high risk high reward job...already heard strickland and jurich mentioned from callers on xm college radio.
Hmmmmm......Texas AD gets fired after only 22 months....previous AD was on board for over 3 decades.
New AD had two significant hires under his belt. Charlie Strong (FB) and Shaka Smart (BB).
Smart hasn't even rolled a basketball onto the practice court yet, so no one can argue the Shaka hire is in question.
The only thing logical inference is that the UT admin and alums think AD made a HUGE MISTAKE hiring Strong to pilot the most lucrative program in college sports, and they took his head for it. Next victim....FB coach. Charlie may be looking for work at the end of this season if he doesn't have a big turn around.
New AD will have "zero" vested interest in keeping around a non-hacker on the sidelines and money for a Strong buy out plus new hire is no object to Longhorn nation.

I think the point made earlier in the thread is that those days might be passing into history, so perhaps you leave before it is quite obvious you overreached.Tom Jurich has the entire city of Louisville under his thumb. He's basically the mayor. Not sure he'd want to give that up.
Jurich at UT is a match made in Heaven!
Best part of that hypothetical is Petrinos buyout gets cut in half if Jurich leavesIt would be hilarious if Jurich left and took Petrino with him. Wouldn't happen, but I would enjoy it.

I cant imagine Rick Pitino in Texas. They're idea of Italian food is Pizza Hut.And Pitino too....? Rick might be able to sign 13 future NBA'ers in Texas.
it's not to far fetched for tommy turtleneck to leave for texas. the tard fans will hope and believe he wont go like strong left. money talks and texas has plenty to double anything Louisville jr college has. if texas wants him bad enough they will get him and then the real puzzle begins.....does he fire his buddy strong or cast his net to Harley bob. I tend to believe if he goes he will look at strong hard after the season and see what progress is made and if he has to hire another coach it won't be Harley bob. as the alumni wont take it they will want a more top of the line coach. like a good possibility of saban. bottom line is whom ever texas wants they will get.
While I agree with the sentiment, fighting Louisville for a hire verses fighting Alabama are two very different animals. I honestly don't think Texas would want Jurich since he doesent really have any ties to the state of Texas but he has been an incredible fundraiser for both himself and the University of Louisville. They wanted Saban before they hired Strong and last time I checked, Saban is still in Bama. So, no. They can't just get whoever they want.

Can you picture it though? Texas fans being asked at the gas pumps if they want to donate to the UT Athletic fund.
You people are on crack if you think a class bigtime organization like Texas would actually consider someone like Jurich. Folks, the slimy crime boss of a mob syndicate doesnt get hired to be a fortune 500 CEO.
As if Louisville actually needed the gas pump fund raiser. Its not a question of need, its a question of can we. Tommy has never turned down a money making opportunity.Texas does not need a fund raiser. Nor does Texas need facilities. Texas needs a coach and an AD that insists on results. Strong may have been the worst hire for them. Terrible fit. And I am not sure what Jurich does is what Texas needs. Jurich would be knocking heads with some big money dudes....he won't win that battle.
I think Texas needs an AD that can spot a talented FB coach. Not one that can win at UL, as Strong did in the AAC or Petrino did in the Big East. Rather they need an AD that can find a coach that can win against big boys. Texas should have been the schol hiring Urban Meyer or Harghbaugh (sp). They don't need the best AD in the country...just a good one.
Charlie Strong's poor public speaking skills always made me question the hire. I'm sure he's an ok football mind but that job is as much about shaking hands and kissing babies as it is about coaching.i just don't get who ever thought strong was a good hire for them.
they hired Patterson, and he's at least as big a slime as Jurich if not more so.You people are on crack if you think a class bigtime organization like Texas would actually consider someone like Jurich. Folks, the slimy crime boss of a mob syndicate doesnt get hired to be a fortune 500 CEO.

The question is whether or not Texas is so desperate at this point to be willing to let an AD run the program with an iron fist if it meant wins on the field.A couple of additional thoughts:
-Per Kirk Bohls (very knowledgeable and well-connected UT reporter at the Austin American Stateman newspaper), Strong is well-liked and had nothing to do with this decision. By all accounts, Pedersen is an ass that alienated everyone around him.
-Texas has the money to outbid almost anyone, and they can certainly outbid UL.
-With that said, others have already pointed out that I'm not sure that Jurich would have the power down there that he has at UL. Sounds strange to say, but he has complete autonomy at UL (to the point where it's almost insane), and I'm not sure that they give him that at UT. With that said, the idea of Texas has to intrigue him. They're a top 5 athletic program nation-wide, he can do more there than he could ever dream of doing at UL.
How many jobs has jurich tried for and missed on? He is not going anywhere because no one else will turn a blind eye to his lack of control over his coaches.

With A@M moving ahead of UT the many big boosters are not happy bout that. The question is whether or not Texas is so desperate at this point to be willing to let an AD run the program with an iron fist if it meant wins on the field.
UT football boosters might well be desperate enough at this point.
