Star Wars: The Acolyte

And just to point out... This show was sold as a murder mystery. The murderer was revealed in the first 5 minutes and when you thought they were going to play on the twins maybe being the same person.... nope... they tell you it's twins right off the bat too. LOL. Now they've told us who the sith is so all we are waiting on is to see how the other POV of the witch burning comes out and probably one of the moms will come back to be a secret sith.... I'd guess the one with horns so they can tie it into Darth Maul.

Let's introduce all these characters that may develop into interesting characters and kill them off immediately. They weren't given room to earn those deaths and for the audience to care. Oh no they killed bad haircut gen z dick jedi! Anyway....

My suspension who Darth Bullet Bill was turned out to be true. Solid. He looks cooler with out the helmet btw.

If I want to watch something where two sisters are at odds with each other yet still care deeply for each other, I'd watch Arcane again which is brilliant.
Arcane was really good. Very unique takes.

Cared about the scrappy chick. Didn't feel a thing when New Jackt City went down.

The writing has killed this show. The twins have the dumbest backstory of any characters I have seen. The episode about the witches was a chore to watch (stupid chanting, the two mothers conceiving?). You have a cackling fire in space and fire spreading in a stone fortress with all these force-sensitive witches around. Then, you have cringe moments like asking the pronouns of that giant rodent.

The fighting choreography and use of cortosis made last episode solid. The reveal of the darkside user was pretty predictable, but that's fine. I just get sick of Mae who wants to kill Osha and her family, kill those Jedi Masters, then doesn't want to kill her sister and Jedi suddenly despite killing multiple Jedi already? I mean, her character is all over the board and makes no sense.

The action has been solid, but I feel like an 11 yo is writing the story. I feel like the antagonist is going to be tied back to the Knights of Ren because they used Kylo Ren's music. Other than the fighting last episode, it's been pretty awful. I hope it turns around and at least becomes "meh", but the writing doesn't give me a lot of hope.

There’s gotta be a big reveal of some sort tonight.
You'd think. It's almost like the people who promised a murder mystery in a galaxy far far away didn't actually know anything about mysteries or Star Wars. LOL.

Because one of the excuses for this is that it's for kids and old white guys aren't the target audience.... Is it for kids or nah?

I’m going to challenge a bit on the fight scenes. Headbutting a lightsaber?

His helmet is made from a material that temporarily causes lightsabers to short out (cortosis was something invented before this show in Star Wars lore), so it's like a surprise defense.

Episode 6 was a snooze-fest. I'm admittedly a Star Wars geek as you can tell, but this series has been awful.

Mandalorian was great until season 3. I tried watching Andor but just couldn't get into it, probably because my wife has to ask billions of questions about paint drying, and really turns it up a notch when it comes to sci-fi.

Disney just absolutely pillaged what little value there was left in that franchise. Sad, I guess, but it wasn't like George Lucas is Werner Herzog or anything.
Andor got really good. You should finish the season.

That is true... But when you introduce something from a book, that only 100000 people read, into a $180 million show... You might want to introduce it first before showing a dude headbut a lightsaber. Maybe if SmiloRen had given angry chick some to fight the first Jedi and explained it's properties and how rare and valuable it is... It might not come off as laffably funny.

Also, Disney has said the EU was out as canon. They selectively pick things to bring back in and it just makes everything so impossible to keep up with as to what is lore and what isn't. It's like the whole argument over Ki Adi Mundi age debacle. Dude shouldn't be alive. He was allowed to marry multiple women because his species has a short life span and he was the only male in his family... and they just made him 70 years older for no reason.

Dave Feloni has to go too. KK is horrible and is terribly unqualified to lead Lucas Film. But Dave running story group has been a debacle. He's shown that he will crap on Lucas to prop up his crap.

I pretty much drown out any review that's negative if it hinges on "wokeness" as the driving force.

That said, this show really isn't doing it for me.

Even if the people making it basically say that's what they are going for? Shouldn't the goal be to tell a compelling story and develop characters and have interesting dialog?

Feloni has done well on the animated side of things IMO.

Yes. But he is horrible on live action. It doesn't translate and he clearly has a vision that is different than Lucas. Doing some of this stuff in animation is OK but when you do it in live action it just looks weird. Ahsoka was a good character that almost everyone liked. Dave did a live series with a great actress, Rosario Dawson, and it fell flat on it's ass. Why get an actress like her and just have her stare and look bored?

