So I don't understand the Miller hire for IU??? Is he an interim coach for a few months until Donovan or Brad Stevens takes the job??? I mean what happened??????? All the IU fans swore they'd get a big name coach and were flaunting their stuff all over our board a few weeks ago

LOL..... Archie Miller is a good coach but damn.... let's all take a minute to laugh at IU for not being the level they thought they were.... #humbled

PS. It would be funny as hell if just when Miller gets successfull at IU..... one of the blue bloods takes him away hahaha

That was a couple weeks of sheer comedy!!!
Something less than funny.... I have heard more than once that Donovan is the presumed take-over at UL.
I still find it hard to believe he leaves the NBA… But I've heard this now from a couple people who are pretty solid.
We'll see.

Hope to hell this isn't true. Cal won't be here forever. I don't like the thought of Cal leaving and Donovan being at UofL. Gives me the shakes...

No sane IU fan thought Stevens was leaving the Celtics. Donovan wanted to be the highest paid coach and IU didn't go for that. In the long run I think Archie is the better choice anyways.

Miller is just keeping the seat warm until the NY Knicks cut ties with Phil Jackson. Phil will take over and bring in the triangle offense. [banana]

the sad thing about Archie taking the job is that if he has just the success of his brother .... meaning no final fours.... IU will fire him because they are crazy and think final fours are their birth right

Archie more than likely will be incredibly successful at IU. Restore them to blue blood status and give us fits in the future. It's a shame timing was not right for him to come to U.K.

I'm a little torn on this. Clearly, I hate IU and want them to fail miserably. However, I like Archie and have heard from a lot of people that he is a very good guy and nice person. I don't really want him to fail.

I think Archie will prove a strong decision.
But the weeks leading to the hire showed a hysterical level of self-importance within the IU fanbase... who were convinced they would land Donovan and pay him 8mil.
It was stupidity.

I think it would be hilarious if we take Archie from IU in 6-7 years after Cal is ready to shut it down. Now that would surely piss those Hoosiers off

Archie Miller's a damn good coach. Not sure why we're mocking a good hire.
yeah that's kind of my thought
he did a lot at Dayton - and now he'll be on a bigger state. He's also young, energetic and seems like a good guy. Nothing creepy about him, either.
If he can recruit at all - and keep some of that Indiana talent instate - he'll do very well

The Donovan talks were very real. However, IU got tired of being jerked around, didn't think he was worth the reported $9M he wanted, and really, really liked Archie Miller.

Good hire.... IU thought they were on the level of a great hire or grand slam type hire.

Hiring the coach at Dayton is just gambling really.... there is no guarantee he can recruit at the high D1 level

...especially since IU can't and won't pay players the amount of money the other schools are doing. Only reason Crean failed Lmfao. [roll]

You can bet Donovan will wait until Cal is gone before moving in an hour down the road.

I believe they are mocking IU and their "Donovan is a done deal idiocy".

Total BS not one reputable source reported this. In fact the Indy Star and other reputable sources say BD had no contact and no interest.

Keep reading that one guy's blog who told all of you that BD was in Bloomington...

I'm an IU fan and I don't believe for a minute that Donovan was out of the question. First, why would IU have to pay him 8 mil? Second, no matter what happens, Donovan isn't long for OKC. He won't win there with no Durant. Hell, Westbrook will be gone in a few years. Donovan will be back coaching college ball soon enough, watch.

I'd say the timing was poor (with the NBA playoffs looming) but Donovan isn't long for the NBA.

You didn't land him.
He wasn't in Bloomington.
You weren't paying $6-9mil to land a coach.

All of this dumb conjecture was running rampant. It was hysterical.

Why couldn't IU pay 6 million for a coach like Donovan? Answer: Sure they could.

The rest is accurate. IU didn't land him and he wasn't in Bloomington.

That's not to say Donovan would never have any interest in IU.

Bad timing IMHO, but Donovan will be back coaching college ball in the near future.

Zero doubt.

Whether they could pay $6mil or not is immaterial. They wouldn't. They didn't.

To quote Seinfeld... "The levels. Where are the levels? Show me the levels."

I suspect he will be the next UL coach.

We don't know if Donovan was ever even contacted.

But to say IU "wouldn't" pay Donovan that kind of coin?

We simply don't know if that's true.

I said on your message boards that IU will not pay its coach $6-$8mil.... numbers beIng freely tossed around by posters.

I was correct.

You can speculate all you want as to whether they "would have".

They didn't.

Brad Stevens never ever wanted a college gig. NEVER. Why does anyone on this site keep bringing it up. He always wanted to go to the pros and is killing it. He has proved he could be a great pro coach, he isn't coming back to college. Just stop it. Almost question anyone's intelligence on thinking he wants to come back to college.

Again, we don't know if they even reached out to Donovan so it's all speculation.

I love the Archie Miller hire but obviously they aren't going to pay him 6 million or more.

So, we'll never really know if IU would pay a head coach 6 million +.

I'm not sure what part of this is getting lost on you.

Your board was wildly speculating that IU was going to pay $6-$8mil for its next coach, and that it would be Donovan --- who was in Bloomington.

I refuted all of that.

I was correct.

That may be a valid criticism on any message board in America, except this one. Seriously, do you think the same hypothetical results would have been tolerated here?

And that's the same thing people said about Crean and he already had a final four to his name.

Again, here? Crean's only FF was a few years before he even became the coach at IU. Didn't you guys chase away a coach who won a NC for your team?

Oh, nothing's lost on me.

Nobody guaranteed it would be Donovan.

Everybody HOPED it would be Donovan.

I'd say 99.9% knew he was beyond a long shot, mainly due to timing.

You have no idea if Donovan was offered and if he was, WHAT he was offered.

Neither do I.
