If we're going to realistically look at getting to Catlanta, we need a win by Bama this weekend!

I believe that 6-2 can get us there, which I think is very possible assuming we beat everyone expected and split between Tennessee and UGA.

UGA can lose to Bama, and then some combination of Florida, Tennessee, or us.

Tennessee already dropped one to UF, and has to play UGA, Kentucky, @ Alabama, and @ Mizzou. I think it's safe to say they drop at least 2, maybe even 3 of those.

Florida has to play #3 Ole Miss this weekend, and they have to play UGA, @ LSU, and @ Mizzou, and I could even see them losing @ South Carolina.

6-2 is very realistic for us considering we only play 1 more ranked team the rest of the way (UGA), and have a favorable home schedule.

I'm holding off complete and utter optimism on that front until I see us beat Auburn and maybe even Miss St. We win those 2 and I'm all ears. I would love to win the East but unless Georgia loses 2+ and one of those is to us, I'm gonna be extremely happy if we could grab 2nd. 5-3 in the East could do it depending on who we beat. That's 9 wins assuming we also beat EKU/Charlotte/UL.

But I love that we are actually able to discuss such a thing without ridicule. Cats really do look good and the defense could get us to 9 wins. Offense starting to come around as well.

What other convoluted scenarios do you Mel kiper Jr's have cooked up for us 25% into the season.

Next I'll be told to root for Louisville because it's good for the state.

OP can always switch his bama pom poms to cardinals. They're both red.

Okay genius who "NEVER roots for any other team besides UK EVER under ANY circumstances because you're too cool"..

How could any TRUE Kentucky fan not root for ANY and ALL scenarios that benefit Kentucky?!

Georgia losing benefits Kentucky. It's THAT simple.

Even a 3rd grader could figure that out (which I can safely assume isn't too far off from your current age).

The simple answer is that you're not a true Kentucky fan, or that you don't have any real knowledge of football or conference scenarios. Both of which are equally likely in your case.

Listen, son. I don't need to pull for Alafreakingbama for Georgia to lose.

Write this down in the diary you go to everyday after getting bullied in life: Georgia is still coached by Mark Richt. He'll lose games.

But continue to urge everyone to roll tide while at the same time accusing them of not being true blue fans. Well thought out argument you got going on there, son.

I just can't see a realistic path for UGA to get to three losses, or us beating UGA.
This is the issue. Let's say we do end up 6-2 in conference. One of those wins would have to be against UGA because I do not see them losing 3 games in conference.

Hey now. As a Kentuckian there's nothing wrong with cheering for Louisville, unless you just don't like any of the other in state schools either.

A Bama loss will definitely help our cause. Anyone who has been watching the games can see Kentucky is improving rapidly and we have several really big time stars emerging on both sides of the ball. Georgia is the favorite to win the East and Florida next but Kentucky falls right in there after that and with our favorable schedule we definitely have a shot at the East IMO.

I look for the Tide to bounce back this week off of a devastating loss last week that featured 5 TOs.

Alabama: 34
Georgia: 28

Go Tide! (sorry Grumpy)

Not necessarily suppose you have a 3 way tie with identical 7-1 or 6-2 records. A beat B B beat C and C beat A - no decisive winner, then OOC record comes into play. Florida has to play FSU, Georgia has to play GaTech, we have to play the Ville. The rest are mostly cupcakes. I like our chances in that situation.

Besides that, beating Georgia is not an impossible task. Last season in the SEC there were 4 occasions where an unranked team beat a top 10 team and another where a #24 team beat a top ten team. Upsets do happen.

I am all optimism, but find it very difficult to see things setting up for us to win the East. It is all about having to travel to Athens. It is very hard for me to see us winning between the hedges this season. We need a dominant offensive line that we still lack. It is best to be able to move the ball with a blunt instrument running game when on the road in the SEC. I can, however, imagine us winning every game remaining on our schedule except that trip, though it is quite unlikely we will. Too many toss up (or nearly so) games in the mix.

To the point of the OP, sure, why not pull for Bama? It is definitely a UGA "L" we need to see happen if anything wacky is going to develop.

Cat on cat violence. This is getting interesting.

At this point, I'm pulling for Georgia because Richt is a class guy and it's always been my second favorite SEC program. I don't dislike Bama, I just like Georgia more. All the other stuff is too convoluted at this point. Maybe it if was late November....

The Florida loss is really going to hurt us down the stretch. With that said, realistically looking at it, here is the most likely way for UK to make it to Catlanta...

Kentucky 6-2 Losses vs. Florida, @ Georgia

Georgia 5-3... Losses @ Tennessee, vs. Alabama, @ Florida

Florida 5-3... Losses vs. Ole Miss, @ Missouri, @ LSU

Tennessee 4-4... Losses @ Florida, @ Alabama, @ Kentucky, @ Missouri

Need South Carolina to beat Missouri this weekend.

Not so sure I want UK to win 9 games this year, could you imagine the expectations the fan base would have for the next few years............talk about unrealistic.

In other news, Alabama's all time "Vegas" record of 72 straight games being favored is about to end. Last time they were underdog, in 2009 SEC championship game, they made Tim Tebow cry.

I wonder which team is 2nd? I seem to remember the Reggie Bush era USC teams going more than two seasons in a row being favored every game, and have to believe Miami Fla had some really long streaks of being favored, when they were just obliterating everyone they played.

But 72 games?? Damn, that is going to be like Dimaggio's hit streak.

Impressive.

Agree that it's not an impossible task

IMO, if we end up 6-2, it's with losses to Florida and Georgia. If either or both of those teams finish 6-2, we'd be out due to head-to-head.

Don't really understand the fans not cheering for Bama to Beat GA. I don't care how bad I hate a school, if it helps Kentucky in any way, I'm going to do it. I don't care how classy GA's coach is or how sleezy Bama's coach can be. It's not about Bama or GA or even their coaches. It's about the best situation for Kentucky football. Ga will lose a game or two, but just in case, I'm rooting for the west over the east in any game other than UK.

I would never pull for Alabama. They are one of my most hated teams.

Mojo and Merriman are you guys serious? (I do not think we will be close enough for it to matter)

But you guys would root for another team to win because you like the coach or you "hate" a certain team EVEN if it depended on UK winning the East Region?

Really? I understand who you root for has zero bearing on what exactly transpires, but I am at a loss with a couple other posters here as to your statements.

Yea we wouldn't that for heave sakes, that excitement and stuff is a real bummer. Fans should also remember that no matter how good we are, we are still Kentucky, a basketball school that wins 6 football games a year and is happy. [sick]

I guess we could pull for UL to win the rest of their games so when we beat them it will look really good. :-/

I can't stand Bama any more, tires if hearing about them and they get the cream of the crop recruits and should never lose a game. They hired a douche bag in Kiffin as their OC. That's all you need to know about them.

Your first sentence isn't really relevant as the topic is UK in the standings, which unlike the Top 25 has nothing to do with SOS or perception.

I agree with your comments on Bama, still wouldn't prevent me from rooting for them if it meant UK would take the East Title if UGA lost to them.

It's all conjecture, but it is interesting to see posters who would prefer that their like for a coach or dislike for a random team takes precedence over their desire to see UK as Divisional Champs.

I've been having the same argument in another thread.. a diehard UK fan is hoping Bama wins. PERIOD.

I really am at a loss for words
