Here is what almost everyone agrees on. Nobody is going to be happy that Dane Key, Barion Brown, Khamari Anderson, and Keeshawn Silver are leaving in the portal. Nobody will be happy when we learn about other Wildcats who will enter the portal this coming week.

We are assuming Brock Vandagriff and Gavin Wimsatt will transfer out. Neither has a future in Coach Hamdan's offense.

But players come, and players go. It happens everywhere. These are the times.

OTOH, I have been reading what former UK players including Kash Daniel, AJ Rose, and Quinton Bohanna have recently said about this team. For those who haven't seen it, Bohanna explicitly absolves Stoops and our coaching staff. All three former Wildcats reinforce Stoops' current path forward by placing blame on the shoulders of unfocused players intoxicated by NIL and lacking the necessary mental discipline to work through any significant competitive challenges. Bohanna's comments are particularly poignant and you should google them if you haven't already.

Be that as it may, I missed part of this season while recovering from an illness. When I re-engaged with college sports around Halloweenish, just after the loss to Auburn (which I DVRed), I didn't know what to make of the slide because I hadn't actually witnessed enough of it. But I am catching up fast now while I do my cardiac rehab.

I like our 2025 recruiting class a lot. It is sad to lose Tucker Kattus and Marquise Davis, but it is good to add Dyllon Williams, Grant Grayton, and Cameron Miller. These are somewhat overlooked additions but good players. Especially Miller. Strengths of this class are significant. OTOH, only 2-3 of these incoming freshmen will be ready to contribute by September.

Next year's team will open with 4 nonconference games. The first three are on our schedule to serve as formalized scrimmages and near certain wins. The fourth game is UL in Louisville, and that one will serve as an early measure of whether Stoops, Hamdan, Wolford, and White have succeeded in making necessary roster improvements and attitude adjustments. After that will come the SEC schedule. FL, Ole MS, TN, and TX will visit KF. UK must travel to Auburn, GA, SCar, and Vandy. There is no point in fearing the schedule until we know what we are dealing with and what weapons we will have by October. All these teams are in flux. Not just us.

But just to assure there will be talent, let's piece this together as of today. Of course, changes are not over yet. Obviously, nearly every offensive position and some defensive positions will gain players from the portal between now and summer. Effectiveness of these portal additions will go a long way toward determining eventual success of our 2025 team.

QB- Cutter Boley, Stone Saunders, Brennan Ward

RB- Chip Trayanum, Jamarion Wilcox, James Patterson, Tovani Mizell

WR- Jacori Maclin, Brandon White, Hardley Gilmore, Fred Farrier, David Washington

TE- Josh Kattus, Willie Rodriguez

OL- Jalen Farmer, Dylan Ray, Koby Keenum, Jaden Burton, Malachi Wood, Anfernee Crease, Aba Selm, Marc Nave, Hayes Johnson, Daniel Mincey

DL- Josaih Hayes, Kahlil Saunders, Tavion Gadson, Austin Ramsey, Kendrick Gilbert, Jerod Smith, Brian Robinson, Dennious Jackson

OLB- Steven Soles, Caleb Redd, Jacob Smith

MLB- D'Eryk Jackson, Daveren Rayner, Devin Smith

WLB- Alex Afari, Grant Godfrey, Antwan Smith, Quintavion Norman

CB- JQ Hardaway, Terhyon Nichols, DJ Waller, Nasir Addison

S- Jordan Lovett, Ty Bryant, Jantzen Dunn, Quaysheed Scott, Cam Dooley, Jaden Smith, Quavo Marshall

P- Aidan Laros

PK- Jacob Kauwe

DE Darrion Henry-Young will petition for another year of eligibility due to time missed with multiple injuries. He could help us. I have heard Beau Allen may petition for an extra year.

Given this information, you can easily see which positions need help from the portal. But there is more quality depth on this roster than people might realize at first blush. Of course, a few of these names may still leave before next fall.

There are some very good players on the list who have not yet had enough playing time to impact the team. I am a big fan of Willie Rodriguez, Grant Godfrey, Terhyon Nichols, Nasir Addison, and Quaysheed Scott. Jacob Kauwe has a big leg and will apparently inherit the PK job. Some other dark horses for seasonal breakouts could be DJ Waller, Daveren Rayner, Jaden Smith, Caleb Redd, Tavion Gadson, Brian Robinson, Tovani Mizell, and David Washington. All are good, talented players.

True freshmen Stone Saunders, Martels Carter, Kalen Edwards, and Dejerrian Miller will probably be in their playing rotations from the get-go. Maybe Quintin Simmons, Cameron Miller, Mikkel Skinner, Javeon Campbell, or Andrew Purcell if they play themselves into a role in practice.

Let's not waste time debating or criticizing this as if it is a final roster, when everyone knows there will be forthcoming portal additions, some of whom will start. But it is a foundation, along with the recruiting class.

It is known that Stoops has already offered former Western Carolina OT Derek Simmons, a 6'6" 325# brute currently in the portal. There will be more, and we will see how it goes.

There’s no way to absolve coaches of the player issues. Just because those players see things as run a certain way in their time doesn’t mean it still is. We all know the environment over there has changed.

1. Coaches choose the players they take
2. It is the coaches primary job to develop culture.

I thought DJ was graduating this year.

IMO, it mainly depends on OL transfers and filling some holes in the defense. If we don't see significant improvement from the OL, we could very well be looking at 3-4 wins next year.

