With Diallo gong to KU and Brown a long shot? Murray's a guard if we pull him in and I hope we can.

PG - Ullis
PG2 - Briscoe/Hawkins
SG - Mathews/Mulder
PF - Poy/Lee/Willis
C - Skal/Lee

You're stretching when you list one of the positions as "PG2" and not shooting guard, for the sake of removing the SF position lol.
Mulder weighs as much, and is 1 inch shorter than MKG was when he played for UK. Same for Mulder compared to James Young, except James weighed a few more pounds.

If you consider Mulder a guard at this moment, then yes. Depends on how the roster finishes. Also think Mr. Mathews may fight a bit more than most think to start. If he wasn't injured, he would be viewed differently. The fact Ulis and he are familiar bodes well him also. Ulis will take care of his guys.

I know of Matthews ability and what he was ranked before injury, but Mulder, right now, brings apparently better shooting and can match Matthews' athleticism. Will be terrific to watch the two of them go at it for PT.

I believe that's te roster you'll see with Willis picking up a few minutes at the 3 as well if there is foul trouble

Ulis, briscoe, matthews, poy, skal starting 5 is very solid. Mulder, lee, willis, Hawkins off bench is fairly solid too. If we could land Murray or Brown, that would be a very elite top 7 with several capable players in the event of foul trouble/smaller roles

As we stand now:

G Ulis
G Briscoe
G Mulder or Matthews
F Poythress
F Labissiere

6th Lee (starter minutes)

The 3 guard lineup allows Cal to keep Lee on the bench for depth inside.

Of course it depends on what Mulder and/or Matthews does. We might have to go big if neither one of those guys are ready to play big minutes.

we will add 1-2 more but for the sake of arguement if we didn't i think Ulis , Briscoe , Lee , Skal , Mulder , Matthews and Poythress all play a ton . those are the 7 we ride or die with . Willis and Hawkins play here and there . But i expect big things from Matthews by the end of the year.

I think we add Kirk and that's all. I think Murray ends up staying in 2016

Yes, unless we add Brown, we will go most of the time (say 25 of 40 minutes, so 60-65%) with a 3-guard lineup. Poy and Willis will see some time at the 3, but most of those minutes will go to Matthews & Mulder. If we don't add any more significant pieces, I estimate the minutes to so something like this:
Ulis 34
Poythress 32
Labissiere 30
Briscoe 28
Lee 26
Mulder 19
Matthews 14
Hawkins 9
Willis 8
There will be some games where Willis, Hawkins or maybe even Matthews don't play much, and others where they play a lot.

I would be euphoric about adding Kirk. If Murray reclasses and we add both Kirk and Murray, we've got ourselves a helluva team.

What? Why is what I said a stretch? Ullis will play PG. So will Briscoe. They will be in the game at the same time more often than not.

From everything I've seen and read it doesn't appear Matthews and Mulder are the same type of players as Young and MKG. They're definitely SG's, not SF's. Besides, I think you're off on some of those comparative measurables. An inch or two and 10-15 lbs can make a world of difference.

Because you made a brand new position so we couldn't call one of them a small forward lol
MKG weighed the same, and was one inch taller than Mulder. Saying "Nope, Mulder is 6'5, not 6'6, he can't be a small forward" is just incredibly nitpicky lol.

I didn't "make a brand new position." Good grief. Everyone else in this thread caught the drift. Two interchangable ball handlers. Remember Wall and Bledsoe? Not saying these guys are as good, but similar situation.

Ah, I hear what I wanna hear. No, I get what you mean, but I like being a d-bag for kicks. Really though, there are no distinctions that separate him from a SF. Same size as MKG essentially, and he was listed as a SF. James Young was listed as one as well, except for when he played the 2.
Vincennes has him listed as a small forward/shooting guard, so there that is lol.

How am I supposed to keep arguing with you when you put it that way? lol.
Well, I'll give it a try. "Essentially the same size" isn't the same size and a little bit matters, especially at that position - more so on defense for rebounding.

But height isn't the only issue. MKG and Young were slashers while MM and CM are three point specialist. Could MKG and Young hits some 3's? Of course. Will MM and CM get to the rack? I sure hope so. But, these players aren't great comparisons to each other. We're likely to be 3 guards most minutes of most games next season if we don't add Brown.

If we somehow sign Murray I might expect to see some 4 guard line-ups with Mulder and Murray as shooters and Ulis and Briscoe running things. Especially when Poy needs a blow/has foul trouble.

Both incorrect. Matthews is a slashing specialist with a decent 3 point game. Mulder is a 3 point specialist with a very nice, and often used slashing game. Check out their clips, they fit the SF role well.
