Titles?...Duke Vs UK

This. I mean I get what others are saying kinda , but cmon ... pretend Cal has been at UK for 30 plus years ? Pretty sure he'd have a few more titles.

It doesn't seem fair to compare a 30 plus year body of work at Duke to 9 year body of work with Cal at UK
I'm not ...aren't we comparing history of the programs... Ucla, Puke and KENTUCKY?

37 years 5 titles. Cal 8 years 1 title. 37 years at duke getting very preferential treatment with tourney sites and whistles.
Cal trudging through years at places like UMASS and Memphis. Gimme a break. The phony has been at a bluelbood program eating like a king. Cal had to fight and scrap for everything.
Had Cal been at UK 15-20 years, the title count would be higher no doubt.

This. This. Surely people are intelligent enough to understand this?

Maybe...

Cal should be here 15-20 yrs...hopefully you are right.

It's hard to win titles.

They are going to be very good in the upcoming years.......so will we tho and a couple other teams.

2 since 2010. The same time Cal is assembling the most talented teams he ever has.

Ok so he has exactly 1 more title than Cal in the same time span. Omg!!!!! Lol really ?

But I remember you saying that basically every single other college basketball program and coach are underachieving . Only Duke and coach K are considered "top tier"

No offense man, but I honestly don't even think you realize how absolutely absurd you sound when you give your "opinions"

I mean, I still have love for ya because it's EVER so apparent you're a die hard Cats fan...

What's absurd is we should have won it both times they did, plus a few more.

I can so tell you are true blue UK fan . It's ever so refreshing

So what is a true blue UK fan supposed to say? Honestly, you guys can't take anything other than UK is the best at everything. It's amazing. Someone could say "UNC won the title last season" just making a simple statement of fact and you would say "see, you're not a UK fan!!" Why? Because I named who won the title last season?

Nah man, you ARE a true blue UK fan :) that's what I'm saying. I know myself, as well as many many others on this here board agree. Your fandom is unparalleled bud. Really, it is.
I'd love to have a beer with ya and discuss all things cats ! It would be pretty amazing I think. I always enjoy hearing other avid UK fans such as yourself, opinions / thoughts on UK basketball

Well considering you "work from home" I would imagine you have plenty of time for a beer, or a joint, or whatever it is you do.

Why the personal, insinuating insults brother ? No need to get all bent out of shape. I mean... don't worry, I don't think any less of you as a *person or anything. Honestly .. it's cool. I really don't look down on you bud.

Yessss I do "work from home!" . (I remember that thread but you never commented so it's super cool that you screen shot my comment to remember. I do feel somewhat special ?

But ya, Been running our Own business for the past 3 years or so. We also have a store front/ office. After working in the mortgage business for years its kinda refreshing to "be your own boss" , the market for our business is only growing too!
Since you seem intrigued , and are hinting that I... don't work? Lol and just chill and smoke weed and drink Colt 45's all day (and two zig zags... baby that's all we neeeeed!") I'll give ya a brief rundown
We're far from millionaires or anything but we make a pretty good living. Enough to send kids to private school, take a couple vacations a year, have reliable vehicles , buy my wife and kids nice clothes, toys etc when need be. Put a large chunk of $ in cash down for a house thus making the monthly mortgage super affordable ... Comfortable " id say. Incredibly blessed. I try to remind myself to stay humbled because we've been under financial distress before (as many others have) when I was laid off twice in a 1 year span a few years ago. I'm so happy you remembered :) it shows we're really bonding

Also... do people who work not have time to drink a beer ? Lol... that seems like a ... innocent but uneducated thing to presume ? I'm pretty sure most guys on here work for a living and enjoy a beer now and again. But honestly , not really a big beer drinker anymore. Every now and then, but I'd make an exception for you my fellow UK brethren.

Would much prefer a J to be honest :)

That being said, again my friend... I never meant to upset you and get inside your head so severely. I'm SO very genuine when I say I respect your ultimate UK fandom. I really do.

Ehh my occupational life story is much more than that. Think of it as a prologue so to speak. I mean I had to delve a little into it as your absurd notion about drinking beer/ smoking joints etc means "no job" lol (classic example of insecurity and finger pointing :/ ) But yeah bud, definitely in your head. However it honestly was not my intention. You should absolutely have more confidence in yourself man. You are important. Truly you are.

Cheers mate ! :)

... since Cal got here.... We've had the most talent how many times and come up snake eyes?

Answer: ONCE - 2015. Although 2015 had 2-3 other really, really good teams that could (and one did) easily beat UK on any given day. I guess you could also argue that the 2010 team (i.e., the 2009-2010 season) was the best that year, but that's pretty debatable and I think that team was always a little more vulnerable than you would expect the "best team" to be.

Fascinating stuff, guys. I got lost and, with all the Duke talk here, I assumed this was a Duke board. So... allow me to chime in on a few points discussed in this thread. To the OP: no, in all likelihood, Duke is not going to catch up to UK any time soon, if ever. That said, Duke and Kentucky have both been recruiting at a very high clip recently. But, getting the recruits is only the first step. You have to have chemistry. Last year's Duke team lacked that. We had it, like you, in 2015. And trust me... I wanted that epic battle between UK and Duke in the finals as much as you did. Wisconsin? Meh... who wanted to see that? Honestly, you guys probably matched up better against Duke than Wisconsin. Who knows? But, saying we had an easier road is kinda beneath you guys, right?

