This team is underrated

Looking at the parts individually you would not say we are favorites to make a splash this year. How parts fit together is amazing and makes together with the coaching staff and BBN a force to reckon with. The team maturity and understanding of the game is off the charts and their are empowered by Coach Pope already. Calipari had teams that had a lot of talent ht never figured it out. This team has already figured it out.
Players are growing and developing right before our eyes.

If after the first month was Butler and Carr now you can see OO , JR and Garrison stepping up both from playing but also from maturity and speaking up. If you thought the Duke win was a fluke , the Gonzaga win under the special circumstances of that game should make you a believer.

I admit , at the begging of the season, I was not sold on going far in the tournament , thinking that Pope was over promoting . As long as we stay healthy this team will be in the final 4 and win number 9. Smart kids and Pope injected them with the a Kentucky virus. The Kentucky spirit is living in this team. They are on a mission to get better individually and as a team and to bring number 9. The tradition has been reinstated. Enjoy the ride , BBN!

Nationally, probably so. In sec play - who knows. Its a monster league and a very good team can easily have 10+ losses.

The league is so good, i don't think anyone yet knows how to consider its unprecedented quality.

They can only be underrated by 4 spots
I was not referring to ranking, at this point they are meaningful just for seeding, I was referring to the TEAM. We didn’t have one since 2012 and 2015.

Carr: “ coaches talked many times about us coming in waves. Regardless of the score this TEAM is relentless “

We didn't have a team in 2017 when we lost to the champs n elite 8 on buzzer beateror 2014 that made the national title game? 2019 in the elite 8 wasn't a team? 2020 won the sec by 3 games wasn't a team?

Not sure I follow you.

Robinson: “ knowing that we can come in and figuring out what is the problem , what is the issue and being able to fix it on the fly like that , it is really cool to see. I have not had a TEAM like that to change things really fast and impact the flow of the game.”

We have more than enough to cut nets.

2014 team was lucky to get there…remember how bad we were and how close some of these wins were .that was more of miracle run that you knew that eventually will end….I never had the feeling that they can win it all.. being in the tournament was a miracle , wining every round was a miracle….

2015 different story. They were on a mission . They had the bitter taste in their mouth. They were deep and experienced and had the young talent. That was a coaching malpractice…..that we didn’t win 9.

2017 had 3 unbelievable players but extremely young . Could not overcome bad coaching and some pro UNC refs.

2012 was talent and experience and right pieces acting as aTEAM .

This year we have a TEAM , including coaches.

How much better can this team get? Most of them are 5th year seniors or grad students, have they maxed out? Wha needs to happen for the team to get better?

Here are some thoughts I have;

We need a bell cow or go to guy who can get a basket when we need one

We need find a way to avoid playing from behind vs quality teams ,In the three games we have had vs good competition we have played from behind 75 or 80 % of the time

We struggle to get open looks in the half court sets ,we are good in transition but way too contested at the 3 point line. If we are going to take 30 3's per game we need more of them to be better shots than we are getting.

So by your logic we were lucky to beat Duke and Gonzaga because we won close games.

I noticed you didn't mention wcs getting hurt in 2014 or poy in 2015.

Point is this team has a long way to go to surpass the teams I mentioned that you dismiss.

There is definitely something special about this team.

It’s a true team and just getting started.

But there’s more to it than that. It’s undefinable but you know it when you see it. 🏀
Yes and you are referring to the “it” factor.
Its the unselfishness, its the help side defense, its the non stop hustle.

We will not lose many and will be an extremely tough out in the Tournament.

If Auburn stays healthy, I see them owning the conference this year. I don't see any weaknesses with Auburn. We will have to go back to shooting 3s like we did when the season started to beat them. Our bigs don't match up with them at all.
