State of 2024 Recruiting

Selm is a solid OT. Watched him at rivals camp n kid looked like a million bucks.
All reports is UK wants him at OG. He may be able to play RT but most seem to think he doesnt have the length for the SEC. DK didnt either though and he did just fine.

It's all okay. I just don't put much trust in June predictions for the fall season. But I don't follow UC sports very much because they are in a lousy conference, except that I know John Cunningham is a top notch AD. I am not a defender of Satterfield and I don't care what happens to him. I enjoyed kicking his butt while he was at UL. FWIW, the situation at UL is such that Satterfield never really had a chance to get much done. And FWIW, I don't believe Brohm will do much better, because their athletics department is one of the worst in all of Power 5 athletics.

But I don't see any point in diverting this thread to discuss UC. I was only responding to another poster who seemed to think Satterfield suddenly gives UK a chance to sign more players out of Cincinnati, and I pointed out that Coach Marrow has been pulling good players out of Cincinnati all along. Generally, with an occasional exception, UK and UC are not the final two schools for the same Cincinnati area players. Alex Afari was one exception and Marrow got him. That was while Fickell was there.

All good. I live in Cincinnati so I get into with their fans all the time so I know probably too much about UC football. Keep up the good work with this thread. I enjoy following it

Who is there left at OT? Arkansas now leads for McRoy. Hopefully he visists this week but gonna be tough to land him. Daniels visited this week but he is a very long shot. Hopefully we have Ford back and Hall for next year. If the OL takes a big step forward this year as expected, maybe they can turn the OT recruiting around
Would still like to know what Hall's injury was that caused him to miss Spring.

I appreciate your thoughtful comment. Please keep following and adding.

I enjoy visiting Mt. Adams when I am in Cincinnati. Great vistas and some enjoyable watering holes.

As I understand it, this is the current list for this week's OVs.

Today (June 13)

Jadon Lafontant, OL, Greenwich, CT
Vaboue Toure, DB, Irvington, NJ

June 14

Jason Patterson, RB, Sneads, FL

June 15

Jiquavious Marshall, ATH, Macon, GA

June 16

Makai Byerson, LB, Midlothian, VA
Johann Cardenas, RB, Houston, TX
Kendall Jackson, DL, Gainesville, FL
JacQawn McRoy, OL, Pinson, AL
Tovani Mizell, RB, Ft. Lauderdale, FL
Dominic Nichols, DL, Ijamsville, MD
Caleb Redd, LB, St. Louis, MO
Jalewis Solomon, ATH, Ellaville, GA
Antonio White, WR/DB, Lilburn, GA

Wouldn't be surprised if 1-2 more OVs get added for the weekend.

Jaden Smith from Charlotte, NC, just committed to MI and may or may not show in Lexington on June 16. Most likely, MI's coaches will prefer for him to shut down his visits.

We should know a lot more about our 2024 RB recruitment a week from now.

Still waiting on a commitment from Willie Rodriguez. Should be a matter of time now unless Coach Marrow decides to pursue other TE targets.

Thanks Rembrandt.

Any feedback on the OL/DL camp on Sunday? Any new standouts? What about the DL from Lexington?
Thanks again.

I heard they had a great day. Camper Quaysheed Scott from Marion, SC, just received a UK scholarship offer, but he is not a lineman. UK is his first Power 5 offer.

We have speculated here several times recently about who might commit to UK this month. There are new public reports that WR Shamar Rigby from St. Petersburg, FL, may be leaning to UK now. Rigby, a big, long outside receiver, is being recruited by Coach Mike Stoops with secondary recruiting help from Coach Woodward. Rigby unofficially visited UK last week.

Good reports out there on how we are looking with Brian Robinson and Damarion Witten

Heywood was on commitment watch to PSU last month. Then after the Wisconsin visit they're ahead. Hopefully UK can make up ground on their visit. All 3 sites have Toure predicted to PSU

No inside info, but I think Deryc Plazz committing the weekend of his OV to PSU had something to do with Heywood going with Wisconsin.

Toure I'm not seeing much about. I'm not sure that PSU needs another S. Probably depends on a CB recruit, Jameer Grimsley.

Toure is supposedly on commitment watch to PSU and may not even visit UK

Yes, we are making a lot of progress. It would be great to sign either or both. But both have other OVs scheduled. They will take their visits and take the time to be sure they know what they want to do.

It was reported BRob canxellednhis PSU visit before visiting UK. He was going to camp at OSU and skipped it also. There was some talk that witten was considering cancelling his visits also. I think BRob will commit to UK but Witten will prob take his OSU visit and depend on how that goes

I feel good about Robinson based on what people are saying. But just for the record he did tweet today he’s on his way to Happy Valley for his PSU visit so that’s still on.

