Towles was the hero tonight

No one was harder on the kid after the Florida game but I give the young man props tonight. The defense was in his face all night. He came back in the 2nd half and played lights out. Rough game for the Cats but a win is a win. One step closer to being bowl eligible. Now fix those holes on both the offensive and defensive line. Best to put this one behind us and get ready for Auburn.

I got on him the whole game but honestly it's just frustration with a pathetic oline tonight and pathetic effort by everyone. He came through, hell the whole team came through when they decided they wanted to win the game.

Hard to get too excited about eeking out a win over EKU, but barely winning is better than barely losing by a long shot.

I just shake my head and laugh at the people who abuse Towles. He's not perfect...has a tendency to throw high and behind receivers on the over the middle stuff. But come on...our real problems tonight were on the offensive line. EKU won the battle on the line of scrimmage most of the night. We had a QB and receivers who made enough big plays to keep us from getting embarrassed. We need to structure our offense to capitalize on our big play potential. We've proven we can't run the ball effectively on standard downs to sustain long drives against good defenses.

Towles made some plays when we needed them down the stretch but I wouldn't say he was lights out. I don't have anymore or less confidence in him than I did before the game. We lose this game against a decent team.

The phrase in bold is critical to the success and consistency of an offense. This is what really good QB's do routinely. Our struggles tonight were a lot more than Towles inconsistency but he didn't help until we had to have it. I give him credit for doing what needed to be done down the stretch but we shouldn't have been in that position to begin with.

Yeah, so frustrating watching an OVC quarterback have all the time he wants and then Towles running for his life 1 second after the snap

Not a good performance. Lucky to win. They have time to rest up and get healthy. Maybe refocus a bit with basically two weeks off

The bye week appears to have come at EXACTLY the right time, and Auburn is vulnerable

I'll admit our Oline was hilariously bad, but you gotta just make a play, that's what the greats do, I'm not saying Barker could have done better, I'm saying Towles needs to be consistent.

Dy'shawn Mobely was our MVP - his brain fart in OT put them in a huge hole - had they scored a TD, you can bet your azz they would've gone for 2, like WKU a few years back.

Towles threw for 330 yds. 3 TDs.
The End.

& 2 INT's

Reality is.. he seems to always take a few steps forward but looks to lose any confidence he may of gained the next game.... IDK what it is, but to me he does not look comfortable on a consistent basis & if you can't play "relaxed" against EKU then there's a bit of a worrisome factor to me. He needs to play the first 5 min like he played the last 5 minutes. These flat starts, 3 & outs with no momentum gets old. Very lucky to walk away with a win. Stats don't tell the entire story.

May be one of the most ignorant posts I've ever read on here... And that's tough to do.

You must not be here much.

I've been here for years... Just mostly lurk and do most of my talking to JR on Twitter, but some of these Towles apologists who think he can do nothing wrong, then call for people to "eat crow" really rub me the wrong way

Wait, what? All the dump passes and screens makes Towles a hero? How about some great catches by our WRs and YAC? Towles was not the hero.

The 45 yard pass to Bone was a dump pass? The TD pass to Badet was a dump pass?

Had he played, Barker surely would have only throw 20 yard lasers downfield...completing all of them....and would have had 5 TD passes. no INTs. And we'd all be discussing how bad we crushed EKU tonight.

But...instead - we get to discuss how horrible Towles is as the starting QB for a 4-1 football team.

We're not talking about Barker! You're the only one bringing him up. The rest of us are talking about how you, and your buddies, think Towles can do no wrong and that he was a hero this game... That's funny

"Towles apologists". What a joke. I think we are just supporting the QB of our 4-1 football team.

No one says he can do no wrong. I'm personally just sick of some fans begging for Barker (who has yet to play a college snap) at the first mistake Towles makes every game.

I think people stick up for Towles because he can do no right in the "Play Barker" crowd (your crowd). Critique everything he does.

If he throws a TD pass, it's b/c the WR made a great play on a bad pass. If he gets sacked, it's b/c he didn't step up in the pocket. If a WR gets hurt, it's Towles fault. If the defense gives up 27 it's b/c PT didn't keep the offense on the field long enough. It's a F@&kin joke.

