anymore.

NickR on KSRadio

"That’s where lightning struck twice and he recruited a two-way player to win the Hesiman Trophy. Only Prime, the last great two-way player, could land Travis Hunter. Trying to recreate this very specific scenario is a fool’s errand."

The same year another great two-way player has been inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame, even. I know it's just one possibly innocent oversight, and I don't read many of their articles, but when I do there always seems to be these mistakes and misstatements. Which is why I don't read many of their articles.

I just wish people knew more about the sports they are covering. It's not like Devin Hester or his induction is a secret. The guy played 3 ways at Miami just like Sanders did at FSU. I don't know how anyone that watches, much less covers, college football wouldn't know that

SMH. Charles Woodson, too.

Because the media companies largely have moved away from the idea of a traditional journalist and towards content generators because that's what gets clicks and views. So thus the schools have gone that way as well.

I didn't know this until I looked at the stats but Woodson only caught 11 passes that Heisman year for 231 yards and 2 TDs. He had one punt return TD as well.

I like Woodson but it's kind of crazy that Peyton Manning didn't win the Heisman. But voters are a prisoner of the moment and Woodson had a punt return TD and an interception in the final regular season game against OSU to finish undefeated.

Manning's stats were nearly identical to Danny Wuerfell's the year prior when he won the Heisman.

If he had led Tennessee to an undefeated regular season, he might have won it. Losing to Florida AGAIN left his Heisman possibilities very vulnerable. The entire season also proved to many that it was Jamal Lewis that was the critical component of the offense. The team lived or died during the regular season mostly on his production, and in games where Peyton struggled, like the one against Vandy, Lewis got them over the line.

As it was, that one game against UF could've put him over the hump, but you're absolutely right about "the moment" when it comes to the press. Almost always about hype over substance. In fact, the UT comeback in the SEC Championship may have boosted Manning into a closer vote than he would've seen otherwise.

Woodson however was clearly the better athlete, no question. He impacted the game in a way Manning couldn't, scoring TDs running, stopping scoring drives with critical picks in the end zone, and made big plays receiving in addition to the punt return in that OSU victory. Woodson also as a defender didn't have the same help Manning did in Jamal Lewis and his receivers.

Manning also didn't have the west coast voting numbers that Woodson did, as the West Coast was watching Ryan Leaf as a QB. Had leaf not had the season he did, maybe Manning wins the Heisman over Woodson, in spite of how great a player Woodson was that year.

JD used to be an objective writer and was not afraid to speak out against UK when necessary. Now, he toes the corp line way too often, like Rowland and others. You would think UK went 12-0 last year if you read their insights throughout the year.
