(The Jamal Murray thread) Team USA vs Team Canada @ 6:00 pm

I don't normally cheer for someone playing US but considering US had rival players it kind of made it easier to cheer for Canada

Instead of doing his usual highlight tape, Billionth should just post the entire 4th quarter and overtime for this one.
lol there is definitely going to be a lot of highlights I'll be putting together from that 4th quarter and overtime. Should be fun to work on. :)

I was just thinking that. How weird is it to see this board all excited over the United States LOSING a basketball game. It's like Murray converted us into temporary Canadians.

LOL, I don't disagree but then again it's not like it's the Olympics. The US doesn't exactly send our best in basketball for the Pan Am games so I think that makes it easier to cheer for the future Cat in this.

Speaking of that, it's not unrealistic to think that the Canadians could field teams in medal contention these next few Olympic cycles. A lot of really good talent coming from up north these days.

When you think about the talent level of some college teams compared to this USA team, Murray is going to be able to completely take over some games. He may have games when he scores 30 points...

murray is the 2nd youngest player at the event...making pros and college guys who will be on watchlists look average

if trimble is the best player on the #1 team in the nation....

I don't think Maryland will be preseason #1. I think Kansas and UNC on paper are clearly 1 and 2 in some order.

But Trimble was supposed to be one of the top returning point guards in the nation arguably behind only Marcus Paige.

I watched the first quarter and he didnt do anything. Looked like a typical Cal recruit. Not really athletic, not a lot of skill. Not really impressive. I tuned out. Then I saw where he scored 20 + points.

What? Not athletic or skilled? Typical Cal recruit? Wall Davis Jones Willie MKG Bledsoe Knight and on and on

I am just as excited by his passing as his scoring. Did you see those passes to Bennett for the dunks. I can't wait to see him feeding those same passes to our bigs. Poythress, Scal and Lee will have a field day. He is just what Poythress needed. Poythress will have a great season with Murray feeding him passes after he drives toward the basket.

Maybe the highest possible praise from a future NBA Hall of Famer

I am glad you are here so we meet our required quota for morons on this board. That should the ACLU off our back for awhile.

I hope the activity itself is fun -- editing and making the clips. That if you weren't making UK clips you'd be making funny dog videos or something. I feel like we're sponging off your efforts.

That guy is a super troll...

Had to click the "show ignored content" button at the bottom of the page to see who you all were talking about since I put that fool on ignore long ago, but that screen name has been a dead giveaway from day 1 for me, and I'm actually quite surprised that they've went under the radar for this long for a lot of folks.

Everyone put that UL troll on ignore. The user name is a dead giveaway as another poster said. No one should have to tolerate trolls/rival fans on here with the ignore feature :)

USA C team vs Canadian all stars...

is it just me, or does Canada have more recognizable names...number 1 overall pick in Bennett...future top pg in the country and lottery pick in Murray...Andrew Nicholson 19th pick by magic in 2012...7'5 giant "Monstar" from Space Jam that plays for the Kings...

USA has Ron Baker from Wichita St...
Canada is missing several players that could/would be on their senior national team, like Andrew Wiggins, Samuel Dalembert, Corey Joseph, Dwight Powell, Kelly Olynyk, Robert Sacre, Joel Anthony, Tristan Thompson, Samuel Dalembert, Tyler Ennis, Nik Stauskus, and Trey Lyles. That's 12 NBA guys right there that aren't on the team.

He just keeps topping himself, and doing so on increasingly large stages against increasingly tough competition. He's 18 years old. This isn't him at Madness, this is him in competitive, structured games against some of the best players in the world--and he wants and gets the ball in crunch time.

We have a team with Tyler Ulis and Isaiah Briscoe, two of the toughest, most competitive, most fearless guards in the country, and neither will be the best option at their own position on their own team. And Jamal Murray isn't even our best player. [laughing]

Some UK fans were talking NIT in May. Don't forget that. Would you trade this kid for Malik Newman? What about Vick? How many of you already need to google that name to remember you thought him choosing Kansas meant we couldn't land a recruit or were in trouble? [laughing]

I would say they'll learn one day, but the same folks had Cal taking the Pelicans, Bulls, Cavs and Kings jobs this offseason, so no, they wont.

How do they pick the teams for the Pan Am games? Are there rules that prevent better players from being a part of it?

No, but keep in mind, the players that played are pros (all of them excel at the pro level, yet are not NBA players) and very good college players (Trimble and Baker are two of the best that college basketball has to offer).

Many NBA players have other things going on and other things to prepare for at this time, and teams don't start fielding elite NBA players until FIBA and the Olympics, which Murray could very well participate in (FIBA, while at Kentucky, which even then, Team USA brings out NBA stars).

I started out a few months ago wanting Alonzo Trier more than any other guard, with any of the trio of Newman, Blakeney, and Briscoe as good gets. I had seen Newman have a couple of bad games, but never Trier. Now that I've seen Murray, there is no doubt. He is the one I'd want more than any other guard. I had never heard of him when I was ranking the other four. Glad he's ours.

Far and away the most NBA ready guard in the class.