Also, GL had what has been termed "gear porn". The Millennium Falcon was like a 1960 hot rod. Light sabers were cool future tech. The robots were actual characters. I still remember the "chess" board on the original Falcon. I remember the gun turrets. I can't remember a single ship or droid in this series. The whip saber was a cheap way to get people excited for a story with no plot.

The people running this are saying that the Jedi aren't good and that the Sith need to have their story told..... WHAT? Lucas clearly stated the Jedi were morally good and they always tried to do the most good.

Idk man Ahsoka was good. The worst thing about it is Ray Stevenson died and won't be able to reprise his role.

Rosario is a bit long in the tooth for a physical role like Ahsoka. Was like watching the old folks in the park with parts of the fight scenes. But I liked the series overall.

One thing to notice in the writing.... House Of The Dragon did a twin swap the exact same week that Acolyte did it. Nothing more needs to be said than to watch both episodes and realize that one dealt with all the issues of a twin pretending to be the other and how that plays out and one just....didn't.

Also... Ahsoka lost viewers. This show has fewer viewer than Ahsoka. At what point does Disney stop trying to force Mary Sue women into a boy brand and actually make a good show/movie?

That should just about kill this series. Dang that was probably the worst episode of tv Disney has ever done. $180 million and that is what you do. LOL.

And I want to make sure I got this right.... Instead of the force users being able to sense the force they have the same metal detector I bought my dad back in 2012? So you can scan the ground to find "the force" and don't have Jedi just "search their feelings"? I wonder if they got that detector on Amazon or at a local Walmart?

Or not.

I haven't watched it and have zero interest in it, but I'm happy for the people who are enjoying it. The OT is all the Star Wars I need; except for Andor (which I like), I haven't watched a single Star Wars movie or TV show since the last Star Wars movie I watched, The Last Jedi. None of that stuff's for me.

But The Acolyte -- I've never seen such divisive show. People are absolutely enraged over a freaking Disney sci-fi TV show, especially episode three. It's ridiculous.

Here's one example. The threads are insane.

Has anyone here watched it? What are your thoughts?
The ending was so derivative ugh.

The last episode, as with much of the series, was underwhelming. The twin switch was obvious from the beginning, nothing was really 'solved', the story was left in an obvious place that 'needs' a second season, etc. I don't feel I know much about these characters nor do I feel any desire to know them better. Lightsaber fights were good but the remainder of the series was frankly boring. If they're trying to kill Star Wars, this series is a positive step in achieving that goal.

My favorite part was the ship chase. She gets in a small ship and darts off into a debris field and says the Jedi's ship is too big to follow her in some crap homage to Empire, I guess. Turns out that isn't true, and he follows her easily. Then he starts targeting her to shoot her down (wtf?) Then the space beaver somehow knows that is what he is doing and sabotages the ship to stop him. Why??? Then she crashes on to the planet and walks away like she just hit a shopping cart in her SUV.

Is that something like a gaydar that was available in 2006 from Sharper Image? Looks like they're out of stock now.

And they never show Sol or the rodent conversing on why he did or anything.

The writing is possibly the worst writing in any show I've watched. I'm not saying worse writing doesn't exist, but this is the lowest quality of writing for a show that I continued to watch. I hope there isn't a second season; but if there is, they need to fire the writers and director and hire all new folks.

IMO, the biggest problem with the ongoing new series in the SW Universe is that they remain in the same basic time as the original movies (all 9). So, every huge fan is constantly checking on whether the new series stays loyal to 'canon' or deviates or contradicts. What someone ought to do is a series on the Great Sith War at least 1,000 years prior (or something else very far removed from original timeline) and then there wouldn't be the necessity to stay 'true' to the original. New characters, plenty of bad guys (multiple Sith), could develop into its own franchise while still remaining in the SW Universe. But, heck, what do I know? They keep making money off of unworthy product, where is the incentive to improve or be creative?

The 2 Knights of the Old Republic games are my favorite Star Wars stories outside of the original 3.

Iden Versio should be a movie or series. The actor is real and the story from battlefront II is a good story. They could have made this into live action.

Controversial take: Lee Jung-Jae (Sol) is a great actor, but his English makes it hard to stay focused on the story sometimes.

Bazil (the rodent) is obviously Darth Jar Jar’s apprentice.