Just saw on Twitter Robinson's headed to Penn St as we speak on a visit.

I was shocked to see it, but apparently Robinson is on his way to PSU for a midweek OV. Kid looks like an absolute beast. I know he has been on campus a few times, but I've not heard much to indicate that we are anything beyond his 3rd favorite.

I'd say they put him with true sophomore Dani Dennis Sutton (former 5*, who is a Greek God gym beast type as well) and try to do some work. If he doesn't pick us, definitely hope he's a 'Cat instead of a Wolverine.

UM insider flipped his CB to UK yesterday. It looks like UM realizedbhe isnt going there and went another direction.

Yes. I am almost afraid to say this, but I agree Robinson's recruitment has turned toward UK. You mentioned recent conspicuous evidence. Robinson is from Youngstown. Coach Marrow and the Stoops family are also from Youngstown. So is Steve Clinkscale. Clinkscale has gone after Robinson hard, but it is looking more and more like the Big Dog is going to have his way with this one. For months, I have said I consider Robinson the most important recruit on UK's 2024 board, so this is very exciting. I just hope it works out. Originally I saw Robinson as a Jack LB in our 3-3-5. That could happen, but Robinson is getting bigger. He looks ripped. Now I think he is probably a future DE.

As you say, there is also circumstantial evidence that Witten might be turning toward UK. It is known that the Witten family had a great visit to Lexington last weekend. Contrary to what is said online, Witten is not a TE. After his visit, he described playing a role like Izaiah Cummings, meaning he would be an Hback and flex receiver. He sounds happy with that role. He would be a fantastic addition for Coach Coen.

I agree. I had said earlier he cancelled his PSU visit on the 16th, which was reported. What i didnt see is he moved it to the 13th. I still think UK has this. You mentioned him growing. He is a workout machjne. He got up at 6am on his visit and went to Bryan Station and was videoed doing workouts with hurdles. He is going to be really good and def could play DE. Jrow had said he didnt want to add more wait and play Jack. Either way he is def our biggest Def recruit

Brandon Rehmann committes to West Virginia
Cameron Monteiro visited Pitt instead of UK last weekend, so he is probably no longer under consideration. I wonder if Monteiro eliminated UK or if UK dropped Monteiro in favor of Shamar Rigby and Dorian Williams. Who knows? At this point, Stoops and Coen seem to be focusing on Witten, Rigby, Williams, David Washington, and Antonio White at the receiver position and Willie Rodriguez at TE.

Jalewis Solomon is coming in for a visit this weekend and could play DB or WR. Looks like FL St, SCar, and UK primarily battling for Solomon now. I noticed Solomon's half-brother Zayden Walker, also from Ellaville, is a fantastic LB prospect in the 2025 class.

he was interviewed on On3 saying all the schools he’s taking OVs to are recruiting him as a safety. But what does he know.
Condescending sarcasm noted. This is an instance of reality versus online recruiting chit chat. I was describing what his build can accommodate in the SEC. 170# athletes cannot succeed as safeties in our conference because of the requirements for run support. Examples are numerous, but we all know that multiple safeties have transferred away from UK in recent years and, with the exception of Tisdale, the reason was usually that they did not develop enough good weight to play the position in the SEC. You can see this by looking at the roster. White has a frame that can carry more good weight, but that will take years of work and development. If his scholarship is committable, they would take him and try to make a successful player out of him. UK's secondary is loaded with young athletes who are physically ready to compete.

This is the second time you have responded to me recently on this thread with trivial sarcasm. This is a substantive thread for which many posters are contributing informatively and conversationally. Think about it.

True and Wisconsin appears to be putting together a nice year.
Fickell waited a long time before leaving UC. Now he is at a Power 5 program. I don't think WI is the easiest place to recruit, but they have a history of playing high level football. Fickell should be successful there, and we can assume he will continue to recruit the Cincinnati area as well as nearby B10 states.

Brian Robinson currently has no more OVs scheduled after PA St. He has been to PA St, UK, and MI. He reportedly holds six B10 offers as well as GA and ND. His recent public comments have suggested he is closing in on making a decision. Have you heard anything about how his PA St visit went? Sure would like to get his commitment! Would be a real energizer for our defensive class.

Robinson could still be on the visit, didn't it just start Wed? But yes, I'd really like to get him committed.

Sorry if I missed this, but I have not seen a recruiting discussion from the viewpoint of assistant coaches. Coen got Boley. Marrow got Selm and Johnson. Stewart got Smith. So far so good.

Big recruiting weekend coming. Marrow is recruiting Williams. White recruiting Byerson, Groves, D. Nichols. Collins recruiting Jackson, White, Solomon. Boulware recruiting Mizell. Woodward recruiting Gilmore. Yenser recruiting McRoy, Daniels. Buffano recruiting Redd.

