With the #1 pick in the NFL Draft, then Tennessee Titans should draft...?

I shake my head everytime I see a pundit suggest the Titans should take either Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders. This is not a good QB class, neither are ready to step right in, and I don't expect either to have the best QB career out of this draft. My money would be on Jaxson Dart or Will Howard to have a better career over Ward or Sanders. Titans need to roll with Levis one more year and hope he turns a corner, draft best available, maybe get a QB in the 3rd/4th, and then see what happens if somebody like Arch Manning is within reach next year.

I personally think they should try to trade down and accumulate more picks. Abdul Carter seems to be a popular choice among draft analysts, but the Titans have to build around so many needs.

What are your thoughts, Titans fans?

Trade back for a haul.

No obvious generational talent and franchise changing QBs.

If they absolutely want a QB they can get on probably late first early second.

Trade back for a haul....if one doesn't present itself....then draft Travis Hunter and play him both ways....he's the best player in the draft.

With their awful OL and very limited weapons, drafting a QB #1 does NOT solve the problem. Could Ward or Sanders be marginally better than Levis - yes. Would they hold up to the pounding they'll absorb?

I would trade back, draft some OL, pick up WRs, TEs, backs who can catch later in the draft or in FA and roll with Will one more year. New OC, so maybe he'll simplify the reads so that WL doesn't hold the ball too long and take hits. Obviously he's got the arm talent. The game just hasn't slowed down for him yet (it may never - it's happened to other QBs). But, like others have said, I don't see either Ward or Sanders being THE piece the Titans need to make the playoffs this coming season. They have a LOT of holes and subjecting your 'franchise', #1 overall QB to constant pounding week-in, week-out is not a solution. Once the Titans have plugged many of the holes on offense re: OL and playmakers, then adding a franchise QB makes sense. Honestly, it could turn out that, with the right pieces around him (see: Wandale when WL was at UK), Will could become a solid, mid-tier NFL QB.

BTW, I wouldn't draft Sanders if he fell to the second round. I would not want to put up with his and Prime's BS and interference into how I run the team and the offense. That's just me. Plus, I recognize that he's good but I'm not convinced he's as good as he thinks nor as good as his draft status might indicate. He still has quite a bit of development to go through, imo.

Whatever they got to do to fix the OL. No one could be successful behind that OL. Doesn't matter if you had playmakers at WR or RB they aren't going to do anything behind that line.

I hope they get the kid from Penn St, but the Titans are typically way below average in decision making in the draft. I would expect them to reach for a mediocre QB or get someone projected as a late 1st rounder with the 1st pick.

They do things like drafting good offensive guards with hopes of them turning into great tackles.

Draft Ward. If you don’t have a franchise QB forget about being a contender. I have no idea if Ward is that, if he isn’t draft another one next year. Levis doesn’t have it upstairs to be an NFL starter.

I believe that's very risky. Ward is not seen as a franchise guy, really no QB in this draft is, and, if you miss on your first round pick, it's generally a year or two to recover. Denver tried for many years to find/trade/sign the next John Elway and missed the playoffs many years in a row. Wasted a lot of early picks and draft capital trying to find 'the' guy. You may not win a SB without a great QB but you can make a lot of playoffs with an above average QB and a very solid roster. Even if the Titans draft a guy who IS a franchise QB, who is gonna block for him? Who will he throw to? As we saw in this year's SB, even a generational QB like Mahomes looks very pedestrian if the rush is in his jock every play and he doesn't have playmakers to throw to. IMO, the Titans have so many holes that 'fixing' the QB issue is minor. They need OL, DL and playmakers to surround their franchise QB. Just my $0.02.

I don't think they expect to be a contender any time soon. They can't afford to draft a QB with a high likelihood of not being ready right away because these teams will just discard their draft pick after 1 season now.

I could see them signing somebody like Daniel Jones to short-term deal, TBH. That would be better than Ward as terrible as it sounds.

If I were the Titans, I would work a trade with the Bengals to reunite Callahan with Jake Browning. He is barely making above $1 million in 2025 and that is a bargain. Frankly, thought they should have made the trade last year. Jake impressed me when he took over for Burrow in 2023 after the injury. Tennessee needs to address their offensive line of course. Already have one of his old receivers with Tyler Boyd, Ridley and a young TE in Chig Okonkwo who showed some glimpses down the stretch.

Callahan would probably like to have him, but I think Browning exceeds his trade value to the Bengals. Would he be worth more than 7th-round pick swap?

They just would not be able to replace what they could get in return at the same cost because he makes minimum wage for his experience level, knows the offense, and he has game experience and rapport with the rest of the offense.

I am explicitly looking at it from the Tennessee perspective since this is a Titans thread for potential fits. No, I would not trade Browning for a 7th rounder with his barely above $1 million contract. The Bengals wouldn't have much motive from their end to trade their inexpensive, reliable backup without an enticing deal for them. Especially with Burrow's injury history, so he likely finishes out his contract in CIN. He is the subject of trade talks during these past two offseasons from fans who covet a cheap QB that has shown some potential. We'll see what Tennessee does at Quarterback for 2025. Browning eventually leaving on his own for a chance to start as a free agent down the road is not a crazy suggestion if the QB situation does not get resolved.

I appreciate the opinions that you have shared in the two threads. What do you think the Titans should do with Levis?

They signed Dan Moore to be one of their LT, but everybody I have heard say they overpaid for him due to the scarcity among the available talent. I didn't realize this, but he also apparently lead the league in sacks allowed. Yikes!

Moore was definitely an expensive signing for Tennessee no doubt. Ranked 141st of 165 qualified starters in pressure rate allowed in 2024. He is an interesting case. 5 of his 12 sacks came against Garrett & Hendrickson alone, plus Anderson in the North in BAL. I would say you are right about why they gave him $82 million with the options available at the position and Tennessee gave up 52 sacks as a team. Dan is durable, playing 1,111 offensive snaps for Pitt and gave up a sack once every 92.6 snaps. Latham moving back to his natural RT, a position that gave up 29 sacks last year. 10 of Moore's 12 sacks and 27 of his 41 pressures came from Week 10 on against much tougher opponents protecting Wilson. As far as Levis, he needs to be in a situation he can develop with protection up front if he is going to make it as a starting QB in this league. I hope that place is Tennessee if they can field a good enough offensive line to protect him. In all fairness to Will, no QB was going to be successful with the Titans O-Line. I honestly don't believe the QBs in this draft class would fare any better than Levis. Focus on adding depth to the O-Line through the draft still and role with Will for another season is what I would do. If the O-Line play isn't better, it is all just pissing in the wind unfortunately and another QB will struggle too.
