Refs don’t think we’re missing enough players

Yeah, our fanbase well deserves the title of being one of the most obnoxious in sports.

Love how so many of our fans complain about refs, nonstop. Quite amusing, to be honest. Only on Rupp Rafters do you see threads before the game bemoaning who the refs are for the game. Gives our entire fanbase a bad look. But it won't stop. We can keep looking like idiots.

Cool story

Definitely inspired me to figure out who Terry Oglesby is. Hating Cal I kind of get, but stalking Mark Pope is just bizarre behavior.
He was on my short list. He and Daily look alike.

All the referee defenders need to get on Twitter and watch some of the highlights of the crew last night. Sears protected to the nth degree.

Go look on reddit at any game thread of an sec game. Fans of every school in the league are complaining about officials. Not just Kentucky fans, although we do have a rather loud minority that make others look bad.

Why would anyone like you with the vast knowledge of basketball that you have accumulated, ever want to hang around a bunch of idiots like us on a message board?

From back in 2017. Thought it was interesting, considering his seeming disdain for UK and our coaches.

“DF: This whole John Higgins thing became kind of a national story. What are your thoughts on that whole situation?
TO: I know John very well. I worked my first Division I game with him. He lives in Omaha, so I’ve known him since I started. He’s a really good guy and a really good referee. He’s one of the best in the country obviously. I think it happened to John a little more because he’s so well-known. The other two guys were in the game, but they don't even know who worked with him. They didn’t get the death threats or the phone calls. They just know John because he’s worked a lot of big games. He’s easily recognizable because of his hair and looks or whatever.
DF: Were you shocked it got to that level?
TO: I was. It’s ridiculous honestly. Again, these people think we go out there and try to cheat the other team. That’s just not true. You can go back and watch that game. Was there a call or two that went against Kentucky? Probably. There were probably a couple that went against North Carolina too. When it gets to that point with the death threats, that’s overboard. I talked to John that weekend and his biggest thing was his family. He was of the mindset of — if they want to threaten me, fine, I can take it. He’s got a young kid who is 10 or 12 years old and a wife at home. That would make you think about it.
DF: Have you ever been criticized to that level or even close?
TO: No. I’ve seen stuff on Twitter or seen stuff in the paper about Terry Oglesby gave the worst technical or whatever, but never death threats or person phone calls. But it could happen to anybody. They can find your phone number anytime they want.”

Do I have to read the whole article to find disdain for Kentucky and coachex? Because it's not in that text

You could have seen his disdain on display last night, as he stalked Pope on the sidelines.

I never said or implied that the article explicitly included anything about disdain for UK or our coaches.

I found his history with Higgins interesting, and figured anyone with 3/4 of a brain could draw their own conclusions.

What pisses me off the most is this was fully investigated by FBI and other law enforcement. THERE WERE NO DEATH THREATS .
six comments were referred to prosecutors and were not worth prosecuting. The strongest was “ I hope you fall off of a roof and kill yourself . “ the whole thing was made up . Higgins is the Jussie Smollet or referees . Falsley claimed death threats to gain an advantage in the PR war .
Press doesn’t gave the gonads to correct it .

Yeah Kentucky fans are the only ones who complain about refs.

I understand many do not or would never accept my opinion here on this but I just had a conversation with my grandson about life, situations where others seemingly try to provoke you and there comes a time when you either stand or run.
He was in a basketball game and this kid was pushing him, grabbing him all game; not subtle pushes but trying to really be aggressive and intimidate my grandson. My grandson is one of those who is shy, talented, smart and does not seek attention.

I told him there comes a time when you got to say, "F it and give it to them to shut them up"
Pope needed to get tossed out right there. I like the fact he is a classy guy, way more than me but F it and let him have it.

FYI...the kid pushed my grandson to the ground again, no call then but when he got up and my grandson knocked him down with a hard rebound and the kid got up crying like a baby. Foul called but there was no more pushing from the little crap. Sometimes people just take kindness for weakness and you either take it or not,

The really bad part is that Alabama probably wins that game without help from the refs. It was almost as if they were more concerned with the spread and the over.

Ego is correct , never ever , or rarely at best admit they sucked and blew the game . And the way they protect each other makes me want to yak

Uh Not worth prosecuting doesn't mean the guy shouldn't be concerned for his life or falsely claimed anything. I mean of things that pisses me off, that he received these messages from Kentucky fans is a million spots above, "Duh, no one was prosecuted but they don't say that, duh."

The threatening messages said:

#1 - "You should put a gun in your mouth and blow your won fricking brains out."

#2 - "If I ever see you in person I'm going to smack the taste out of your fricking mouth."

#3 - "You're going to pay buddy."

#4 - "You enjoy your life before somebody kills you."

#5 - "Hey you hear that garbage truck in the background? Wish you were in it personally you **."

#6 - "I hope the hell John Higgins falls off a roof and spends the rest of his life in a wheelchair."

#7 - "I hope you all get in a plane crash and die."

Not to debate on the effectiveness of refs because we've had three pages about that but there's something I am not understanding at all.

The logic that it's somehow Pope's fault and that Pope needs to "be tougher" with the refs.

What exactly do you think that is going to accomplish?

We had a raving lunatic roam the sidelines for 15 years.............that didn't help things with the officials at all.

Refs were heavy for the home team but our guys didn’t do us any favors. I’m tired of the injury excuse at this point. We are deep we have Kentucky guys as the next guys up (sans chandler). We have a very deep team. Ou anf auburn at home whoever we have for those games it doesn’t matter we have to win them

I'm not necessarily sure we do have a very deep team.

The dropoff when Amari goes to the bench and BG has to come in is massive.

Plus any team losing three players like UK has would be suffering.
We weren't exactly the most talented team even completely healthy. We are playing in an absolute brutal conference.

It was going to have an effect.

Some of this is on Pope. He will get ZERO respect from the officials for being the nice guy.

I mean what are we supposed to do then. Cal couldn't yell at them, but Pope is too nice?

If you ask me this has nothing to do with Cal or Pope or any coach. It's the SEC, at the very least, trying to help other teams at the expense of Kentucky.. but at its worst there seems to be some concerted effort to hold Kentucky back by higher ups in the SEC/NCAA who have some issue with the school/basketball program. Going all the way back to when Emmert had an axe to grind with UK over Enes Kanter.

I dont know how else to explain it. It's every night almost. There's no consistency.. any call that can be a 50/50 call seems to go against us or in the opponents favor.

Wait we have a deep team? And because we have some home town freshman were supposed to just overcome a 5v8 SEC top10 road games?

The expectations some of you put on the basketball program are just not realistic.

1) There is no question that statistically certain referees have worked a disproportionate number of UK losses over the years

2) I think people in these threads are focused on what is actually called but I am concerned about what is not being called. Isolate on Koby Brea and you will see him often being bear hugged to prevent him from getting open looks .

3) Also the inside play is much worse than several years ago when they widened the lane. And while we are on this subject one of the reasons other teams are getting more offensive rebounds is that their rebounders position themselves in the lane and never move out ...often for five or six seconds....and of course you never see three second calls anymore

4) Hand checking has gone to a different level especially at the guard position.

The FBI judged there was NO THREAT..... Higgins can over react all he wants.... and he did a lot of that!
