Somebody fire up some mock starting lineups

Quade
Diallo/Johnson
Knox
PJ
Bamba

I see Vanderbilt as the perfect 6th man off the bench.

I know it hanst been announved but I think Vanderbilt is out til at least Jan and from there Cal will probably hold him out the rest if the year especially if we arent struggling. So with that said lineup is:

Green
Baker
Knox
Gabriel
Richards

If we get diallo back he starts at 2G. If Bamba signs he starts at C.

Vanderbilt out a whole year? Where are people hearing this ?

Green
Knox
Vanderbilt
Washington
Richards

My gut says Bamba goes to Duke. Gabriel and SKJ will get chances at the PF. Alexander and Baker will back up the 1 & 2.

* If the rumor of Vanderbilt injury being more serious is true ( and I haven't seen that anywhere but this board), then I see sliding Knox to the 3 and Alexander at the 2.

Vando out a year, Bamba to Duke. What is going on in here this morning? LOL.

Oh I have no inside info whatsoever. I haven't heard a thing about Vanderbilt outside of what the couple guys posted. I really hope that's not true. He's the "MKG" glue guy this team needs to be great. Bamba just has always felt like a Duke guy to me. He's a great student and I feel like his parents may push him toward Duke. For what it's worth I felt all along we had a better chance with Knox than most did. Mostly because I thought Diallo was gone and Cal was selling Knox on playing the 2.

This hasnnt been announced....just my opinion that his injury is bad enough to keep him out til Jan/Dec but Cal will opt to keep him out until the following year.

What injury do you think he could sustained that would keep him out anywhere that long? Wouldn't it pretty much take some highly unusual microfracture situation or something like that.

You have him on pretty much an ACL/MCL time line with no reason to think any such thing is a concern. Breaks, torn ligaments, most fractures, you name it, even the worst case scenarios for ankle injuries would have him back before the season.

Are you sure your feeling isn't just taking the worst case you can imagine then add 50% as not to under estimate and then mentally prepare for the unexpectedly negative as not to risk disappointment?

In a situation that one can take no action to change no matter what anyway, it seems the best practice that in the absence of information to just wait for more data rather than wringing hands and waxing all fatalistic.

Again no inside info just a gut feel. If it wasnt serious i think the family would come out and say it but they havent. He was writhing in pain and had to be helped off the court. The family not saying anything is perfectly logical especially if it is serious because they dont want the nba to hear their son is injury prone (remember he broken his right ankle one yr prior so they have a reason to worry the nba will grow leery about his injuries). You are right about most injuries requiring 7 monhs but then there is the time he needs to get in shape and to catch up with rest of team who has been playing all summer....this is why I say he wont be 100% until SEC play. At that point Cal has to ask himself does it make sense to insert a player into an established rotation? Unless we are struggling or need a skil set that JV has I think the answer is no, it doesnt nake sense to insert him which is why i say Cal holds him out intil 2018-19 season.

IMO if HD leaves it will probably look something like this...positionless with talent busting at the seams off the pine.

Green
Johnson
Knox
Gabriel
Bamba

My guess is Diallo stays in draft, Johnson has moved on and we get Bamba.
Green/Shai
Knox/Baker
Washington/Vandy
Gabriel/Vandy
Bamba/SKJ/Richards

Don't forget that if Diallo comes back Diallo can guard 1-3 and Vanderbilt can guard 1-4. Our defensive versatility could be off the charts next year. Green will play PG and Richards will play C but SG,SF, and PF will be interchangeable with several of our guys. next year and don't be surprised if guys are playing different positions on offense and defense within the game next year. Individual match ups will be paramount over traditional position's with the team next year.
