Self is 30-5 when he has 5 days to prepare for an opponent in the tourney
I don't think that that stat will have much bearing on tonight's game though really.
Nova has equal talent and experience. Duke may have had more potential talent, and the refs in their pocket, but Nova can fill the basket from behind the 3 point line nearly as well as KU- an area they have a distinct advantage over just about 99.9% of the rest of CBB.
For KU to be successful, they are going to have to dictate pushing the tempo to a faster pace, and create turnovers. Nova has a surprisingly slow as molasses offensive tempo & possessions per 40 minutes average.
If the officials call a tight whistle, it will definitely hurt KU's chances far greater absent one of KU's deep threats going off like Newman did against Duke, or Nova has a really off night shooting the ball.
The hilarity of Duke fans crying about the refs in last week's game knows no bounds in dripping with irony.
Speaking of the refs, I saw on twitter a discussion about the refs when KU & Nova played in the tournament in 2016, and the suspect calls that eventually led to Graham fouling out.
One of the KU beat writers did a write up and gif'd the calls.

All 5 calls against him were questionable at best, and 4 of them were in the midst of Nova turning over the ball.
From a 3rd party objective view I think 2 of them were maybe legit even if they weren't definitive.
Pretty big deal when it costs you one of your most important perimeter players; not to mention those negated turnovers could be 12 - 18 point swing in the score, and even if you were being super conservative, that's at minimum 6 points!
Hopefully it's a good game, and I honestly think it's a push matchup. If they played 10 times, it wouldn't shock me to see each team end up winning 5 outta 10.
The tempo and how tightly the game is called IMO is going to be the best predictor of the likely outcome.
I still think people are sleeping on Michigan far too much, as if it's a done deal that the Nova / KU winner will win the championship. And, if Loyola is playing Monday, I definitely wouldn't count them out. Clearly 5 other teams that are supposed to be more talented made that same mistake, and in a single elimination tournament after 5 games in, there's more than just dumb luck at play in advancing that far.
Hopefully they are awesome games and some good basketball to watch!
