Agree. The ONLY way anyone considers a Cal return is if it comes with some combination of Reed, DJ, Z, Bradshaw, Adou returning. Get 3 or 4 of them back plus keep most of the incoming guys and I can easily see Mitch agreeing to it.
However, not sure how you lock that in or determine that before a decision needs to be made.

I agree he has done some things for the state of Kentucky and I agree that he is done some things for his pros that go to the NBA but what the hell has he done for the program! When you read or hear or see anything
about uk basketball it is about how much the program has fallen.

Why would anyone want to run it back? Like seriously we just expect these guys to make a huge leap in defense? It’s just a bad idea if Mitch allows this to happen. All next season Cal will be playing for his job and it’s going to get even more ridiculous, the pressure next season will be at an all time high and fans still will not trust him. He is stuck in his ways and if he didn’t change 4 years ago then what makes you think Cal will change now?

Exactly. And I believe that’s why he dan b dismissed for cause. He had divided loyalty. He created his own conflict of interest and did not act in the best interest of his employer .
For years, it's definitely been all about his agenda. Nothing to do with UK. Imo that's why he created the nil fund of that name. That fund is for his players. Not for UK.
There is no way you let Cal run it back, you’re risking so much by doing that. If the season is a failure then you wasted another year. Instead you can already have a new coach and be building the program back to the “gold standard”

I don't even that would do it. As they said, the first loss in November will be like a season ending loss in March. They mentioned something about a total rehaul of his staff. Been there, done that (Orlando and Chin). Hasn't help. It's not the assistants. It's the HC. That is the seat that needs a change.

I would run it back with the incoming class plus Reed, Edwards, Z, and Thiero. Edwards has shown enough at the end of the year where there could be two All Americans in that group. Get a shooter from the portal and see what happens.
I think from a risk assessment stand point it's the safer bet (Only if a core like that returns. If they all leave and we try the same thing yet again with just the freshmen we need to move on yesterday). It's another year watching Reed, decreases the buyout, allows another year to see if there are any sure thing Cal replacements, and we'd still have a good team.
You’re risking way too much by allowing Cal to return. You just expect these guys to all of a sudden learn to guard a player? On top of that you put a tremendous amount of pressure on the team, every game will have to be won and a run would have to be made. That’s a lot of pressure for a team to have.
The program would be in the same exact position next year if we repeat this again. It's not going to turn us into Indiana overnight. Let's say we hire Drew next year instead of this year. It won't change the trajectory of the program in the least. People are really overstating the "program is being killed a little bit each day" talking point. In 2024 programs aren't killed. Your program is only as good as your coach.
The next coach is still a huge unknown. If we knew exactly who the hire would be that's one thing. Tell me for sure Drew is coming next year and let's go, I'll sign up for that. But what happens when we fire Cal and the first five names turn us down. You'd really be looking down the barrel of an Indiana type situation where you're stuck with a coach regardless of how bad he his because paying two buyouts just isn't going to happen.

That happens when the coach doesn't conditioning his team or have hard practices. Our program has lost its toughness bc he's scared to miss on a 5*.
For all the talk about guys putting in hours in the gym maybe they should do it as a team.

Exactly. I do NOT want DJ back. I think IF Cal made any promises (and that's a big if, cause we really don't know for sure) it was to DJ and his family. He couldn't let DJ go to Louisville. His ego couldn't have taken that. Now Bradshaw, that's another story. Cal didn't play him much in the game. I don't know what that was about. If Bradshaw were to come back, he needs to spend the ENTIRE summer in the weight room and add some muscle. He's afraid of contact (as are some others), but he looks like a toothpick and he just gets pushed around. Then MAYBE he would be better next year. But DJ is the only one I don't want back for the reason listed above. And he's just a decent player, not a great player. Of course I would like Reed, Thiero and Z back. I sure do wish Reeves had another year😀!
Not sure why you wouldn't want him back unless there is a proven big time player in the portal cause I would take him over a unproven freshman
To the extent that option existed, it was last year.
This season was the one that was supposed to return us to greatness, or at least prominence. Not a loss in the first round of both tourneys and no SEC title either.
Hit the road, Cal. You've had more than enough time and you have failed.
There is no value in bringing back DJ.

You lose credibility if you think there is value in having players on the team who don't have to earn their playing time. It should be obvious to anyone who was paying attention that DJ's playing time looked more like making good on a promise than production driven.

Thiero is only here because his father played for Cal. His dad was critical of the fan base several times on social media this year. There's likely zero chance he returns if Cal is out.

Gosh, if only your message wasn’t copied and pasted 10,000 times as well. Our fans are so creative and always able to come up with an original thought.
What makes you think anything would change next season? The leader of this bunch marched out a starting lineup of players who he knew were not his best starters while knowing that game was one of the most important games of his career. So why do you think next year would be any different? DJ's family would put him in the portal before allowing him to be demoted.

Honestly nothing, I’m ready for cal to get of Lexington and to hit a reset on the program. But every damn update every other hour changes. One hour it’s looking like cal is gone, and the next it’s looking like he will get another chance
One thing is for certain change doesn't occur while repeating previous mistakes.
