So sick of fans dwelling on the past

I don't disagree with anything you wrote, though I would add it doesn't challenge anything I wrote either. We have arguably the lowest floor of all the state schools in the SEC due to the systemic issues I mentioned. Stoops has managed to overcome them and take us to a level UK has not seen since since Bear left, but the low floor limitations means that they have to work 50% harder/smarter than the staffs at the elite schools, just to reach parity. I worry about what happens when Stoops and Marrow leave.

Also, your comment about UK having 7th biggest budget highlights my comment about basketball competing with football for dollars. We are the only school that has a basketball recruiting budget that meets or exceeds the football recruiting budget and that is after tripling the football budget over the last 10 years. Mitch allows the basketball team to spend as much/more than the football team when they typically only recruit about 5 players vs 25+ for football. Unti we fund the bell cow like the rest of the conference, we are going to be stuck looking up from below.
It’s utterly ridiculous that we spend more on bball recruiting than football.

Change my mind

Instead of "ridiculous", I would just say this practice is a relic of the past. But keep in mind many UK fans still want basketball to get most of the money. Let's remember it hasn't been very long since Cal took to the media to declare UK a "basketball school" because he wanted a brand new facility, then met public resistance from Barnhart, Stoops, and a good segment of our fan base. That sequence of events said something. Things are changing. UK's football budget grows every year, and football is the financial bell cow.

Overall, Stoops has had the best and most over UK talent during his tenure than all of the rest put together back to the Bear

Than "all of the rest put together"? Well, IDK about that. Fran Curci had a tremendous amount of talent including Sonny Collins, Steve Campassi, Mike Fanuzzi, Warren Bryant, Art Still, Derrick Ramsey, Jim Kovach, Kelly Kirchbaum, and Dallas Owens. Jerry Claiborne had Bill Ransdell, George Adams, Mark Higgs, Marc Logan, John Grimsley, Cam Jacobs, Maurice Douglass, Jerry Reece, Oliver Barnett, and Dermotti Dawson. Bill Curry had Moe Williams, Todd Perry, and Tim Couch. Hal Mumme had Craig Yeast, Jimmy Whelan, Dennis Johnson and Jared Lorenzen. Rich Brooks had Randall Cobb, Andre Woodson, Jacob Tamme, Keenan Burton, Stevie Johnson, Rafael Little, Wesley Woodyard, Danny Trevathan, Trevard Lindley, Jeremy Jarmon, Myron Pryor, and Corey Peters. That's a hell of a lot of premium football talent, and almost all of these guys played in the NFL. Dawson was one of the best who ever played the game, and Couch was a #1 overall NFL draft choice.

Viewed in that perspective, what do you know? Maybe Mark Stoops actually has done pretty well coaching up his players.

Matt Jones says we need to temper our expectations because of our past. He’s the worst. How can UL turn things around in 1 year? Why do big programs go through multiple coaches to find the right guy sometimes? There’s only a select few great coaches out there and it can be hit or miss. We’ve had exactly 1 great coach in our history so maybe we’re too content with mediocre coaching. There’s better out there but we handicap ourselves by having low expectations.

Sorry, had to revive this post because it seems every defender of Stoops has to bring up the 50’s and 60’s to probe we can’t possibly be a good program in modern times. It is so frustrating to read this crap!

"The attitude that we should expect to be a top notch program simply because of our recent success drives me crazy. The attitude that we can't ever be a top notch program simply because of our recent losses to well established programs drives me crazy. The attitude that we should expect to be a top notch program when we have next to no recruiting base, little history, insubstantial NIL, and a lower FB recruiting budget drives me crazy.
What a loser mentality.

I’m not saying we can ever be Georgia or Alabama, (who also have lost more than a few games they could or should have won over the past 10 years, and account for 2 of our losses this year) but just because our history isn’t great, our budget is lower, our recruiting base is much smaller, and we are the northernmost program in the most competitive conference doesn’t mean with our other resources (coach pay, facilities, fan support, etc.) we can’t expect better than what we are. And I’m not advocating for firing Stoops, even if it IS constant ragging on the staff, the team, or the AD, but goodness, stop with the lectures of the 2 win season already, BECAUSE I'm tired of hearing rational arguments.

Stoops has done a very good job but needs to get better. Fix the issues that have been issues in all but 2 or 3 seasons of our program for the last 11 years or stand aside and let somebody else give it a go. Tired of seeing the same mistakes play out during small portions of 2 out of 3 years."

Fify

Rant rant and agressive rant for weeks on end and every year, even when we win 10 games. Then the passive aggressive solution that says IT ALL- let somebody else give it a go...

Fkn hilarious!

Get out of the way and let the line of top notch coaches outside of the facilities get their chance! Lmao. Give up the recruiting inroads in Ohio, MI, FL, SC, TN, ETC! Let's roll the dice and start from scratch with a new face and scheme.

I'm sure that "letting someone else give it a go" is a winning scenario. Who wouldn't want to play for "someone giving it a shot"? Sounds great

The past plays a huge role in what people think and their outlook(5 wins since 81). UK is not top 3 in the east, they are middle of the pack 4 or worse. Take out the cupcakes and UK doesn't make bowls any years, they are not now and not in the near future going to be a east contender.

Take out the cupcakes and no one from the SEC makes the NC... Everybody schedules them for a reason.

UK has absolutely been top 3 in the east some seasons. To deny it is to completely discount anything you say. Teams have ups and downs. It's college football.

You must be new to this board and Kentucky football fandom. Expecting more than terrible play will get you banned from this board. If you’re upset about getting blown out by Missouri you’ll immediately be reminded about the worst coach in UK football history 12 years ago and how we should be happy with mediocre play because no one else could ever hope to win 6 games here 😂
