Can Skal if the season starts tomorrow would he be eligible?

It seems that the subject has disappeared a but the last few weeks. Im totally excited about this kid playing this year, but with the NCAA Im always fearful of another Kanter situtation.

I heard Cal say awhile back he would be good to go but that was some time ago.

Anyone heard anything lately about him?

He has not been cleared by the NCAA.

It's not at all like the Kanter situation in any way shape or form. Could they decide to screw us over like they did with Kanter? I guess they could find a way if they really wanted to. The thing with Kanter though, was that they found the disqualifying information and decided to show zero leniency. The NCAA goes by the book when it suits their agenda, and they show leniency when it suits their agenda. That was what I took from the Kanter situation, yes technically he should've been ruled ineligible, but if you really looked at it objectively, Enes himself did absolutely nothing wrong and if he had gone just about anywhere else, I think he would have been allowed to play. I can't say that for sure, but it just seemed like an awful lot of sour grapes from Emmert. We stole Washington's entire frontcourt that year.

Like say, I don't know, Washington?

Very simple answer: without him we have no shot.

KWilt I swear I don't call people out, but you in particular seem to be a poster that poses as a UK fan. I just don't know how an actual fan could be that pessimistic. Look, losing Lab to injury or ineligibility would be a huge blow, but tell me, when has this program been about one guy? No shot? Seriously man, know that these aren't baseless accusations. You have some explaining to do.

Sorry I'm not understanding that response, can you clarify? I mentioned Washington specifically in that post, which is why I ask.

Kanter was committed to UW. The president of the NCAA happened to be the president of UW. No talk of Kanter not playing was brought up until you guessed it, he decommitted from UW and committed to UK.

I was called a UFO propagandist on this board today for far less.

We were talking the same thing. I just worded mine different. My bad.

I remember the very first day Kanter was mentioned on this board, after he expressed interest in UK but before he committed. I was thinking "I've never heard of this guy" but it was like as soon as he decommitted from Washington and mentioned us, we blew his name up. It was a wild ride from there and it derailed off the track after throwing us for quite a few loops. It was crazy too because there was almost unanimous optimism that he would play, because he deserved to, he was a great kid and we all wanted to see him. There was almost an unspoken undertone that we would get screwed over though, and the longer it was drawn out the more nagging it became. We didn't want to believe the NCAA would do that to him, we wouldn't rip the bandage off quickly, we all wanted to believe logic would prevail, so it hurt like a bitch when the decision came down.

I think we only need 3 more threads like this before the season starts to hit the Over.

The answer is we won't know for about 6 weeks. But the general assumption is yes.
Im sorry,,,,,,,,,,,,,do you see a thread on this page about the subject? Stay off the thread would be my advice to you if you dont want to add anything. And obviously you know little.

I know it seemed terse and dickish CalsArmy, but this dead horse has been beaten, buried, dug up, beaten again, cremated, and its ashes spread out to sea. The question has been asked in every way and it WILL be asked again. The answer will remain the same. I don't have a problem with this thread, I think I helped it out by starting some semi related discussion. There have been way worse threads, probably even today.

The guy who wrote the OP is telling me I know little?

I'm gonna need some ice for that burn.

So what happened? If you don't mind me asking.

Ah....we've got very vocal few that believe UK is treated fairly across the board and there's no Espn/NCAA bias in favor of Duke and UNC/Northeast programs.

As hard as it is to imagine a UK fan not understanding the bias, they exist.

Labissiere's case and Kanter's case are unrelated. I belong to the school of thought that believes Kanter was treated unfairly by the NCAA. Kanter committed and then de-committed from Washington, and many believe that the influential President of UW worked inside the NCAA to blackball Kanter. They may be right. But let's not elevate that to a wider conspiracy theory. Even if 1 believes Kanter was screwed, that was almost 5 years ago. On August 1, multiple media sources quoted John Calipari saying he is confident Labissiere will be cleared to play by the NCAA. Calipari wouldn't publicly address this without a good reason. He was silent throughout Kanter's investigation. Labissiere transferred a year ago and was declared ineligible to play his senior season of high school basketball in Memphis. That's why he is being investigated, and it doesn't sound fishy to me. A Forbes article from last November anonymously quotes coaches from other schools speculating that Labissiere won't be eligible, but that was right around the time he signed with Kentucky and it was obviously sour grapes. Might have been Josh covering his butt. Calipari believes Labissiere will be cleared. So I also believe it will work out alright, just as Eric Bledsoe and Nerlens Noel were cleared before by the NCAA.

Yeah we got screwed that year and everybody was saying free Enes, but I think he was the reason Harrellson got so much better because he was practicing everyday with him, it turned out good anyways despite the NCAA's lame arse decision:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

No. He won't be eligible.

Seriously, he'll be fine IMO and Cal's opinion. No one here knows for certain, but if something fishy went on with Skal then something would have popped up by now. He's been committed for over 9 months. We have a lot of people out there wanting to take us down and nothing has surfaced.

How about when Noal went down. Homer or not you gotta face that UK won't be very good without Skal. Take the glasses off and realize just how good Skal is. Without Skal there is zero and I mean zero inside presence on this team next year. Nit sounds about right with any key injuries to skal or murray.

How about you just go on over to the U of L boards or UNC boards and join them then if UK is going to be so terrible if he can't play. I know UK has the largest fan base and with that comes band wagon fans and band wagon fans come with all sports teams.
UK is a top 15 team without Skal. Poythress and Lee are great players that most teams would love to have in their front courts. Also a team of Murray, Ulis, Briscoe, Mulder, Mathews, Lee, Poythress, and Humphries is a tournament team.
How about when Noel went down. Yeah he went down and I can assure you that this UK team without Skal would blow out the 2012-2013 team with Noel.

Yes, he would be eligible. I'm not sure how many more times this has to be explained on this board.

True. And to add to that point, when Kanter was declared ineligible, Harrelson and Jones stepped up and Kentucky made it to the FF without a true center. I'm sure most of us agree that the upside of this team is higher with Labissiere, who is projected as a high lottery pick. Without Labissiere, Calipari would not have the length and athleticism in the middle to play the style of man to man defense he prefers. But I wouldn't write off the season or assume Calipari couldn't pull off a repeat of 2010-11. Anyway, Labissiere will be eligible so this is just hypothetical Sunday afternoon chit chat.

Why the hell wouldn't he be? He didn't do anything wrong. He didn't get no money or even ask for any. Hell the kid ain't done a damn thing. He ain't gonna be in trouble just because his handler is retarded

Like Cliff Alexander at KU? Dude personally did nothing wrong except have a woefully low BBIQ and under perform. It was his momma that effed up his future. He didn't know.

He could have been pretty good after another year or two.

By the way, in light of the UNC thing, Uk and Kanter got a first class screw job.

Maybe Alexander knew, maybe he didn't. His camp has nothing to gain by saying that he knew.

As for Skal, his case is even more extreme because you have a refugee who maybe had a handler trying to cash in. So if the handler cashes in, do you blame the poor kid from Haiti? Colossally stupid, if so.

Cal said recently he's confident Skal would be eligible. Why would he say that if it still wasn't in question? Seems like he would have just said he has been cleared. If the season begins with this still a question I don't think Cal can play him. To do so would be to risk at least perhaps having to forfeit those games if he's ruled ineligible, and maybe more. UK is not UNC.
