Stoops terrible answer

Yes it is. I agree 100% The problem isn't losing to the top 10 schools, it's losing to the bottom feeders! Mediocre excuse for a Mediocre coach 🤷
He should be thankful for the opportunity to simply PLAY a top-10 school. If he were a legitimate head coach he would use every opportunity to teach and improve his own team. But alas ... he laments, just as you would expect from someone who will never embrace and profit from the challenge. The MAC seems more appropriate for a guy like Stoops.

I like Stoops and respect the groundwork he has laid at UK, but the man is cracking under the pressure. He is shooting himself in the foot this year with some of these comments.

The comment might fly if you play those top 10 teams close and lose, but UK has been blown out and basically the game was over before the end of the 1st.

Is he not the man to excite the doners to give more? Is it going to take a man that can recruit even better and have an open and exciting offense to get the doners more excited for the program?
I think the donors would be there if they felt it was a good use of their money but I imagine they’re as disgruntled as the fanbase, just look at Brady’s post and that man is as die-hard for UK football as anyone has ever been.

I been a fan of CMS for a long time, but he is different this year, the comment about fans coming up with more NIL and the conference schedule being tough. Hate to say it but those are excuses, not answers. He knew what he was jumping in when he took an ACC job. This just makes me believe he is near following his brother into retirement, not leaving for another job or fired. Just basing this on his family history.

This response is a bad look. Stoops have been given pretty much everything he has asked for and has the talent to be way better than what they are. Complaining about the schedule is a weak look and is kind sad
A prudent man wouldn't make that statement for public consumption. Ill-advised and just dumb, IMO.

Ive been telling anyone who will listen for several years he is a mediocre coach at best. You can point back to several losses over the years where it can be pinpointed directly to coaching and in game management. You never see some of the ridiculous mistakes we make at other schools. i.e,. wide receivers being completely left uncovered twice in one game (Florida a few yrs ago), some of the dumb play calling at crucial times that have costs us games, going through numerous OC's with the same results, tightening up and playing not to lose(and losing because of it). undisciplined players getting one stupid penalty after another in crucial times. Special teams disasters over the years. I too see what he has done positive for the program, but for $9 million dollars a year, we shouldn't settle for complete mediocrity, which is what we will always have as long as he is coach.

Excellent post.

Yep. Pretty much sums it up.

It’s not JUST losing to top 10 teams that I have a problem with. It would be unreasonable to expect us to win a high percentage of those games. But, losing spectacularly & rarely being competitive for more than a qtr or a half is unacceptable. And, that’s largely how those games play out.

We usually look unprepared to start most games, but, especially against elite level teams. And, that is also unacceptable. It shouldn’t be that hard to get your team amped up & laser focused for opportunities to knock off elite opponents. Yet, we continually fall flat on our face with the game decided by halftime.

But, I also agree that we lose far too many games to equal & inferior teams. As tough as the schedule is every year, we can’t afford to lose the games that we SHOULD win, on paper. But, it’s pretty disappointing & rich to see Stoops making excuse after excuse when there is a laundry list of issues that have hindered the team & persisted throughout his tenure.

Maybe take some responsibility for the mess he’s in. He had no problem accepting the praise that came with building the program into respectability. It goes both ways. I could rattle off at least 10 problems in 10 seconds that he hasn’t changed/fixed, that would likely help matters. For the ppl who will assuredly ask:

Clock management
Halftime adjustments
Discipline (several areas)
Coaching scared or playing not to lose; never taking chances
Develop your depth with actual game reps, especially QBs
Use timeouts wisely
Stop micromanaging (philosophy & pace on both sides has his fingerprints all over it)
Show some urgency when it’s warranted
Develop a reliable, consistent passing attack
Introduce the passing game to the middle of the field
Put more emphasis on offense, in general
Control your emotions with referees (often argues thru several plays, unfocused on the now)
Develop QBs that you recruit from HS
Develop a killer instinct & crush teams when you can
End of half/game execution on both sides
Improve game preparation
Staff continuity

Those have all been issues from day 1, IMO, with little to no improvement over 11 seasons. But, it’s much easier to blame fans & the schedule. However, if you’re a HC in the SEC & complaining about the schedule difficulty, then you might be in the wrong place & should probably head somewhere with less competition.

Saying this on Saturday in the heat of the moment makes sense emotionally. Saying it on Monday makes it sound like he’s ready for the off season without seeing all the comment/context.

TOS has a FREE article on kind of a State of the Program that's a good read. Only thing I'll say about it is that it does NOT call for coaching changes either HC or assistants so if that's your thing you probably won't be interested.

Is SC top 10?

The top part of the schedule is very tough but we have also had 7 awful to below average teams we should have been able to go 7 and 0 against with ease. Stoops screwed that up though.
He also said that losing to SC was extremely hard because they had so many opportunities to win. Which came across to me as that was the ONLY loss that he felt should be scrutinized. Further proof that he just DOESN’T think he can compete against the ELITE teams.

If this is the case WHY is he being paid a top 10 salary???!!!!!

Stoops had a sort of worn out tone to his press conference but to be fair to him, I don't recall UK ever finishing a season with three of their last four on the road. And that one at home being Alabama was Vandy's November slot in the past if I remember right.

Toughest schedule in D1? I bet it is.
Nothing wrong with pointing it out because it’s F’in true.
It’s not but even if it was it isn’t even the record. It’s the performances. The thing that amazes me is this staff is the one putting out in the summer they might be ready to take on uga this year. Apparently they really don’t recognize good football.

BOO FCKN HOO! He is getting paid 9 million a year to " live it " either do the damn job or quit. I'm sure there are a SHIT TON of people willing to " live it " for 9 million a year. I'm sick of his Iowa football playing ass

The Stoops/Barnhart scheduling trick of beating up on 3 MAC teams, winning 3-4 games against the bottom of the SEC and then beating UofL to finish with 7-8 wins minimum is finally being exposed. Stoops has lived off of this carefully crafted schedule for several years. He got to $9 million per year because of it. And things are going to get a lot tougher for us in the SEC, starting next year.

You nailed it!

He also went on to say in the press conference that this is the last game many will play at UK and literally said some will enter the transfer portal.

Don’t think I’ve ever heard a coach say that before a player officially does it. Wow this guy is a clown.
