestaff

Since we're on the topic of portal transfers, let's extend it to coaching transfers.

Does anyone see Hurley wanting to continue dealing with the transfer portal every year? He bitterly told 60 Minutes that he was tiring of the portal, and knew that a number of his guys would be leaving.

Eventually, you have to imagine that guys like Hurley and Oats will tire of recruiting a brand new team every year.

I'm hoping the NBA comes calling for both Oats and Hurley and that they both leave college basketball.

Great win tonight and heading to the Sweet 16 and yet coaches will have to work on next year's roster. Definitely some muscle down low with guys that can grab some rebounds and play great post defense. Go get us some players.
The real March Madness

How do you guys think pope works the portal this wk along with game preparation? Will we see anyone actually commit here this wk or is this something we have to wait until the season is over to hear of commitments?
Wouldn’t shock me if we have some portal targets at the Sweet 16 (as visitors)

UL appears to be the destination on this one .
Pass as Virginia was dog water this year. He may be indeed a good player but I want winners or guys that jump off the page like Agbim when taking a chance on them. It will be 2 weeks before we know the cream of the crop and longer for those who test the draft to see who we should prioritize,

Premium scuttlebutt is UL leads for both McNeely and Ament.
This can't be true!

All I've heard is how the state of Kentucky is poor and can't keep up in NIL. So one mere city, in that same state, can afford to pay elite the talent, but the entire state around that city can't raise enough funds to land premium talent?

:)

It shouldn’t be open while the tourney is going on. Not fair to the good coaches.
I wish the portal wouldn’t open until UK is done for the year. Just my $.02.

I agree. Why not open the day after the championship
Another angle is that of the players. Suppose a player is wanting to enter the portal but his team is still in the tournament. But it certainly doesn’t stop football players from announcing and still playing in the bowl games. Wonder when basketball will come to that.

Agree on Dix. Would be perfect to replace Brea. I still think we need a bigger, athletic wing for defense/rebounding, even if it's a bench guy. Add in a combo guard and 2-3 bigs and we're set.

It’s easy to get excited about all the names that pop up and how they would fit on next years team. The way I see it is we don’t have that much room for depth portal players. To me this years team is the depth. If Oweh and Jasper are starters and we grab 3 other starters from the portal that’s 5. Noah Garrison Moreno Perry Chandler Lewis that’s 11 so anyone else coming in is gonna be the very end of the bench which is not what they are looking for or it will push some of this years team to the 12-15 spots. It’s a tough situation especially at center in my opinion. If we bring in a top center that leaves us with 2 McDonald’s all Americans backing him up. That just doesn’t happen anymore so it’s easy to see that either Garrison can get minutes at the 4 or someone is not gonna be happy. I think you would be hard pressed to find teams where 12-15 are capable players that can actually be counted on. We love our kids but everyone we bring in is gonna move someone farther down the line. We have to win though right? Whatever is best for the team will end up being controversial one way or the other.

How are we feeling about Braden Smith? There was a ton of buzz.

Then after it came out we contacted the UNLV point guard, it makes you think maybe that's not happening.

He would be one of the best portal gets EVER.
I believe Braden Smith was an urban myth. Nobody with any credibly has even mentioned him as leaving. He is at the school he grew up wanting to play for, has had huge success there, and supposedly is making top 10 NIL money. The “ton of buzz” was from an echo chamber imo.

I will say someone on this site said MJ from KSR was directly asked if Braden is the “absolute stud” that is expected at Kentucky and Jones didn’t answer the question 🧐

Well I, for one, don't want the portal discussion to be put in a single thread. What makes this message board the best is the volume of varied basketball related posts and the number of posters with legitimate basketball takes. We can handle posts about everything basketball related from the game yesterday, our current players and guys who have entered the portal. It’s all ok. As I’m sure has been said before, just skip over those posts about portal players. Your personal preference not to see those is fine, but irrelevant and immaterial to others who do enjoy reading about potential player options (even if they don’t become a UK player). Some of the players entering the portal are such a big deal and maybe particularly a fit for what UK needs next season that many may think they deserve their own thread to discuss their pros and cons. Besides, what harm is this doing to you and why should your preferences dictate? Just seems a little weird to me. Start more posts about, for example, how great Carr’s under the radar play was yesterday, etc. We can all participate in those discussions as well without any sweat.
Question - would you be fine if I started a separate thread for EVERY player that enters the portal? If I recall, that means there will be thousands.

Triply said it’s UK, Louisville, UNC, and wva. I do agree with you thought, I think Kentucky has a really good chance to get Josh dix
I’m hearing that due to personal reasons, Dix will remain close to home . They think he would be a great fit if CMP could pull it off though. Kentucky, Creigton, Kansas, with a chance of staying at Iowa depending on the new coach.

If we get a visit then I think that’s a really good sign we can get him. I mentioned this last night but im watching Ryan Conwell now. His coach just left, he is a bucket, and he would move up to my 2nd portal want after a good PG

Well....hard to say what coach and staff will be looking for UNLESS they already know who is leaning toward leaving.
THIS crew he seemed to balance character as much as proven ability. AND there have been some shocks: Oweh was not supposed to be a scoring threat, neither was Butler or Williams. Just what I had picked up from early chatter and videos this was going to be Andrew Carr/ Jaxson Robinson show.
I don't think there was ANY plan for the 3 freshmen to see playing time. Brea was I think intended to stay around the 3 line forever. Robinson was to be a consistent point producer.

Instead, we have what we have.

To me it shows how adaptable not only this staff but also these players have been.
Really amazing stuff that this team as it is will be playing for a spot in the 8.

I understand an know that there are a Lotta naysayers and some legit negatives...but for me this has been coach of the year stuff.

Holy crap Im getting old Anquan Boldin Jr?

Anquan Boldin's son is a college basketball player. I need this aging shit to stop, yesterday. Obviously has nothing to do with UK recruiting. Just a name from the past.

You remember that player for Auburn who returned the missed FG against bama in 2013 Chris Davis. He has a son who is junior in high school right now. That one made me feel old
