Talent vs Experience

First half of the experienced Kentucky team and talented Duke team showed few things:
- Kentucky plays within a system and has no player to take over the game,
- Duke is hedging while defending the 3 pts line but we are trying to run the same two options that are easily defended. I hope to see some adjustments from Pope .
- our rebounding , FT shooting and inability to stay in front of Duke players will cost us the game
- perhaps a match up zone should be utilized.
- this team has a low ceiling as far as talent and will go as far as the coaching will go.

In regards to the topic specifically, give me talent all day.

Talent might not always win the title, but there's 340 "experienced" teams that don't win anything every single year. I'm pretty sure almost all the recent title winners have a 1st round draft pick on them, or more.

Guys it's simple. This thread should end with my comment.

You can't have a team of all 5 star freshman. Cal had 15 years to prove that this works and Anthony Davis saved his a**

Pope is going to build a team starting next season with 3-4 freshman and Experience that already plays within his system. Ironically this is what Duke is doing and why they will be a tough out this eason.

Second half … first time out

- couple back door passes … good adjustment
- same lazy rebounding and poor FT shooting
- turnovers because our bigs cannot drive even when they give few steps… instead we are trying to move the ball around the perimeter where the Duke players are hedging. Common Pope we are watching the same game,,,,

It clearly worked…a championship, a runner up, and two other final four appearances…

Duke time out, 4 point game . We are making a come back because we are matching the physically and finally a player has decided to attack the basket 3 times : Butler.

Conclusion : experience trumps talent at least early in the season.

Cooper Flag lost the game for Duke down the stretch. Coach Pope won the game . Great adjustments in second half:
Showing some zones 1-3-1 and 2- 3 , got the bigs involved, push the guys to play more physically.

After this game I wonder if Garrison and Brea should get more minutes .

Congrats to Coach Pope and staff.
