What purpose do you think it serves for those that stand the entire game?

There is this guy two rows in front of me that stands the entire game and blocks the view of the people behind him. They just roll their eyes. Of course, then that row has to stand to see and then my row can't see and so on and so on.

I can see standing and cheering on 3rd down on both sides of the ball, but this guy just stands and doesn't cheer much. Most of the time, he is the only one standing and looks all around to see if anyone else is. Only time he sits is when he's eating his nachos.

I think he's being rude and he's pissing a lot of folks off. I have bitten my tongue so far. Some people can't stand the whole game and it's not like it's really helping just because you stand the whole game.

Just a question, but why do you think it is okay on 3rd down but not the entire game? Personally I have no problem standing the entire game if that is what the crowd is doing but I also try to be considerate to those sitting around me. I think the players cannot really tell (if they are focusing on the play) if the fans are sitting or standing but I do think they can tell if the fans are cheering or not. I actually think there is something psychological that makes us think we are cheering harder and louder if we are standing versus sitting even though that really is not the case. I still find myself jumping up and cheering during crucial plays whether it be football or basketball (and also whether I am at the game or at home lol).

I agree with you OP. If the entire section is standing, or a large group is standing, go for it. But for 1 guy to stand is rude imo.

First...I wouldn't want to be in your section because of you not the guy standing. Secondly I will be glad when the bb fans that come to football games...my section is bad....is that YOU DO NOT STAND AND CHEER WHEN YOUR TEAM IS ON OFFENSE UNLESS WE ARE SCORING OR RIGHT AFTER A BIG PLAY because the qb needs to communicate with the team..Then, I go to the games live to enjoy the atmosphere of the game and to PARTICIPATE in cheering to help the team

SMH... I try to be sensitive to everybody, but seriously, my stance is stand up or shut up. If you are into the game, you are standing (unless you have a physical limitation and in that case, UK has special seating for you). This is not Rupp Arena. I understand you paid good money for your seat, but so did the guy that is standing. The only time you should be seated is during a timeout.

When I go to games I stand when there is a big play happening or when the game gets a little tense towards the end. Otherwise I am content to sit and cheer. My daughter, whose is just a tick under 5 feet tall, hates it when people in front of her stand for no apparent reason, but she understands that it is a sporting event and makes the most of it.

Time will come in your life where you won't be standing for a long period of time. Rude and arrogant for someone to stand for an extended period of time too. Curse the one's who are older, but you WILL be one of them if you live long enough.

I got there a lot quicker than I thought I would too. And most likely you will be saying the same thing. [winking]

Standing all the time disrespects the people behind you imo. The tickets mark your seat, not your stand. And why would they put pads & back on the seats if you weren't supposed to use them?

Can't really bitch about fans that want to stand and cheer, but like one poster said some people can't stand for long periods of time. I'm one of them.

This shouldn't be that hard ...

"• It's not OK to stand just because it's your personal tradition or you think it's good luck for your team. If the other 75,000 people are sitting down, don't be a jerk.

• It is OK to stand before key situations (like a third down on defense or a restart for a NASCAR race), even if you're one of the few. Maybe you'll inspire your fellow fans to stand. But don't stand longer than you need to if no one else is.

• It's not OK to stand as the visitor in an opposing stadium and provoke the home fans. Well, maybe it's technically OK, but we don't recommend it, seeing as how you're asking to get your ass kicked.

• It's always OK to jump up and cheer whenever you feel like it; but you should probably sit back down after the play."

I love our new section because we almost all stand, cheer, having a good time at an entertainment event during the game. Crazy talk, I know. Sports and entertainment going together? What madness, Seriously, I get there are exceptions that some people can't stand during the game. There isn't really a right answer. People that stand are going to get aggravated if you ask them to sit down and people are going to be aggravated if they can't see.

