Skang’s got to go

Stoops won’t fire the guy. I really don’t know what to think. We have squandered the first top 10 qb draft pick since couch. It’s gotta be the line I guess. I know they suck but apparently i underestimated how bad they are. We have rod and we don’t even attempt play action. I’m baffled. I’m just bummed and pissed.

Why do we always fall back to this lazy and incrorrect statement?

1. Was the offense the same last year? I don't remember many complaints last year.
2. Stoops under Neal Brown and Shannon Dawson...granted we had major talent issues we were digging out of....we were not that good at establishing the LOS for run game. It was Boom hits' some big plays, JoJo had like 1 game he dominated. Then Eddie Gran came and we established a very good run game but the passing game never materialized.

Stoops isn't an offensive good head coach. He relies heavily on OC. Scang is an epic failure and bad decision. Stoops has to fire offensive staff and needs to hit another Coen homerun. We need to pay all the money it takes to buy a good OC.
I feel bad for grann. I really do think he is a great offensive mind. He used a hammer and duct tape and got us 8 wins and didn’t even use the forward pass. He just never had the tools to run his stuff and it wasn’t his fault. If stoops announced grann as the oc going forward I wouldn’t be mad.

That's different. I believe an innovative offensive coach at UK could get them there. Not talking about them being there every year.

Stoops showed you can make UK competitive. It's not impossible. Right guy who can scheme and recruit could go further.

We had a guy like that. Hal Mumme.

Here is the deal...could there be someone, yeah, there could. The chances of UK finding that guy and the chances that guy is as good at what Stoops is good at plus better than Stoops at what he is good at is slim to none. In order for everything to line up that is how it would have to be. Stoops has defeciencies and most coaches do. Saban had a 62% win percentage before he got to LSU. I'm not suggesting Stoops could be as good as Saban, but where you are matters, it always has and always will.

Stoops showed he could make UK competitive because he is good at what he does. It didn't come out of nowhere.

He may need to adjust to take the next step. I'm not ready to send him packing, JMHO.

Nearly everytime you fire a HC it sets your program back a couple of years. Almost always, there are rare exceptions.

We should fire everyone because the offensive line is awful 😉
That is a big part of the job and we’ve never had this big of an issue save early yewrs under Stoops So why give a pass to them now?
Besides today Will had plenty time to throw as Vansy has not talent and we threw for 100 yards. That is insane bad

You don't fire the head coach of the program because the OLine is bad. Will has not had plenty of time to throw. Has he held the ball too long, yeah some. Last year he would have run with it. He's been sacked 40+ times...most of that isn't on Will.

To me the poor play of the QB is a big part of our demise. Yeah, the OL can't open up holes like they used to and they don't pass block like they use to but think about every game all the open receivers Levis can't find, he does no running or scrambling, takes sacks he doesn't have to and he throws interceptions like no big deal.

Vacuum of leadership has to start at the top .. as far as OC goes , you can fire this guy and hire another , and another , and another , until Mark Stoops this is the offense you are going to get . Going it out , ball control, short passes , and next to ZERO vertical shots down the field deep , or even 18-25 yard stuff. He wants to grind it out . And more offensive minded teams are passing us by, Hes tuck in the 80's offensively speaking . Its never going to changer even if we change OC's .

Who’s fault is that? They can’t even block stunts and twists!!!! That’s gotta be coaching. Even vs teams we have much more talent then they STILL struggle

So you think Mark Stoops should be fired because the offensive line is poor this year?

I think yesterday was maybe the OLs best game of the season. First half vandy loaded up on the run but they gave Levis more than enough time to throw the ball. Levis played pretty well too and I don't know if he even hit the ground in pass pro.

Second half they ran the ball very well despite vandy daring us to throw. Levis reverted and played awful. Still we moved the ball and gave crod a nice hole for the go ahead run.

Yesterday was way more on the defense than the OL.

I don’t think it matters. Stoops will have to significantly change his mindset regarding offense. If he wont, UK is at its peak. Decent seasons with an occasional strong year. That is not going to fill the NIL bucket though.
We’ve been saying that for 10 years, he’s not going to change. He needs to hire a great OC and keep his nose out of the offense.