For recent visitors. Marrow recruiting Rodriguez, Witten, Robinson, T. Nichols. Boulware recruiting Patterson. Collins recruiting Keys. M. Stoops and Woodward recruiting Rigby.

Notable misses. Marrow probably missed on Kirks. White missed on the Smiths, Dunn, probably Toure. Boulware missed on Cardenas, Watson. Yenser missed on Hines, Heywood. Woodward missed on Law, Rehmann, Ross, Monteiro.

Lot to unpack there. From where I sit, Brad White and Scott Woodward are not having a very good recruiting year so far and Yenser has not gotten anything done. Will not judge Boulware yet. Sure would be good if Buffano can convince Redd and Yenser can convince McRoy. As usual Marrow is the leader.

Jacob Kauwe has made a visit to UK. Kauwe, a P/K from Billings, MT, is being recruited by Coach Boulware. So far, UK is the only visit he has scheduled. Evidently Boulware offered a scholarship after watching Kauwe punt at our specialist camp. Something could happen here. Boulware is going all out to build a new special teams culture here. I do not remember the last time UK recruited a prospect from MT.

Hardley Gilmore, a WR from Pahokee hs in Belle Glade, FL, will visit UK starting today. Gilmore is a 2025 prospect reclassifying forward to 2024. Gilmore reportedly holds offers from six SEC schools including GA and AL. He has average size for a receiver but reportedly has great speed, excellent hands, and superior athleticism. He was the best WR at a TX A&M camp last week. In addition to football, he runs track.

More on Coach Boulware.

Presumably, Jutahn McClain, Ramon Jefferson, and Ray Davis will use up their eligibility next fall. On paper, RBs Demie Sumo-Karngbaye, LaVell Wright, and Jamarion Wilcox will return in 2024. IOW, we will not have enough RBs on our 2024 roster. Conventional wisdom among online commentors seems to be that UK will need to sign two more RBs for our 2024 roster, and I agree. These could come from our 2024 recruiting class or from the transfer portal. But there is a difference. If we sign players in the recruiting class, our coaches have 4-5 years to develop them. The transfer portal has been a plug and play solution for immediate roster deficiencies. Sumo-Karngbaye and Wilcox will probably become the top two RBs on our 2024 depth chart, but new RBs will need to be developed for the future. So it would be ideal to sign two RBs in our 2024 class. Here are uncommitted 2024 RB prospects who have reportedly received UK scholarship offers-

Johann Cardenas
Anthony Carrie
TG Englemen
Brandon Hood
Diore Hubbard
Dilin Jones
D'Shawntae Jones
Travis Kerney
Tovani Mizell
Jason Patterson
Khyair Spain
Yasin Willis

Cardenas and D'Shawntae Jones recently cancelled visits to UK, and Cardenas is believed to be a heavy lean to Vandy now. Apparently Cardenas is a miss for Boulware. Carrie, Engleman, Hood, Dilon Jones, Kerney, Spain, and Willis either haven't expressed an interest in visiting UK or else haven't been encouraged to visit by our coaches. Boulware pursued Duke Watson but Watson committed to UL.

Patterson just completed an OV to UK, and Mizell will begin his visit today. On paper, both are very desirable prospects. It would be great to sign both, but Boulware clearly needs to sign at least one of them. Patterson is reportedly focusing on UK, BC, Rutgers, and UC. He is from FL, so our chances are looking fairly positive for now. Mizell was reportedly impressed by his visit to UNC last week. He visits UK this week and then OK next week. So his recruitment is a big challenge for Boulware.

Boulware is new to UK's staff. He made a fast positive impact on our special teams in spring practice, but we don't know yet how much impact he will have on RB recruitment. IMO he really needs to sign Patterson or Mizell.

Woodward's recruiting is disappointing; for a while his work on the 2022 class i thought we had found a surprising unexpected talent gatherer. Collins & Stewart are coming on. I was never a fan of promoting Buffano from front office to on field, nothing he's done recruiting has changed that opinion.

This may sound a little tentative coming from me, but I think it may still be too early to assess Coach Woodward as a recruiter. He recruited Shamar Porter and he helped with Nasir Addison. So it isn't like he has completely whiffed. Porter could become an important player for us. But this year has not been good for him up to this point. Losing Brandon Rehmann to WV and Emanuel Ross to a disintegrating Pac12 is not a good look. I can say this much for Coach Woodward. He is doing a really good job developing Key, Brown, and our other receivers. He understands how to teach. He has known Coach Coen for a long time, so their chemistry has to help. But I don't know how long he can last here if he doesn't become a more consistent recruiter.

I'd cut Woodward a little slack, he appears to be trying to expand UK recruiting to the East and Northeast. Takes awhile to expand into new territory.