The pro standing stance for me comes from this. People argue that standing doesn't make it louder in the stadium but I would argue that's not the case. Most have a dress code to go to work. Would you work any harder or any less if you wear a polo shirt or a t-shirt? You're initial thought is no, but you feel more professional in a polo shirt and dress slacks than a t-shirt and shorts. When you stand, you just get louder quicker and it just charges you up more.

Thanks Jason. I didn't know there was ettique printed, but it's needed. I don't want to get anyone ejected unless they get mouthy, but a little consideration for others goes a long way.

Everyone in our section stands and cheers when a significant situation presents itself, but to stand the entire game when others don't is just inconsiderate.

I am old with a bad back and when I attended games I stood when the fans around me stood. I actually quit attending games when the standing became more of the norm than sitting. I felt I can sit in front of my large HD screen and let someone else enjoy the game in the standing position if they choose to do so. Everybody has a choice whether to buy a ticket or not.

When you stand you can yell and cheer louder. When you go to a concert the singer is almost always standing because it opens up the airway from your belly to your throat (save your solo acoustic act in the coffee house). When you go to church is the choir standing or sitting when they sing? They're standing. When someone gives a speech in public are they standing at the microphone or sitting? They're standing.

Bottom line, if you want to sit and be quiet, stay home. Or move to the upper corners where you'll have no problem sitting and seeing, quietly.

Amen, I now have pick and choose when to stand during a game, so I choose to do it when we are on defense. Besides never really understand making noise while we are on offense expect for a big play. I can remember Coach Mumme getting pretty upset with the crowd when they made noise during offensive plays. LOL

If the university only knew about this standing thing when building the stadium, they could have saved a lot of money by not putting seats in certain sections and seats in some sections. They could have saved a fortune.

I used to agree with you. But having reached the age of retirement and being with many friends that have had knee replacements, hip replacements, etc. etc. it is physcially demanding, painful and just can't be done for significant lengths of time for those folks. These people have a very hard time getting to the 38th row in the top section, let alone standing the whole game. Consideration is for everyone is great. I don't think sitting keeps people from cheering and cheering loudly - I still support that and I think most everyone agrees on supporting the team. Standing on third down - if that makes you feel like your supporting the team more - go for it! Just realize not everyone has the endurance to stand the whole game - although I try if I can.

Go Big Blue!

I agree with you on cheering during offense. I couldn't believe when we broke out the "Go Big Blue" chant when UK was driving for their final score.

I agree with the poster above saying that standing does allow for a louder sound and cheer. That said, I think it is appropriate to stand for big plays and important times during the game, but not a necessity for 4 straight hours unless you are an intoxicated 18 year old in the student section. Be respectful of those that are older, with kids, etc. who are not capable of standing the entire game. Standing some of the time should be an expectation.....standing or sitting all of the time should not.
IMO, if you have reached the point in your life you can't stand at all during the game, it may be time to invest your time and money in a 70 inch flat screen.

I am 65 and when I get to old to stand I will go the handicapped sec or stay home

I am the biggest hypocrite fan in the world as to this subject.

I love it when the fans are up and going crazy.

I hate it when it is the guy right in front of me.

I'm not a big hoopla kind of guy, but I think the crowd is very important to the game.

I am an idiot that watches more than just the ball. The lineman, the db's, wr's, lbers -

I am too busy looking for execution, opportunities, etc, like I am freaking Vince Lombardi instead of just enjoying the game.

I should probably go back to my younger years and start drinking again at the tailgate...

The choir is performing. Those in audience are sitting. Your correlation is stupid

Dodged a bullet there. I thought the OP was talking about me until he brought up the nachos thing. I'm too full from the tailgate to eat stadium food. Anyways, my section this year has been standing for a lot of the game. Not because of me, it's actually the guys behind me encouraging it. Plus my 14 year old son who's with me, kinda has insisted on it too. I have to think there is some correlation between the crowd noise, and the fans cheering every down more this year as opposed to just 3rd downs, and the higher level of defensive performance. I think the players are feeding off of that.
