The official 2024 Olympics thread.

I had a profit boost to use so I looked at the top 3 teams in women's beach volleyball according to the odds and picked which would be the best 3-some to put my $10 on. Go Hughes and Cheng. I think this is truly what they mean by the Olympic spirit.

Coming in on the boats was pretty cool.

Has anyone com,e across a solid guide of events? I'm sure every news outlet has one, but sometimes the guides themselves aren't that great and don't do the best job breaking down when the important medal events are, and when it's just qualifiers.

Opening Ceremony is an utter disgrace, like most things Europe.

Hmm I missed it...

Yahoosports has a really good one, up to date medal count also. It list events individually also.

Why is the surfing venue 5,000 miles away ? I get it, there is not waves to be had in Paris. But having it 5,000 miles away, just do not have it.

Having good looking French models with hairy armpits and legs would be the French thing to have done. That's a reputation of the them.

That spectacle just proves a large portion of our human counterparts aren't capable of freedom. Our freedoms and comforts have allowed the crazies to empower themselves when encouraged rather than be treated.

My girls with their first win on their road to glory.

My problems with the Olympics:
1) there are 40 different “sports”, yet NBC will spend 90% of their time on swimming, gymnastics, basketball and maybe a couple others. Ignoring at least half of them. I’d like to see the final in every sport.
2) the inclusion of athletic competitions that are not sports. Mostly events that are subjectively decided by voting (judges). Ballet takes athleticism, how long before they make that an olympic sport? Odd sports like the lumberjack game events are more sports than several Olympic ones.
3) the exclusion of many very popular real sports like rugby, padel, and pickleball

And then some questions:
1) why do the breast stroke and the butterfly stroke even exist
2) how has synchronized swimming lasted so long in the O games

And last, did you know:
1) surfing is being held 9,800 miles away from Paris, in Tahiti.

Watching female gymnastics now. 99% of us can tell the difference in most routines if not replayed in slow motion.
But I’m dying seeing these US girls wearing a strip around the bottom of their necks. It’s choking me just thinking about wearing it. Wonder if they get any input in that?

Yes.

Incredibly dangerous as well.

Edit: Portugal may represent a better choice if not for the fact prime surf season there runs September-April.

Trash-level opening ceremony mocking Christ, promoting grooming, and promoting trans nonsense.
Demonic to say the least. After that opening ceremony, I stopped following the Olympics. It's a shame France had to force demonic nonsense on the viewership.
