Something that might be little but so BIG in my eyes…

Pope doesent take a player out for the rest of the first half when he picks up a 2nd foul. Something we got used to the last 15 years under cowipari. He would take a player completely out of the game by doing that. And he’s still doing that Arkansas. And there’s already been a few instances this year where we notice it’s made a big difference in big games this year by letting a player keep playing after 2 fouls.

He does sometimes. Seems like a case by case basis

Depends on when it happens in the half. But I bet u can’t name 1 time where a player picked up his 2nd foul in the first 5-6 minutes and that player never saw the floor the rest of the half. Unlike what we’re used to in the past.
Yeah it happened with Butler a few games ago. Don’t you remember Pope second guessing it in the post game where he said he thought he might have fouled his own player out?

That said, Pope is killing it with erring on the side of keeping guys in the game. I love it

I’m guessing you are referring to the Clemson game when he picked up his 2nd foul around the 15:00 min mark of the first half? He played again in that half

I’m not sure if that’s the one or not. Definitely remember Pope acknowledging he regretted sitting Butler

That is the game u are talking about. And he did mention regret sitting butler some, plus also trying to get him breaks with the ankle issues he had in that game, but it wasn’t a complete shutdown for him in the first half with 2 fouls which is kinda what i was getting at.

Thiero picked up 2 early fouls yesterday for Arkansas and cal set him down for the rest of the half. Against the number 8 team in the country. In a game their team desperately needed. And Ado is by far their best player. Just a breath of fresh air not to have to deal with that anymore

I think this is a non-issue either way. What matters are wins and losses, and if Cal played guys w/ 2 fouls in the first half, I don't think it appreciably impacts his record one way or another.

Adou ended up fouling out yesterday anyway.

Cal has no idea how to actually coach- think he reads the book "Coaching for Dummies"

Pope plays 10 plus players Cal usually sticks with 7 maybe 8 at best. Plus Cal dribbles the seams off the ball and is usually dependent on 2 or 3 ball handlers to make a play one on one. Pope has an actual offense, these guys trust each other and look for each other.

My favorite change is we don’t play not to lose when we have a lead with 5 minutes to go. No stall ball and throwing up a prayer as shot clock expires.

Another thing I see is Pope does not pull a player for missing shot or two. He encourages them to keep shooting. Cal would pull players and it seem to destroy their conference. I like that with Pope.
