Time for Pitino to retire.

You all definitely have the talent to go far now. You just better hope Cal doesn’t get into a game he has to make adjustments if his talent is getting stopped. That was our biggest gripe. If you get games where DJ and Fland can run the same weave or Screen over and over then you will win. As soon as a team figures out Cal goes under every screen on defense and they knock down some shots it could be trouble.
Agree, Tech is gonna zone us and they are tough, can shoot, and I don’t expect us to win this game.

Let me see over 40 years since st johns has done anything relevant and not 1 player will play in the NBA nice try COACH God what a dumb take 🙄
So you agree with taking out the Big East player of the year the last 5 mins of the game? You agree with not going zone to force them to take 3s. I guess you taught me something - you can't win in the tourney unless you have NBA players and have been relevant. Now who has the dumb take???

I get the feeling that Pitino won’t quit until he has to for health reasons. I don’t see him as someone to just pick up a hobby and fiddle around the house. It’s in his blood and I don’t think he would be happy doing anything else. Just one of the best coaching minds period and he could have accomplished so much more.

Basically Pitino made no in-game adjustments.
That was always my complaint about Rick. He’s always been a master of scouting and pre-game preparation, the best basketball coach I’ve ever seen in that regard. He consistently has/had a stellar Plan A for every opponent, but on those occasions when it wasn’t working, there never seemed to be any Plan B at all.

Cal didn’t sit he star player. Basically Pitino made no in-game adjustments. At least Cal seemed he was watching the game. I have no idea where Pitino’s head was.
Pitino has always been outstanding with pregame preparation, not so much in game adjustments.

Pitino seems to be in good health.

He obviously still has the passion to coach.

He resurrected the St John’s program.

No reason to retire unless he just wants to be done.

College basketball is a mess. But it’s better with Rick Pitino in it.

When you get “out coached” by Cal you know you are washed up. He basically said in the post game comments he gave up on his star player with 5 mins in the game. He’s the one that got them there! Kept jacking up 3s never taking advantage at the end of the first half of Arky foul trouble.
Maybe this board can finally move on from Ricky. Would have been a legend and wished he stayed but was shocked on how he coached today
Is Pitino the better coach?

Not so much what Cal did but what Pitino didn’t do that got him outcoached. He didn’t run zone for a team that couldn’t throw it in the ocean from deep.
Wonder why every team doesn’t play zone if it was that easy? Kansas ran zone and they didn’t beat cal

He took this roster

to a 31-5 record and 2-seed. Why tf would he retire. He's clearly still a great coach. That coach who "outcoached" him had the more talented team and they are finally starting to play the last month or so more like they should have all season.

Clearly one of the better coaching jobs in his storied career.

Truthfully I could say any coach going against Pitino that day would not have set his best player, therefore I stated he was out coached. Pitino I think is a much better coach than Cal could hope to be but I think during this game he let his emotions override common sense. As we get older many people react more negative to situations and become more stubborn. I think he took his frustration out on his best player having a bad game. But I have no idea why any coach would not have went zone considering how poor Akry was at 3s and how Kansas made their comeback. I don't think we will ever see post wanting Pitino back at UK after that loss. But of course Pope helps squelch that also. :)

Understand.
I must be an exception.
I'm 73 and pretty much mellowed out .

Man, some of you guys have such PTSD from the Cal years you are blinded - you refuse to give credit even when it's obviously due. How about this: his leading scorer missed the game entirely, his second leading scorer got 6 points, he beat a 2 seed as a 10 seed and 2 freshmen led the way. He had his team playing tough minded and resilient and they didn't fade at all under Pitino's pressure. The dude has won almost 900 games, he has 6 final fours and a title, and was a first ballot hall of famer while still in his 50s, something less than 10 coaches in history can say. He wore out his welcome here, he's lost his fastball, was coasting and should have left at 10 years as he always said he would. I understand the hard feelings. But he's one of the best coaches ever (that's what hall of fame means) - and if you say that's only because of recruiting i) recruiting is part of coaching and in fact the most important part and ii) you didn't pay attention to the first half of his career. All of this "he's a terrible coach" stuff is dumb.

We have a great coach now! Don't understand the continued pre-occupation with John Calipari. He's Arkansas' issue now........