As many of your fans have said, why get so bent out of shape when Duke gets a great recruit? Why buy into the narrative that Duke gets preferential treatment but that somehow, the world is shitting on Kentucky? Dude. You're Kentucky! The world is surely not shitting on you, refs are not making all the close calls against you. While it might gall you that other schools out there get preferential treatment from the refs, you at least have to be self-aware enough to realize that you get that same love.

Also, what's with all the Duke threads over here? That's crazy, right? You all have a great program and are one of the teams who has a legit shot at winning it each and every year. I think the guy who said that you all are coming off like jealous ex-girlfriends hit closest to the mark. I mean... it's kinda cool that you all think of us a lot. So really... thanks! It's good to be talked about.

First of all, you didn't get "lost" nor did you honestly "think this was a Duke board" don't be dramatic.
The Duke threads as of late are ridiculous and 90% of the fan base on this board agrees. We have a few resident "UK fans" who jump on the chance to post anything pro Duke when it seems as if UK "lost something " (bagley , Reddish etc )

That being said , the Duke board (when it's not crickets ) has had more than it's fair share of UK threads right smack dab on their 1st page.

Also, it's not an excuse per say, but seeing you act as if Duke doesn't get preferential treatment from refs, NCAA , selection committee etc is laughable. Pretty much every fan base in America agrees.

Duke, while a top tier program = fake news

You want to hear something amazing?

Cal fought the refs, the selection committee, whatever NCAA uses for an accreditation board, and 350+ other teams for eight years and did ALMOST as well in terms of titles, and BETTER in terms of absolutely everything else, than K who fought a few weak handpicked teams personally selected for him during that same time period, with most of those other forces fighting for him on his side, and still often came up empty against the likes of LEHIGH.

To me that is fricking amazing.

This is not a neck and neck race. And this is not a race where K has doubled Cal's output. This is a race where Cal has wiped the floor with K's face, but doesn't have as much as he should to show for it because so much of the show is rigged.

Just because everyone agrees does not make a thing true. All fan bases suffer from confirmation bias. All of them. Kentucky benefits from being "Kentucky" just as Duke benefits from being Duke. This is the nature of things. If Cal does something shady, Kentucky fans will be quick to excuse it, just as Duke fans will overlook Krzyzewski's discrepancies. The sad truth is that, at this level... and with this level of money on the line... there's a lot of things that get overlooked. Think UNC will get the death bell? Think again. Like Duke and Kentucky, the NCAA won't let them fall too hard.

Disagree on the point with UK...I think they would LOVE to catch Cal at something and would bury UK.

If you think that Kentucky wouldn't have been punished by the NCAA for some of the same stuff that has happened at Duke, then you live in La La Land. There's not a chance the NCAA would have looked the other way if the things like Lance Thomas, Cory Maggette, and Chris Duhon's mother had happened here. Also there is zero chance Duval and Bagley would be eligible if they had came to UK. The truth is Duke and UNC are protected by the NCAA, on and off the court , while everyone else gets punished. Heck your screen name even shows what Duke gets away with on the court.

K will be done at Duke before they get to 8 and Cal will be done at UK before we get to 11. I would say the o/u for K winning more titles before he retires is 1.5. Calipari at Kentucky...2.5.

Ok, can you honestly sit here and say UK has had anywhere near as favorable a draw in the tourney the last several years? Cmon man...

Also? Bagley , Corey M, lance thomas ....

The constant slurping by media ... literally never any condemning, accusations etc directed towards Duke.

I mean it is what it is, and if you're a Duke fan it's awesome I guess. But a spade is a spade. Trying to act as if Duke isn't the NCAA / medias darling is ridiculous.

Same here.

It can be an interesting debate; predicting how many more titles certain coaches will win. Tugs at the heart strings for some. Really brings out their sensitivity. None of us really know. The landscape of college basketball is ever-changing. Just when certain coaches think they have it figured out, it changes. Then it changes again. In the words of Billy Beane "adapt or die".

I based my o/u for Cal on anticipating that he remains at UK for at least the next ten years. And that is a huge assumption considering the NBA constantly calling, the wear and tear that the job does to him and his overall energy and motivation to have to start from scratch at the beginning of every season. But I look at a guy like K who won titles in the 90s, had one in the early 2000s and then has had two recent titles (both should have been ours) after several years of coming up short. And sometimes in very embarrassing losses. I look at guy like Tom Brady who won three championships in four years. Then spent the better part of a decade being an annual Super Bowl favorite only to not find his way back. And now when people were assuming he was beginning to decline he has won two more titles. The longer these guys stick around, the better the chance is that they add to their trophy case. Cal has made us a contender every year he has been at UK aside from the 2012-13 team which seemed doomed from the start. The longer he stays at UK with the system he has put in place, given the fact that we are year in and year out a title contender, the more likely it is that he gets another ring (or two).

You may be right that it's more practical to put his o/u at 1. A lot of our heartbreaking losses could be put on him. We've certainly had the talent to win. The maturity/experience? Not always. But I can guarantee that Cal wants to prove the he doesn't need a generational player like AD to win a championship. He will still get a top 2 recruiting class and turn boys in to men in less than a year, set them up for the rest of their foreseeable futures and in return get another ring for himself.

.. just know that Duke's sun is setting. We can debate all we want about who had better runs and this that and the other thing. But one thing is for sure: Duke is Coach K, not the other way around. When his time is done it's going to be a huge wakeup call for those fans and what they have come to expect.

Enjoy it, because you'll never have anything like Coach K again.