And sorry if you can't see it, but UK is 4-1 with PT as the starter. But of course, if Barker was the starter we'd be 5-0 and ranked top 10 at this point....

I don't doubt that, but in the history of stupid posts on the board, that one isn't even in the bottom half. Patrick has all the tools. That is what frustrates me. To kwilt, our resident cheerleader, yes PT had 330 yards and 3 TD's, but in truth, he should have had 500 and 5. He did play well when it was all on the line though. Everyone did. That seems to be pretty consistent with PT, everyone needs to be doing well for him to be in any kind of groove. His happy feet make him very inaccurate at times.

Sure buddy. If you are bashing Towles...then who do you want as the QB?? It's pretty obvious....

People sticking up for Towles is a direct response to people calling for his head so Barker can play.

I mean...people don't bitch about the starting QB unless they want the backup to play.

Wrong, I want the starting QB, to play better. Idc who it is. If Towles can't get it done then next man up. I want them to lead receivers. I want them to throw the ball away instead of taking sacks or risky throws, I want them to plant their feet and step up into the pocket and make a throw. I want them to go thorough their progressions. Not too much to ask of a redshirt JR.

But you don't know what any of that means. You see a halfway decent box score at the end of the game and think we had Monana at the helm. No room for discussion or for improvement

We beat a shitty team tonight and Towles was completely bailed out on bad throws yet again. He's an OK quarterback who needs to do lots of running and less throwing. He was almost handed his ass by freakin eastern tonight and some of you want to pat him on the back.

The whole team needs to answer for this then move on. But Towels wasn't anything other than inconsistent like he always is. Some people just look for reasons to pump him but he's just what he is.

The same box score says we won tonight, right?

I don't give a shit about stats. I only care about Ws and Ls. UK is 4-1, yet we have a portion of the fan base pissed b/c they think our QB is solely responsible for barely beating EKU.

Lol.

Question. What is your definition of inconsistent as far as QB play is concerned?

anyone looking at it for what it is can see Towles wasn't some savior tonight. He didn't give up, but he's a good but of the problem in games like this. He sucks in the pocket and has terrible accuracy within 20 yards. He has no feel for defenders near him. He doesn't own his position on the feild either, he just walks off the field with no emotion after every screwup or uninspired offensive set.

I will give this though. If Barker can't beat out Patrick, maybe he shouldn't be playing. Patrick, although I love the guy, couldn't beat out a competent quarterback in this league.

Not solely responsible for the close game. Badet's fumble was huge and if there was a huge contingent on here after every game pumping him up, I would point out his flaws.

As a matter of fact, when my buddy was texting me about Baker being the 2nd coming (and he was tonight) I reminded him of the HUGE drops against USC and Florida.

Everyone can improve and I'm not going to always dog anyone, or always pump sunshine for anyone. I'm going to give it to you, and everyone else, straight

No, but he's the leader of this team, and those around him seem so uninspired in games like this. He doesn't do much to change the tide. He's a quarterback, we need him to be more than just "another position" like some of his strongest supporters suggest.

PT IS THE MAN BECAUSE I LIKE PT AND HE THREW FOR 300 YARDS AND LIKES HARRY POOTER AND HAS GREAT HAIR. TP WILL LEAD US TO THE FINAL FOUR AND I JUST DON'T SEE WHY WE AREN'T RANKED!!!??? TP FOR PRESIDENT!!!!!!

So 330 yards, 70% passing and 3 TDs is inconsistent. Gotcha.

EASTERN!

We were playing scrub NOBODIES and the guy needed to be down by 2 touchdowns at HOME to pick his f'ing head up and get moving. Do you know how many quarterbacks could throw 300 plus against the defense you saw tonight? It's not as simple as the box score for patrick. He needs to be a LEADER. He's not even close.

Against a DECENT power 5 defense he doesn't do half of what he was able to do tonight. I understand we won, Im glad, I'm on Patricks side, but he's got to do better than he's doing. period.

no one was the hero tonight, if anyone it was cj johnson. period

Lots of those deep passes were not a result of a good throw. Our receivers bailed towels out all game. Looking at a Box Score for a quarterback against a team like this is NOT the way you evaluate what actually happened.
