Because of Miami’s size at guard 6’7, 6’7 and 6’5, Adou is going to have to play significant minutes for UK tonight or its going to be a layup drill for the Canes because Cal refuses to Zone.

From what I have seen, this is not the team to zone. They are too good of a 3-point shooting team. Our defense is going to have to step up a notch. I do agree Adou needs to have a great night, but all of our guards are capable of stopping it from being a "layup drill".

its going to be a good game no doubt Hopefully we cause enough tos and hit our 3s.

Our guards are smallish at 6’3, 6’3, 6’3 and 6’5.
UM will take our guards to the basket all night esp with no rim protector for UK.
Would you rather UM shoot contested theees or live in the paint?

Its a no brainer.

But Cal wont zone so we are going to need to play big with Thiero and Burks to stop penetration and thats going to hurt our O.

Why single out Thiero? there are at least 4 players who could be X-factors tonight due to the match-ups that will exist

Because Theiro at 6’8 can matchup with Miami’s big starting five that includes three guys at 6’7 Doc and one at 6’5.

Miami starts Nijel pack 6'0 and Bensley Joseph 6'1 at guard. Their '3' is Wooga Poplar at 6'5 and their '4' is Matthew Cleveland at 6'7.

They are smaller than us at every single position and don't have much of a bench at all. Their 6th man, Casey, gets the same minutes per game as jordan Burks, our 8th man.

Do you honestly believe playing zone against the top 3-point shooting team in the sport is a wise strategy?

ALL players play significant minutes on this team. We really only play 7 1/2.

Id rather them shoot contested threes than have a layup line with 3 6’7 dudes (2 guards) and a 6’5 guard. However, several on the board are saying Im wrong with the size numbers so…
We give up tons of gimmiez and that v teams nowhere near as good as UM.

To me the key matchup of the game it Mitchell vs omeir. Mitchell can step out and hit some threes that will help a lot. omeir is gonna crash the offensive glass heavy tonight and be extremely physical like he always is

Omier is who you are including. He isn't a guard. Mitchell will be on him. He's like a more athletic version of Chuck Hayes or Reid Travis. Grant Williams is a good example also.

There seems to be a serious disconnect here.

An experienced team with good shooters will not be attempting "contested threes" if we play zone. They'll run offense to get the ball in the middle and kick out for wide open looks, just as we've done this year anytime a team has attempted to play zone against us.

You do not zone a team that shoots well at essentially every position and has experienced guards. That's Basketball 101.

I was wondering this same thing when Matt kept saying on KSR that they are bigger and more physical. Like have you actually seen the roster? lol

I’m pretty sure Pack plays a lot and he’s 6’0. The 5 that play 13+mpg are 6’0, 6’2, 6’5, 6’7, 6’7. So the only height advantage they have is the 6’5 guy when we play Wagner, Dillingham and Sheppard together.

Miami is #1 in 3PT FG% and relatively experienced.

I’ve criticized every coach we’ve had since Pitino for refusing to play zone, but doing it in this game would be a disaster.
The team that shoots threes the best ... probably wins.

KY guards have to quit cheating off their man for help defense. Reed might be the worst at this. Feet in the paint and his man is open in the corner. The guards will have to stay with their own man tonight and help defense will have to come from Adou or Tre and that’s it. Can give them open looks or they will hit 12+ 3s on us and we lose.