Stoops still thinks the way to win a game is 3-0.

Stoops wanting to snap it late in the play clock and grind out long drives is helping kill the offense. Coen came in and helped improve it, but Scang just doesn't have the feel to move the football in Stoops mule ball offense. The good receivers we got was because Coen gave them hope that Stoops was going to have a decent offense. Now we are back to the other 9 years with Scang where we try to hopefully squeeze out a win at the end.

I disagree the defense wasn’t great but scoring that few points vs Vandy to me is unacceptable. Also the offense has been a issue all Season. The defense has been good for the most part

10 years my man. Stoops is who he is. Grind it out on both sides of the ball. He's not comfortable playing offense that takes risks. Not happening.

We already know how he wants to play. Either they need to recruit better or play a different style.

I think it's negative and defeatist to think there's nobody better. Being scared of change doesn't lead to improvement. It leads to mediocrity.

We moved the ball fine. Couldn't punch it in. Yes that's unacceptable but when the run game started clicking, the defense couldn't get the ball back. Special teams had another blocked kick (this time at least only one).

The QB completed two passes all second half. Two! One of those was under 40 seconds bizarre checkdown that he barely threw all year. In crunch time the ol and RB delivered. QB floundered.

You like to say defeatist. How about realist?
What was UK football before Mark Stoops? This isn't basketball man. I'd say you could say this about UK MBB, but not football, no shot.

Realist? Ok then. You're the realist and I'm the dreamer. Let's hold onto the guy with both hands that can't beat Vandy.

We already know he wont address ST issues. We already know he won't play a freed up offense. So what is gonna change from him to get to the next step?

You're saying it's better to stay as things are. Nobody out there that can do better. So we should not expect or try for better?

Stoops is paid to just maintain 7-9 wins. On a good year, maybe 10. If he wins another game this year he goes up to I believe 7 mil a year. Should we not expect better for that kind of money?

If not, then the fans are being sold a bill of goods.

I don’t think we should fire the head coach…but OC and Oline Coach…have zero reason to keep them

Let’s revisit Scangerello resume
- 2021 49er Qb coach - Garapello was 20th in Qb
- 2020 sr offense assistant Philadelphia - finished 20th in total offense offense
- 2019 Bronco offense coordinator -finished 28th in total offense

So he’s been in NFL a ton but it’s always been with bad units. It just appears he was hired due to Nfl snd Coen gave a recommendation

Just a bad hire Just move On to the next guy

Cawood, all I am saying is I'm 42 years old. In my life we've had a winning season 14 times...hopefully 15 after this year, in 42 years.

Stoops has 5 of those and maybe 6 after this year.

We've finished the season with a .600 winning percentage 6 times. Stoops has 3 of them.

We've finished the season with a .750 winning percentage 3 times. Stoops has 2 of them.

I don't even know off the top of my head the Florida wins, Tennessee wins, etc. Can't recall the length of the streaks, etc. It was bad.

History indicates ditching the guy who built the program up from total rubble who mostly has a track record of exceeding the programs historical markers would be a very bad decision.

Am I disappointed? Do I want to dream big? Yeah. Would I toss away what we know Stoops can do to take a flyer on someone else right now? No.

I'm with ya. Sorry, mixing up those that want Stoops gone vs others. The staff, make whatever changes are needed and don't mess it up this time. Very concerned about next year tbh.

Bad news for some people in this thread:
Even if Stoops was considering a change, he wouldn't announce it to the world before the season ends. I think he's type of HC who is going to give a guy a full season before he cans him. Just one of those things most old school guys believe. That wouldn't stop Stoops from considering his options ...quietly.

Good points and I agree to a great extent. I'm not advocating firing him. Not at all.

Stoops has done things at UK that most, me included, didn't think we'd ever see. I'm 55.

I do think he is unwilling to be a open offense. Just isn't who he is. So, unless he starts recruiting at higher levels, his way simply will not work with the talent he is getting.

He has to unclench and play like Heupel. Or something similar. Go all in on getting a top level QB. Seriously get an OC and let him have the reins, otherwise the next step is not gonna happen.
