Towles will come back from this

Noting that PT isn't great and not improving or even advocating a switch doesn't mean anyone doesn't support him when he plays. What would not supporting him accomplish?

Bounces back with a really good game against Mizzou. Cats win against the tigers!
I like your optimism. The problem is that the Mizzou defense is going to probably have upward of 6 sacks in the game (if significant blocking and play call changes are not made). Our tackles need help on the edges, and Towles often tries to run out of the pocket to his right rather than step up and finish his progressions. That makes the job for our line even more difficult.

Towles has had the potential to be a good one, but he just doesn't have the mental aspects of the game down. When pressured, he also seems to really struggle with accuracy. I am not sure that is something you can fix in a Jr QB.

I really do hope that Towles can find a groove. The rest of our season really does depend on it.

Our fans won't tho...theyll put him under a magnifying glass. Next incomplete pass they will erupt.

Towles is what he is. He was overhyped by the media. He is prone to mistakes. On paper, is exactly the type of QB that NFL teams are looking for. In reality, he lacks the intangibles to ever be a great QB. I say that being one of the people that doesn't think he should be replaced. Until there is an o-line in place, a pocket passer is going to be destroyed. If Barker is the future, it would be nice if he kept his head.

Agree with most of this. Only disagree with the OL - they aren't great but they are serviceable...they will give up a couple sacks a game, but with Towles the number at least doubles because of his slow progressions and decision making. I'd also insert Barker to get his feet wet, and if there isn't much difference I'd let him run with the rest of the season.

You know, I've been thinking about this a bit and after hearing from some people that Barker is fairly mobile himself, I've sort of come around. I remember last year, Tennessee's o-line looked awful early in the season. They inserted Joshua Dobbs and their o-line instantly looked better, partly because he was mobile, but also because he read coverages more quickly. I'm not saying that Barker would work, but sometimes the QB can make the o-line right. It couldn't hurt to try if the offense continues to struggle under Towles.

do you have any analysis that points to this or are you just full of hope and giggly sunshine ?

Honestly I have to ask bounces back to what? average? Will an average Towles beat Mizzou? I don't know. By now I feel he's a Michael Porter (not the underage thing) from basketball, he may have a good game occasionally but his skills are not good enough to compete with the better teams. and our coach is in love with him so he'll play forever.
He's a fanboy. He's been all PT - all the time since before last year. I don't mind positivity, but he seems nonobjective about PT, like he's personally invested in PT's success as a QB.

By the way a basketball reference was the best way to go since basically we know what it takes to be great at basketball and Porter was not it, but we have no idea first hand what it takes to be great at football following UK unless you watch the other SEC teams closely

Pat, give 'em all a nice big $&()burger to eat!

Until Stoops demotes him he is our qb. Right or wrong I'm supporting the guy the coach puts out there.
Critical thinking isn't your strong suit, huh?

I don't know where the judgment of Towles taking too long comes from. Yes, on some plays he stands in there and might still take a sack, but most of the sacks come from complete whiffs by the OL. The interception in the USC game, Towles had zero time to set his feet. The Baker dropped pass in the FL game, Towles is hit in the head just moments after finishing his drop. The first sack he gets hit quickly (although he did mess up by not going forward on that one). The second sack in the FL game he is again flushed from the pocket before he can set his feet. Most of them are that way. These aren't coverage sacks. They are almost all OL breakdowns.

When has Towles ever set his feet? He's doing the football equivalent of an Irish Jig in the pocket. I'm surprised the Band doesn't join in.