I think rolling with Brock in ‘25 rewards us exponentially in ‘26 and ‘27 , while going thru the typical fist year starter pains . I remember throwing Woodson to the wolves and getting great moments in ‘05 , then getting elite play in ‘06 and ‘07 . Love our running back room , and certainly o-line is a priority …let’s see what NIL can get us at line . Maybe we can pick up a couple studs, looking for a better payday

At least the 2025 schedule I looked at only had 4 games that had dates, the rest are TBA. UL is still the last games and UK doesn’t open with 4 OOC games. I think the OP read the schedule wrong.
I read the 2025 schedule on the only website I could find that projects it. The schedule isn't official yet. But my account of the home and away games, as far as that goes, seems to be accurate as far as I can tell.

This is the schedule I’m looking at. The first time I looked, I thought it was 4 OOC games as well, till I paid attention to the dates.

Mostly, I agree. But coaches cannot force players to focus, be dedicated, and work hard. All coaches can do is talk with the player's hs coach and family, then make an educated guess about the player's character and values.

So, again, google Quinton Bohanna's comment on this matter. I can't speak for anyone else here, but I sure do think Bohanna knows what he is talking about. When you read what he has to say about this, he might persuade you a little.

Wonder who former players blame when the HC looks disinterested and has allowed a culture of being undisciplined show up consistently the last 3 seasons. A culture that has been called out by experienced players in Johnson and Maclin this past season.

Of course, chasing tail and drinking bourbon at Jeff Ruby’s is exciting for a middle aged divorced man

They credited stoops and blamed NIL more. There’s no incentive for high NIL guys to lead, etc. Also , with lack of continuity (offense ) you constantly have a new coordinator, many times new position coach…they show up, introduce themselves and have a season ..then leave with no offseason. You can’t spot ‘bad apples’ and players not maturing correctly that way . Can’t even gauge work ethic. This yr , Bush and others see the progression versus last yr , etc

It's good to have you back. Take care and enjoy rehab, it really helped me, even though I had to go through rehab 3 times to get back on my feet. I'm looking forward to many more of your post. By the way how many by passes did you have? I can't have any more, I've had 6.

I know we haven't always agreed on here, but I see this as not real world. I hated reading you were having to deal with some health issues, which is real world to me. I hope you are in the process of getting back to 100%.

Guess it was first part of last week, Rowland and Jones both viewed an autopsy and gave a "Where do we go from here?" assessment on UK football. Both seemed to have a pretty low key take on Stoops rebuilding plan and actually seemed to have little faith in what's on the horizon. For instance, Rowland seems to think UK's OL prospects are not good while Jones complained Stoops coaching staff was below par. I don't know about either of those concerns, I'm not knowledgeable enough to judge. Guess we'll find out soon enough.

That is what bothers me already, we have recruits coming in next year and they are already being reported as not very good.

I'm actually not really bothered by any of the transfers so far. Our WRs suck. I know the O-line was terrible but you cannot get me to believe that if the WRs were open on a quick slant the QBs couldn't hit them. They never seemed to get open. Maybe that's on the OC, idk, but they underperformed badly. Dropping the ball is definitely not on the OC. Brown has the worst butterfingers.

Plus Maclin came back when Key left. I think that's a win.

Silver never lived up to the hype.

I don't know what is going on behind the scenes but I don't have confidence in Stoops to fix his problems. This whole thing has happened before. Remember the comments by CRod about vampires in the locker room? Well here we are years later and it is still an issue.

Transfers that bother me

- Fearby
- Kamari Anderson
-Maybe Noah Matthew
- I liked Dane…he had one bad penalty but seemed to play hard…great hands but if he’s an ass in locker room…so be it

Transfer I am not worried much
- Barion
- Brock if he goes
- Ford…never played
- Anthony brown Stephen’s….never could catch
- Dingle….terrible blocking and so so hands
- Silver….he played a lot and never made plays

But the problem for me is losing Djack, Dumas Johnson, Max , Deonne…took plays off but he made plays, Rybka, …and losing Marquis Davis from this class…he was going to be in the running to play snaps

I personally can’t see how this staff gets to 7 wins next year unless we can literally buy a roster (which we can’t) and you still have a bad staff on offense

They can't.

Those guys you listed are legit concerns. I have no idea what the hell was going on in the locker room but it looks like an old vs new kinda thing. if getting rid of them helps then I am all for it.

The only real hope I hold out for is that the players waiting on the bench turn out to be better than we know. Otherwise it's going to be a long season next year.

The sad truth is I don't really care at this point. We are stuck with Stoops thanks to a bone head contract and there isn't anything to be done but watch the dumpster fire burn.

You didn’t miss anything.

But yeah I’d hesitate listening to biased former players. We’ve seen this stoops entire tenure. He just had enough easy games and down programs to have respectable seasons. Our ten win season was set up like indianas this year and he still managed to lose a game that we shouldn’t have and needed some luck to beat the might moccasins of Tennessee Chattanooga.

The man is not a head coach. But our moron AD basically gave him a lifetime deal. Mb should be fired and his replacement should fire stoops.

Who’s been the one common denominator in all the OC turnover?

How is that not ALL on Stoops? He is the Head coach. He set's the culture, and the culture sucks.
100% on Stoops underperforming for the money he is being paid.

NIL and instant transfers is going to be very tricky to navigate and require some real intelligence to figure out. Stoops is a lot of things but he's never struck me as a real smart guy. Knows a lot about football I'm sure but not much about dealing with or managing people. I don't have any hopes at all that he will be successful in the new era of college football.

I think it's a bit of a reach to blame anything on NIL; the teams that beat the crap out of us have it too.

We are looking at 4-8 or worse next season, will another bad year be enough to get rid of Stoops? I hope it is but I’m not sure.
