Johnson and Jackson ran 4.50 and 4.51 forty yard dash. That's pretty impressive and will be difficult to replace.

While bench press isn't everything, Ox (13!), Rybka (20) and Deone (22) did not impress. Maybe Walker is still dealing with his back injury. But Ox and Rybka - piss poor. Might explain our DL performance last year somewhat. A DL who only benches 225 13 times shouldn't see the field much, imo. By comparison, Eli and Marques Cox both did 25 and JJ did 26.

Mincey did 20 bench reps and ran a 5.89 40. Good lord, I thought we had better athletes than that.

Did you watch any of our games last year???

There is a HUGE problem in our strength and conditioning program. We are not SEC level.

That's pretty much verbatim what I said, wasn't it? Even in the most recent KSR interview, Stoops said he was excited about all the hard work in the weight room and our S&C staff had done a great job. Based on what the Pro Day numbers were for some of our guys, I'd have to vehemently disagree. Several of those numbers are just plain embarrassing.

Yes. I was just agreeing with you.
Weakest team in the SEC.

But what is perplexing, I get all the portal/NLI stuff...and even the Gran, Coen, Scang, back to Coen and now Bush offensive confusion....Stoops simply is a defensive guy who has to hire an offensive mind.

But why would these S&C program dip so much....it's the same staff for the most part?

I don't know the length of Walker's arms but they look long enough to pull his socks up without bending over. For his arm length his numbers aren't awful.

I don't know, but Deone played with a fracture in his back all year. I'm guessing that probably hindered his lifting ability. I'm conceding that his numbers might be artificially low. But, the others? Damn.

Its on the player. If it was the program everyone would suck. Instead it was mostly DL that tested weak.

Sure seems like DL were coddled the last few years based on these results. Those bench numbers are embarrassing.

Oxendine just never got any better after 2021. TBH, he probably knows he is a longshot pro prospect, wonder how much lifting he did between end of season and pro day.

But overall, our D line as a group has failed to develop for years now

When I was in college I weighed 165 and could do 225 10 times. Ox should have been able to do more than 13 without trying.

Agreed. And, yes, the fault lies mostly on the players' lack of dedication. However, coaches are tasked with motivating them and, failing that, sitting their unmotivated a$$ on the bench. If that doesn't motivate them (and/or other players), then the staff has completely lost the team. Which may still be TBD.

For a DL Ox's number was pretty low. I am sure the back injury hindered Walker's training, but those guys with the big numbers just are built like him, they are usually shorter armed, barreled chested. They don't have to push the weight near as far as Walker does, he is fighting physics.
