Tennessee basketball losing: Ziggler, Lanier, Dubar, Milici, Gainey

Alabama losing: Sears, Nelson, Omoriyi, Youngblood, Wrightsell, Mallette

Kansas losing: KJ Adams, Dickinson, Harris, Mayo, Coit, Shakeel Moore

A lot of teams had teams full of 5th year guys that had played together multiple years. Going to be huge to see them clean the cupboards. I'm sure they'll do some reloading in the portal. But they should be down compared to today.

We are too.
None of our guys were here last year.

The problem isn't that these schools have old rosters. It's easy enough to find old guys with the portal and NIL. But that continuity they've had where they've kept 4th and 5th year guys together for 2-3 years. has generally been a huge advantage. Not sure what happened with Kansas.

It rhymes with Spunter Spickenson

Here's the bad news though, Baker-Mazar still has another year of eligibility. He is older than Zion.
Time to start looking at the older brothers of phenoms who got caught up in distraction. Girl, job, drugs, prison other sport. I mean if we picked up a couple 26-27 year olds dudes and have them in the system for 4 years look out!

He won’t have the suppprting cast.

I’m pretty sure they will lose everybody else.

Pettiford could be back, but he probably goes to the NBA.

Very good point . So there will be a pressure on portal and hs to fill up these needs. Multiple team will compete for same players.

Dickerson is going to be able to draw social security off Kansass!!!

It remains to be seen if they actually do, but as crazy as it may be, Wrightsell and Mallette actually could come back at Alabama next year. Even though this was supposed to be their 5th season, they both missed enough of it with injuries that they’d qualify for a medical redshirt if they want it and don’t transfer.

Some of those guys (about 1/2) the OP listed were only there 1 year.

If he had played for Cal at UK, he would’ve been pushed out after his second year here. Cal and his fanboys would’ve said he has to go pro now because his stock will never be higher. 🙄

I was the OP.

I guess I'm under the impression that returning your core core 5th year guys (and even 4th year guys) and adding in a few extra is a distinct advantage over a team like Kentucky that added a bunch of 4th and 5th year guys that have never played together.

The post isn't "Haha, Alabama lost their players." It's Alabama had an advantage because they had Sears and Nelson come back for their 5th years together. Kansas theoretically had an advantage because they had Harris, Dickinson, KJ Adams return. Tennessee having Ziggler there for 4 years, Mashack and Gainey returning from last year--that's an advantage.

Kentucky had NO ONE returning this past season. And these schools were able to return All-Conference (and in some cases All-American) level talents.

Now they're reloading. Just like us. But last year we reloaded while they returned their best players.

People have to understand that for every player Pope has identified as the perfect “fit” for our system,
there are 15-20 schools fighting for the same player. Pope won’t be able to just pluck them like a ripened apple off the tree.
It’s going to be a brutal recruiting cycle. I hope we get our fair share.

good point

I had alluded to the fact a lot of these teams are losing the core of players they have had together for quite sometime this upcoming season. Considering Pope had to pull together a competitive core of guys so quickly while all the rest were essentially established already tells me that we're in good hands moving forward.

There's a lot of signs here and there at the change of direction here ...

seeking multi year eligible players out of the portal with a high talent level
Seeking the right players with attitude that match what Coach is looking for
bringing everything together in this new age for NIL and funds to compete with anyone for players
and the style of play. enjoyable, very enjoyable to watch and I would imagine, to play for

All of the teams losing players needing to be replaced will mean they may not stay as dominant as some teams have been the past few years. The playing field is ultra level, depending on how deep your pocketbook goes.

And we're Big Blue Nation. I'd think that would mean we will be able to hang with anyone for any potential player we really, really want when it comes to paying up. But they're going to need to absolutely understand - they will have to deliver upon performance.

we shall see

Change it now, that's fine, and a valid point. Continuity is important.
That may be how you meant it, but that's not how you presented it.

The extra covid year finally going away is huge.... should bring back some normalcy to college basketball.

Alabama shouldn't be mentioned with the others really. They have Holloway, Wrightsell, Stevenson, Diobate, Reid, Mallette, and Sherrell returning (as of now) and have 3 quality freshmen coming in.

Wouldn't be shocked if Barnes decides to retire. Total rebuild. I could see it happening.
Barnes already said he would be back. I keep seeing people say this. The interview he said this in was posted on this board. He already has a transfer player he told he would be back.

Yes but coaches do change their minds especially if they have someone on staff they really want to take the position. We shall see.

Why so angry? I just said we shall see. Maybe he will and maybe he won't. I don't care either way. Just rumor that was out there. Sorry it bothers you so much.
The reason you think I'm angry is because you get angry over words on the internet and assume so does everyone else. I don't. Sorry to disappoint you. I don't care either way either.

I feel like you're being extremely pedantic to create an argument. I'm not looking to argue with you. I explained what I meant. Instead of "Oh, I understand what you were trying to say," you hit me with a "That's not how you presented it."

You're being confrontational when the need doesn't exist. I'm not going to keep going back and forth with you on if I presented it well enough. Have a nice day.

Edit: I actually went out of my way to mention they had played together multiple years. I think that "presentation" explained my point just fine. You're looking to be argumentative. Please stop.
