Texas Tech's Darrion Williams Enters Portal

I wouldn't be going after any guys who are thinking about the NBA draft. Wait all that time, and then they go in the draft, decide to transfer to another team that isn't UK,or just go back to where they came from. A 1-in-4 shot.
What about Oweh? Would you go get a replacement if he puts his name in the draft?

Agreed.

Go after the ones that plan to play college. The waiting game could leave you short handed.

Who ACTUALLY believes there is a team that will draft Oweh in the 1st round OR give him a guaranteed 2nd round contract????

Not me.

He will make more as a Sr at UK than he would in the G-League. So even if he "tests the draft waters"( I HATE that saying because these kids know EXACTLY what the NBA teams think about them because their agents are in CONSTANT contact with the scouts throughout the season), he will be back next year.

So they would go with Noah/Williams to assist at the 4?
Yes. Has to be the case. TOS reported a big, a shooter and a possible wildcard — that’s it. We are not adding more than 3 more and most likely only 2 more, a big and a shooter

That's what I'm thinking as well. There is a possibility Williams gets to 220# next year which would make a big difference. That 190# could very well be what he checked in last July or when he got to campus. That would make sense if they planned on that when they took him.

I bet we have a silent commitment by Alvaro as we speak. If so we are done with big guys.
I agree, if we get Folgueiras, we are probably done at the 4/5.

I feel like Pope wants to go a little smaller, more athletic, and will play Folgueiras and Garrison together with Moreno off the bench. Williams and Noah would also see some minutes at the 4.

The reason I am thinking this is possible is that we got Williams and are still after Yates or Pierre. We get one of those and there’s a logjam at the 2 and 3 spots. To give Williams some minutes, Pope almost has to play him some at the 4.

Williams at the four might be OP. I like the thought of having a player like that at the 4

I wouldn't be surprised to see some double big looks with Garrison/Moreno on the court. Pope rolled with a Williams/Garrison frontcourt combo with more frequency as the season progressed.

Williams at the 4 might provide a little more defensive oomph than Almonor in the backup 4 role. I'm sure he'd be able to rebound better than Almonor.

Pope reached out to that Bama guy and also supposed to get Alvaro so I don't believe he will add just one more. Seems to be going for 2.

Entirely possible.

I’m just wondering how all these wings fit together.

Seems like a logjam on the wings if we add Pierre or Yates to what we have.

Oweh, Johnson, Williams, Yates (or Pierre), and Chandler for two spots (SG and SF) looks like a logjam to me. And I’m not even figuring on Perry or Noah seeing much action.

Probably need to go small to give everyone a decent amount of PT.

Exactly.

I got blasted last night for suggesting Garrison at the 4, but he can handle that spot. He did some this past season.
Garrison is frustrating at times, but Pope started to trust him playing the 4 as a more defensive option than the backup Almonor.

With a year in Pope system under his belt, Garrison may blossom into quality player as an upperclassman since he doesn't have to learn the ropes again. He will start the year with a greater familiarity with a role that was entirely novel to him.

Haven’t watched this guy much, but based on size, reports of his toughness, and highlights…would it be unrealistic to say he is kinda like Chuck Hayes with a jump shot?

Another bidding war and expect another miss
You must not understand how this whole selling and closing when it comes to recruiting and the transfer portal works. When you go after sought after players, you cast a wide net. This gives you many option. You might go after 10 power forwards on hopes to land one of them . Guess what ? So is every other major program . You’re only missing if you don’t land any of them . When you land a top 50 or even a top 100 transfer, that’s a good hit. “Missing” on others isn’t missing. You only have room for 1 anyways at a certain position.

I am just kidding, you are too serious

Correct, he's 6'6". He's an okay rebounder for that size, but not great. Williams would be a welcomed addition, but we need to add some guys who can own the boards.
Same height as PJ Washington
In college you can get away with being a 6'6 pf
I can name several.
If anyone watched the Florida Texas tech game you should want this dude. He makes so many of his shots in the paint
