That would be hilarious. And the most amusing part is that Ohio State's basketball program is clearly a step up from Indiana's. How does that feel IUsetobe fans?

I have to disagree, IU just has been tanted, because of bad coaching hires. They have a lot of tradition compared to OSU.

Retiring in one year -> retiring effective immediately according to GP.

Sounds like something is about to be exposed, and he doesn't expect to get the UNC kid gloves for it.

Wow - retired effectively immediately!
Wow. hope everything is okay with him. Odd that he is stepping down before this season. Gotta hope it isn't due to a medical condition or family emergency.

Or they are just kicking him to the curb in hopes of luring a big name.

News reports on espn are using the word "fired."

Which is idiotic if true. Why wait this long, let Archie go to IU, and then fire Matta in June?

Bring the General home!

Matta has hadn't some pretty serious health issues the past few years I think. Have to believe that affected his desire to recruit like he did before. Buzz Williams would be a home run hire for them. Not sure if they can get a high profile guy at this late date though.

Probably won't happen, but I'd piss my pants laughing if Archie asked to be released from his Indiana commitment, citing a "once in a lifetime chance" to take on his dream job.

Did he build that out into his IU contract? I doubt they let him, but maybe they were desperate.

Archie Miller will not pull a Kiffin in IU...unless he thinks big brother is going there...which he isn't.

If he's 49 and retiring, something is up. It could be compliance issues but may also be health related. He's driven and is a competitor. Retiring at 49 is not an option for a guy like him. Retiring at 59 isn't an option for a guy like him. As always, there is more to the story.

I personally think they get Sean Miller. Just an odd feeling.

Not a chance Sean Miller leaves Arizona with the team he has coming in this year.. I'd LOVE to see Archie leave IU but not sure he has it in him to up root & move on so quick, it wouldn't look be a good look but I think it'd be awesome if he did.. This late in the game it's going to be hard to find a top notch replacement

I think he had a botched back surgery.Sounds like he was going through the same things Steve Kerr is.

I didn't think it was effective immediately. I agree

would really look bad on Archie if he left now. Would not blame him and would be really funny if he did.

Kind of late in the game to be coach hunting I think.

The AD needs to go with him. Would have gotten Archie if done this at season's end.

They better leave KP out of the search too.
