Tell the truth, some of y'all pulled for Hogs this day

Love me some arkansas ppl and i do pull for their basketball historically - football sometimes too

They love basketball as much as we do and we've swapped two coaches over the years

Admittedly its a little more complicated pulling for them NOW ---

But i DO pull for them over Florida, Tennessee etc

I should probably check out Action Jackson's link now....

I am sorry to hear about your friend. It is nice to have a special basketball moment like that together to remember him by.
Was a great dude, Jimmy Gray. We worked together at TGIF in Plainview back in the mid-nineties. As big of a UK fan as i've known in my lifetime. I remember the day Pitino left for Boston. Double edged sword for him, he was a lifelong Celtics fan and couldn't pull for them anymore. He was that pissed.

I do not hate the hogs. Just do not really follow anything with them pre or now Cal being there. I remember 1978 final 4. But that is about it. Did watch 40 mins of hell back in the day when no other games on. Thought they played a tough (often referred to thug ball) but it was interesting to watch.

Wow, that was quite the dilemma there for him. I probably would have done the same thing if I was a Celtics fan. Tough pill to swallow back then. I have a good friend that loves his Razorbacks. He is an older man that is a minster at a small church in Cherry Valley, AR. We became friends over our mutual interest in the Cincinnati Reds.

Been a Huge Reds fan my whole life. The year i moved to Louisville is the year they won it all with the Nasty Boys.

Did Boot Camp at Knox and swore i'd never come back. Folks moved her and i followed after i got out. Will never leave. Daughters born here and i have deep roots in Kentucky now.

Arkansas -- Once home to the AF's Titan Missile (that is a Titan II)

There were at least 18 ICBM silos around Little Rock alone

Aerojet still there?

That is awesome! Definitely love the Reds, win or lose. 1990 was a fun season. Hope to see another WS again someday soon. I live just a few miles from Ft Knox. My property isn't far from the reservation land they have along Joe Prather Hwy. Back in WWII, my Grandmother's farm was taken by eminent domain to expand Fort Knox.

Small world. I have a lot of girls i coach from Hardin. One of them, i'm good friends with her dad and hunt on his land.

Not at all.
Thinking back, I didn't have anything against UL back in those days. But they won that first title and then the Dream Game back in '83, and their fans lost thier minds. I've never heard such trash talk. And it was completely unwarranted. Most of us pulled for UL, too, before Denny Crum got there. I think over the years they've found out who the true blueblood is.

Ark fans the worst. They lie dormant accepting their irrelevance then once an even 5-6 years they have a team that can make an elite 8 run in the 90s it was a title run and their fans talked mad crap about UK.

Yeah i’ve pulled for them against Duke in the tournament multiple times now. A few years ago and in ‘94. Pulled for them against Kansas a few years ago too.

I think UNC a few times too. Thought they got screwed against UNC in 2017 but they should have had that game. I seem to remember them choking thst one away but then getting a bad call on a charge or a no call on a travel or something down the stretch too. I just remember UNC getting a ton of very favorable breaks from the officiating in that title run.

The 1990's Rick Pitino lead UK squad's vs Nolan Ricardson's 40 minutes of hell Arkansas squads were some of the best college basketball games I have ever watched. Great teams that just flat went after each other. Full court press in your face the entire game. Huge three's and posterizing dunks. From 1994 until 1998 These two teams accounted for 3 National Championships and 2 National Runner Ups.

Those that are either old enough or have seen the reply.

US Reid from half-court
I 10,000% was pulling for Arkansas in this game. When the US Reed shot went in, I jumped so high & cheered so hard that my head nearly hit the ceiling. This was back in the days that I was the ultimate Louisville hater. I had such a dislike for UofL that once during the late 70's/ early 80's they were playing the Soviet Union in an exhibition game & I was pulling for the Russians to beat them.

Kentucky had its own ignominious end to that season, and neither fan base was pleased to see IU win it all.

Also, neither side likes to admit this now but back in 1981 there were a lot of folks that thought it was great both teams (and thus the state) were dominating the sport. The rivalry existed but it wasn’t white hot and it t wasn’t until the “dream game” in 1983 that it really exploded, imho.

That was the best of times.

I watched the Hog/Duke Title game at a place called Mr. G's with a great UK Friend of mine. He's passed away since then but the whole bar was pulling for Hogs back then.
Hey you still go there? My son runs sound for several bands who play there

I'm a football guy , and I enjoyed being around Arkansas fans at War Memorial Stadium. The calling of the hogs is a pretty cool football tradition.

If that was in 81, I was 11 and did not yet watch any college basketball yet, not until 1-2 years later.

1981 dang

I am guessing at UK players on our lineup:

Chuck Verderber
Troy McKinley - wrong
Chris Gettlefinger - wrong
Sam Bowie

Derrick Hord

??
Will have to look up others

We were a guard short that year. Hord wasn't a 2G, which he was forced to play. If Dwight Anderson hadn't been dismissed from the team, that's probably Joe B's second title.
