The Peripheral

Thanks, I'd forgotten about this show. I'll check it out. Based on a novel by William Gibson (basically the godfather of the cyberpunk genre). That's a positive sign. Show is done by the folks who did Westworld on HBO; that's decidedly a mixed sign.

Yeah, Westworld got wonky and a bit redundant. Prime dropped two episodes. The first was good. Will watch the second later this weekend.

The first two seasons of Westworld were some of the best ever produced in my book. Once they left Westworld it steadily declined and was really disappointing. Really one of the worst cases of a show starting brilliantly and by the end you no longer care.

Imo a sign of trying to stretch their content much too far. Should've been a limited series or two seasons at most. As you said, once they left, it got really wacky

Some of these shows get a 1 or 2 year guarantee, but they don’t know if they will get more and it appears sometimes that they don’t know where the show goes beyond the guarantee. And, then, sometimes the writers move on and the original vision is lost.

Yep. Also I think a lot of times the actors get too involved with the development and while they might be great performers are not necessarily good writers.

Yeah I LOVED westworld at first. There was basically zero marketing for season 4 and seems everyone just forgot about the show, I just randomly happened to watch it not long ago...looks like they are gonna keep going

They explored some interesting story lines but it was told in such a convoluted way that it was just bad story telling.

So, about 1.666 episodes into this show, and I'm completely effing engrossed. High production value, good acting and casting. Writing and pacing are on point so far.

I may be biased, as this show is mos' def cyberpunk, which is one of my favorite genres. But hot damn, it's good so far.

Can you give a little insight to what it's about without spoilers. Not sure I understand the cyberpunk reference.

One timeline is near future in the Blue Ridge mountains, other timeline is 70 years in the future in London. Both are low-key dystopian. It involves virtual reality (sort of). Other than that, just Google it, dude.

Each episode seems to answer questions while creating more to answer. While I enjoyed the latest episode, it was not as good as the ones before it.

I haven't even watched this past season. Got way too far off the beaten path.

Some interesting ideas are hidden in a convoluted story line. Can’t say I’d recommend it unless you need closure like me. There are some interesting ideas about AI and freedom and reality but I will say it ended and I was just glad it was over.

Should have ended after season 2.

The walking dead did the same thing with trying to stretch out the content way too long instead of condensing which made me stop caring completely.

Yeah we loved that show for several seasons. I was done when they killed off Carl (spoiler- sorry it was several years ago).

I thought there were some contextual transition issues in episode 6, but overall a great episode. I look forward to this show on Fridays.

I’m four episodes in. Definitely one of the better sci-fi shows out there. Feels like they learned a lot of lessons from Westworld.

In the last episode what was it they said was stolen and what they trying to recover? With their accents I couldn't really hear what they said and the explanation about it

Thanks

I watched with closed captions, but I do not recall.

Thanks. I did understand what was stolen was technology data and it stored in Fylnne somehow.
It's some sort of behavior modification technology that the RI developed that supposedly makes humans more cooperative/benevolent. Of course, it could also be used the opposite way.

So they were expecting Burton who is loaded with haptics to link, but when Flynn linked, the information/tech was deposited into her brain?
