Texas high school player slams ref after ejection

This is from CBS Sports
"According to The Monitor, Duron, the team's "star defender," was suspended in the 2019-20 soccer season for an incident similar to the one that took place on Thursday. "
Yea, DL-man plays soccer too? LOL.

Did read he did a similar thing as a wrestler. Article said that before the ejection & after the whistle, he had shoved opposing OLman to the ground and then tried to tackle the QB.

Yeah nobody deserves any of this behavior and tv replay has made it worse over the years.. but I think opinions of people toward officials would improve dramatically if there was just a better accountability system for them. Not sure how practical that is at the high school level but transparency at all levels should be better. High school and youth behavior toward officials is mostly attributable to parent or authority figure behavior or permissibility.

But at higher levels...All you get right now, even in college, is some former official now in charge of an officials group issuing a bland statement supporting a ref on a questionable call causing outrage. Then they keep trotting the same guys out there. This is what can easily lead to the arrogance some can’t stand...because they feel they’re above any sort of correction or consequence because they are. They’re going to make mistakes...it’s the not admitting them even when obvious that I think keeps many from accepting calls during games
Your attitude is that competent refs grow on trees. LMAO.

Good for him. Stuff like this will happen until someone in the officiating world takes responsibility. The kid is in the wrong because actions like this are crazy, but there are some officials out there that do deserve getting slammed, or hit in the jaw.
You are talking about a high school official who does it for the love of the game and not because he makes a ton of money. No wonder there is a shortage of officials because of crap like this.

It's one thing to give a kid a second chance, but apparently this kids previous action was borderline criminal chargers during other school activities (just going on what I'm reading in this thread). The school must have a culture of winning to be more important than any sort of character. At some point the administration has to step up and say " I don't care how much you need him, he is not representing my school".

You are an example as to why poor public behavior continues to escalate.

You should take a break from from commenting for awhile...

This happened in a game I was officiating at Knox Central years ago. A KC player was flagged for a personal foul and got into the face of the official who then ejected him. The KC player took his helmet off and hit the official in the face. As me and the head official was escorting him to the sideline, his father came onto the field and threatened us. We yelled for security and two deputies came on the field to make sure nothing else transpired. The head official called the game off as the opposing team's coach felt it was an unsafe environment.

When the player got to the sideline, his teammates were giving him high fives.

The player was charged with assault and suspended from school. The judge dismissed the charges after the player's family agreed to pay for the officials medical bills.

To this day, the official who was assaulted has a nasty scar on the side of his face.

I remember when that happened. I don't personally know the KC kid who did this, but a mutual friend told me the man now, is a pretty good dude and has done okay for himself. According to that guy, unlike the kid in Texas this was an isolated event. Apparently, it was his senior year and it was a losing program back then and the parent and fans kind of instigated the whole thing due to their out of control behavior. I guess when a kid hears they are getting cheated over and over they eventually take it personally. No excuses though. Is the referee that go hit still alive? I thought I had heard a while back he had passed away?

My guess, and until I see evidence to suggest otherwise, is that the apple didn't fall too far from the tree...
Thats it, blame Dad. Do you have kids?
I have a 25 yr old and a 20 yr old and I tried my damndest to bring those boys up right.

But you know what? You can lead a horse to water but you cant make them drink.

Its time for people to be responsible for their own actions and stop blaming Dad for all shortcomings!

Not really, and I know they aren’t...particularly in high school. My point is actually that people can accept some level of making mistakes if they know it’s A being addressed and B that the official(s) don’t act like they’re above getting it wrong.

The kid should absolutely be punished. And I shouldn’t have said it about a high school official, that was kinda Busch league. Basically what I was trying to say was I don’t condone it but I absolutely could see how it happens. We have to get officials that aren’t costing people games and being complete douchebags

And you are sure to attract a lot of good honest officials if you condone assaulting officials for a bad call, especially when it is more than likely it wasn't a bad call to start with.

I never said what the kid did warranted 0 punishment. I’m just saying shit like this is bound to happen when most of the people out there officiating games are in officiating because their occupation has no consequences and they get to have power. What I said probably crossed the line because it is high school but have you paid attention to the ones in college and professional sports? Hell we’ve had officials fixing games in the NBA in the last 10 years, we got referees in college who blatantly call things against the team that isn’t “supposed to win.” I apologize for saying it about a high school situation cause that official is probably a good guy, but every single crew in the SEC can all get hit in the mouth for all I care, they suck the fun out of the game. One striped shirt can ruin 100,000 people’s enjoyment, a coach lose his job, or a kid to get in trouble and have no consequences, because it’s also not in the game to be an incompetent or corrupt Douchebag.

Remember when Benny Snell touched the official in the Music City Bowl? No one complained about that, they complained that Snell got ejected, and I definitely felt like that ref that night probably deserved a lot worse than Benny making contact with him. He was an arrogant prick Who belonged no where on that field

Congrats on being able to quote the one bad call that most on here would agree was a bad call, how about the thousands of calls that were made correctly in every game. And officials make dozens of judgements or calls on every play that fans never think about unless there is a flag is thrown.

Don't waste your time with him. All sane people know he's a psyho.

Congrats on having the absolute worst take I have ever seen on this board on any subject, ever. There is no world where you are remotely correct. Do you understand that?

An interesting tidbit about high school rules is that almost all states use the HSAA rules, while Texas is the only one I know for sure uses the NCAA rules. Some years ago this high school player had a ton of highlights showing him hurdling players (went to Michigan) and I couldn't figure out why he wasn't flagged a bunch, turns out he played in Texas. Forget the name but we had a very good athlete from Georgia (played DB) that his highlights showed a classic hurdle by him on the way to a TD, but if you looked closely you saw a flag at the hurdling spot------TD called back.

No matter how bad the call was there is no excuse for that. I don’t care if it’s high school, college or pro that can’t happen without severe repercussions.

I haven't heard anything about him passing away, but it's been years since I've seen him.

Don't understand this comment.

And what then if they're not being addressed and the officials behave as pricks? OK to beat the crap out of them then?

You need your money back if you ever paid for education.

Not saying everything a kid does is their parents fault....but I'd venture to say that about 90 percent of what they do is. If a kid grows up learning that they don't have to respect authority or that there are no consequences for their actions, that is the path they will take because of human nature.
They also learn much more from what they see you doing than what they hear you telling them to do. If you are hitting the crack pipe every day but saying..."Don't ever do this--It's terrible for you"....As a parent you can't say, "I told them not to do that but they just won't listen".
Not saying you did that, just giving examples of things some parents excuse away then act surprised when their kids turn out rotten. I see it all the time in education.

The kid needs to spend 6 months in jail and do 200 hours of community service. No respect for authority anywhere any more. Kick his ass out of school and make him pay all medical bills. Unreal.
You've got to wonder how this kid behaves at home. Obviously has no respect for authority and thinks the rules don't apply to him. Should never play again on any level.

I wonder if he has any scholarship offers. He was all region. I would hope the offer was pulled if he did.

Watching riots and assaults in the streets for months and with coaches supporting and promoting the BLM movement, he prob thought he’d just get away with it.

Here’s my 2 cents. The kid has anger issues because........"..... all the normal left wing excuses for bad behavior.
1. He has no father.
2. He comes from a family of social outcasts.
3. His friends make fun of him because he has no I-Phone.
4. His act of aggression was simply caused because he looks at refs as policemen.

You all can fill in the rest.
